Hi!

Hi Ansell, thankyou for your welcome message. The links on the template were helpful and I have enjoyed making edits. Also thanks for your invite to join the Adventist WikiProject, which I have done. Cheers, Colin MacLaurin 10:00, 3 August 2006 (UTC).

Napoleon Dynamite the liar

I don't think it's a stretch or in any way to controversial to call the character Napoleon Dynamite a compuslive liar. Here's one of many reviews of the film that describe the character using the term.[1]. I reverted your revert of my edit, but I am certainly willing to discuss the issue further with you.--The Fat Man Who Never Came Back 11:20, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia requires verification. I thought it was a strange addition as I have never thought of the character in that way, but if it has a reliable source for the term then I am happy to have it there. Cheers, Ansell 11:23, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

August Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

Signature

Your entire signature appears to link to your Esperanza subpage. Is that intentional? The text of that page suggests that you just meant to link the "e". Zetawoof(ζ) 02:05, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

It is intentional to redirect the whole signature there. I will change the text of the page as it is outdated. I do it this way to minimize the signatures wiki-code length. Is it an inconvienience going through that page? Ansell 07:09, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

RfA?

Hi Ansell. Have you ever thought of this? User:Blnguyen/RfA. Regards, Blnguyen | rant-line 07:25, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

I have, but I am in the middle of writing a 60+ page Honours Thesis... I may not be around for as long as I would like! The next 8 weeks for me are going to be so hectic without me wanting to do admin duties here. Ansell 07:30, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

David Tench's identity

Hi. I deliberately kept the text of the performer's name out of the visible text; it wasn't a mixtake on my part. Is this proper, or do you think the current version is better? - Richardcavell 00:21, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

My reasons come from the idea that Wikipedia should be able to be read as a textual document without having to follow Easter egg links, although the Piped link document I refer to is not a policy, and still in the proposed stages. I am not an expert on what is generally thought about spoilers but I think that the general tag is enough to divert criticism while still having content on pages. Ansell 00:29, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

"Wikipedia is not Dumping ground for Random Information"

My edit summary was based on a misreading; I stand by the revert, though. The point (that Wikipedia has minimal notability standards) stands, though.

I would be open to other suggestions for wording and linkage, though. Thanks, Luc "Somethingorother" French 01:36, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

C'mon, man. Did you even read the article? The alleged "Lord" is the child of Anastasia Romanov (see link). His uncle VanLoone produces zero Ghits, and his uncle's ship the HMS Puma was scrapped in 1976. The article is a mishmash of Horatio Nelson and Aberdeen. This isn't just a hoax, this is patent nonsense. VoiceOfReason 04:41, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Churchie

Thanks for your comments. The page now has sources at the bottom. --Kiran90 10:18, 28 August 2006 (UTC) (PS. Stop saying G'Day!! hehehe)

Thats cool... and BTW... I will say Gday as much as I want! I'm a proud aussie, and from the looks of it you are aussie too... Ansell 10:27, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Wait, sorry, i think i got a bit of info mixed up. I'll verify it and put it back in. And yeh, fair enough about the g;day thing, i just never say it :S and yes, i am aussie. Brissie Aussie. --Kiran90 10:29, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

As you can probably see from my user page I am from brisbane too. Im a student at QUT Gardens Point to be precise. Thanks for correcting the info though, Churchies claims are a bit different to the other two. Ansell 10:33, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

K, its all done, but im a bit iffy about how to reference them. Can you give me a few pointers? --Kiran90 10:42, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

I rewrote and referenced the claims using the source that was given. I think you may have put the same text down that you took off by mistake. The text that was there seemed to be related to the other two related pages if I read it correctly, and I could not find the quote on the source you put down.
In regards to referencing, try reading through the citing sources guide. You may also be interested in the {{cite web}} and {{cite news}} templates for use in practically putting references into articles. Ansell 10:55, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Darrell Hair edit conflict

No worries. I'd guess you opened just after I'd made the edit - these things happen sometimes! JPD (talk) 11:49, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Steve Irwin

That article is so crazy right now that it's confusing even for admins like me. Since his death, that article has seen 600 edits. "Insane" is a mild term for it. And as dawn hits in the US, it's going to get worse. --Woohookitty(meow) 11:48, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

And all when as an australian I am going to sleep because I have to get up to work tommorrow. Have to leave the job to our American friends soon. Ansell 11:50, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
Yep. And I hope it calms down so we can weed out the references. 25! Come on. :) --Woohookitty(meow) 11:51, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
I saw the same thing happen to Graham Poll when he made some bad calls during the World Cup, well, not to this degree, but the percentage of vandalism edits was higher I think. The references just blew up... Ansell 11:54, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Edit: Stingray

Hi, in response to the message that you sent me about my editing of the article on "Stingray", I was merely removing uncouth sentences like "The number of Steve Irwins has tripled" and "I suck mt bum" which was added by a troublemaker. This was not an experiment, and I hope you could enlighten me on your comment, as I am unable to fathom whether yours was supposed to be positive or negative. Thank you.

Sorry, replied on your talk page. My bad. Ansell 02:17, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Steve Irwin

You keep beating me to reverts! ViridaeTalk 02:15, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

And all that and I managed to add two sources in the middle of it all. :) Ansell 02:17, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Sorry about losing your the comment in the shuffle! I was about to reinsert it, but you beat me to it. :-) —David Levy 05:10, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

It wasn't mine however I realise things happen and I didn't think at all that you missed it on purpose. Its just helping. I figure you opened the page for editing just before the comment was made as it was a recent one. Ansell 05:11, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
Someone vandalized the page by inserting backslashes in everyone's messages. This went unnoticed, so a bunch of comments were posted afterward. I took the pre-vandalism version and manually inserted all of the new text. Just as I was about to perform the reversion, someone asked why the backslashes were there. I had to reload the page and manually insert that comment. Then, just as I was about to try again, someone posted a reply. Once again, I had to reload the page and manually insert the comment. I overlooked the fact that another comment was added during the same minute, so it was missing from the version that I pasted in.
Thanks very much for fixing this! —David Levy 05:22, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
I brought the issue up at ANI so someone will no doubt look at the issue behind it. Ansell 05:24, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Steve Irwin revert

I reverted your edit because it did not happen on 6 September, and I felt the previous version of the article was sufficient. --Zimbabweed 06:44, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing out the date problem. Maybe you could extend on your reasons on the article talk page to get a few more views on it. Ansell 06:46, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Steve Irwin

Although I support the removal of unreferenced material - WP:LIVING doesn't apply... [2]. 09:06, 5 September 2006 (UTC) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Viridae (talkcontribs) .

Really. It fits perfectly with unsubstantiated criticism to me. Keep in mind that the onus of proof in that policy is explicitly on the person putting the material in. Ansell 11:59, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
Oops sign posts. My point was that he isn't living... ViridaeTalk 13:14, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
Doh!... I wonder if the policy could be extended to those with close living relatives, or those recently deceased. Ansell 00:36, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Irwin, Irvine ...

Doh! How is it possible to edit an article ten times, to have him all over the press, radio, and TV, and still get his name wrong? Ta for the edit. Mr Stephen 12:11, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Spelling citation

You commented on a user page with the wrong link, keeping regionalisms for regional pages is referenced here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#National_varieties_of_English not the generic wp:spelling page. Just for future reference (they probably moved it since last time, knowing how crappy the style and rule pages are set up). Zotel - the Stub Maker 13:07, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Oops... Must keep that in mind for the future. I hope the link I gave them helped them find the right information somehow. Ansell 00:34, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

JPD's RfA

Thanks, Ansell, for your support and comments at my RfA, which finished with a tally of 94/1/0. I hope I live up to the confidence you have shown in me in my activities as an administrator. JPD (talk) 16:04, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Anytime... Ansell 00:36, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
