Pardon my manners[edit]

Hi, Aoba47; I want to apologize for not getting to this, and thank you for checking in with me! I appreciate your concern; you are always so thoughtful. I am as well as someone my age can be ... growin' old ain't for sisses, and it's always something :) But after a series of unpleasant encounters, the Wikipedia muse has stubbornly refused to return; I find that something eventually jogs me out of semi-retirement, but meanwhile, I protect my sanity by pretty much ignoring my talk page. I hope you are well! Best regards, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 18:08, 27 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hello again! Thank you for the message. I hope that removing my message from your talk page was not too rude or forward. I just did not want to clutter your talk page as I am sure you are busy with other things. I am sorry to hear about your recent unpleasant encounters and it is always best to protect and preserve your mental health. I agree that it is sometimes best to take a step away from certain potential triggers. I wish you the best with your overall health. I'm only 30, but I'm already starting to feel old lol. I completely understand what you mean by the Wikipedia muse. I have a few ideas for potential projects, but it really comes down to whether or not I want to be the time and energy into them to make the a reality lol. I hope you are having a great week so far! Aoba47 (talk) 18:27, 27 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Removing your message did not cause me any concern; I think I have come to understand what drives your thoughtfulness :) If a great week is defined by the doctor saying no hearing loss, getting my flu shot, in line for my COVID booster, only attended one funeral, and found a great new groomer for my pooch ... life is grand :) Best regards, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 18:32, 27 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • That mostly sounds like a good week to me. I am glad that there is no hearing loss, and that reminds that I should look into getting my flu shot and doing the search on getting the COVID booster. I am sorry to hear about the funeral, but overall, there was more positive than negative, which is a great week in my book. I try my best to be thoughtful and considerate. I was definitely not good at that when I first start work on Wikipedia, and it is something I continually work at as I want to try and be as kind to others as possible. Aoba47 (talk) 18:40, 27 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    And that you are :) SandyGeorgia (Talk) 18:50, 27 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you. I greatly appreciate that :) Aoba47 (talk) 18:54, 27 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Leah Labelle FA[edit]

I know it's been a couple months since, but I just wanted to congratulate you for getting Leah Labelle to featured status! I'm happy to have helped get the article into the right direction. 웃OO 07:31, 17 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you! You helped a lot with the article, and I'm quite proud of my work on it, especially since it is my first biography article to become a featured article. Aoba47 (talk) 17:09, 17 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2021 Elections voter message[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 6 December 2021. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2021 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:43, 23 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No Panties[edit]

I wanted some clarification regarding the song. Just from the title alone I could infer that the song features a lot of "dirty" words in it. If Britney's "It's Britney, bitch" in "Scream and Shout" was censored, I can only imagine what happened to "No Panties". Clearly, there's both an explicit (the original) and censored / clean versions. What I'm curious about is this: why is it important to note that the European and UK releases contained the explicit version? Is Europe known for containing the censored versions of songs from the US? Or is this important because the American releases by Slip-n-Slide and Atlantic contained the clean version? Sorry if I'm being a bummer or anything, but it caught my attention and I'm not really an expert on the music industry and things like these. PanagiotisZois (talk) 17:21, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • @PanagiotisZois: There is no need to apologize. You are not being a bummer at all. Thank you for copy-editing the article. I honestly thought it would take a lot longer for someone to look through it so I greatly appreciate that you are taking the time and energy to do so. Aoba47 (talk) 17:35, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • The reason that I clarified this is not based on geography so it is not a US vs. UK/Europe situation. I put it in the prose just to clarify that the vinyl has the explicit version, as I have seen several instances where the clean/radio versions are the ones chosen for these releases. It is more of a clarification thing to let readers more exactly know what was on the vinyl without having to skip down to the specific track listing section. It is the same reason why I specify that the vinyl includes the instrumental version. Let me know if that helps. Aoba47 (talk) 17:35, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • I definitely did not realize that a 12-inch single refers to a vinyl. lol OK, the the European release was a vinyl, which included both the explicit and instrumental versions. One would question if the same thing applies to the American release which, based on the "Track listing" section, it does. I do think it might be better to include the fact that the American release also includes the explicit and instrumental versions, rather than the clean one. Having said that, and this question is more for me rather than to include in the article, how do this type of songs work? The physical and digital releases contain the explicit lyrics, while the music videos and radio playings contain the clean ones? --PanagiotisZois (talk) 17:50, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • @PanagiotisZois: I included the wikilink for a 12-inch single for readers who are unfamiliar with this type of music jargon. There are different types of vinyl so it is important to specify which one in this context. Upon further research, I found out the US vinyl was different than the UK/Europe one. The US has the clean, explicit, instrumental, and acapella versions, but does not have the B-side. I will add that information to the article once your copy-edit is complete as I do not want to interfere with anything. Aoba47 (talk) 18:15, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • From my understand, clean versions are made for music videos and radio playings because in a majority of places, the explicit version would not be permitted. With that being said, this song is so explicit to its core that it is rather silly to promote it with a clean version. One of the critics even pointed out that the song is pretty much nonsense with all the edits. Thank you for the questions and copy-edit. Aoba47 (talk) 18:15, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Happy to help. :D Personally, I think it would be better to add the info about the vinyl releases now, so that I can look through it. To be completely honest, the article was already top-notch—no surprise there—so there really wasn't all that much I had to improve. Having said that, since you want to upgrade the article to a FA, I dug a little deeper at the article.
  • Thank you for your help! I will add the vinyl information in an hour or two if that is okay with you. I appreciate the time that you have taken to look through everything. I will ping you once that information has been added to the article. Aoba47 (talk) 18:37, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Regarding the sources, all of them seem quite old and respectable, so I don't have many issues there. Having said that, I did notice that very few of them are tabloid sources. Whenever I see the word tabloid, my mind goes to the Daily Mail, so I'm not exactly sure if that will be a problem in the future regarding the FAN. I didn't go through every source to check if the information is accurate; to be honest, I don't believe I'll have the time for that.
  • That is a fair concern. I am not particularly worried about in this context (i.e. song and album reviews) so I will keep them for now and wait and see what a source reviewer says at the FAC level. You have already done a lot, and looking through the sources takes a considerable amount of time so no need to worry about that. Aoba47 (talk) 18:37, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • The images for the most part are fine. The cover is properly licensed, minimum resolution, and in the infobox. Missy Elliot's image is also fine. Trina's image however is a bit "worrying". It was uploaded in 2019, although its uploader claims to be from 2014; and that it's also their image that "no, I own this".
  • That is less than ideal, especially since this is the only image uploaded by that user. I have removed it as I agree with your concerns. I should have checked this prior to adding the image to the article so apologies for that. I should have been wary of it as this image is a much higher-quality than the other Trina ones. Aoba47 (talk) 18:37, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • The audio clip is fine. The sync is literal perfection, so if you were the one to create that, you should be proud of your work. I do also believe it is within the limit, so no problems there. PanagiotisZois (talk) 18:24, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you! It takes some trial-and-error to get the sync worked out, but I do find it helpful as it gives something for listeners to follow along with so they can more easily understand the lyrics. Aoba47 (talk) 18:37, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello and thanks again for your FLC support. I haven't read the article yet, but notice that there was no prior GAN. Is there a reason for skipping it? —Ojorojo (talk) 19:08, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Ojorojo: I am glad that I could help. It is not required for an article to go through the GAN process before a FAC, and I just did not feel like going through the GAN process. I have done a few song-related FACs in the past so I believe I have a pretty solid grasp on these types of articles. With that being said, I do not have any particular reason other than I just did not feel like it. I hope that clears it up. Aoba47 (talk) 20:28, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I'll try to get to it in the next couple of days. —Ojorojo (talk) 16:33, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you and sorry for the trouble. Aoba47 (talk) 18:20, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I thought I'd touch base here, before starting my review. On my first reading, it appears well-written and follows most of the MOS. But I prefer a more chronological approach as in "Lights Up": background, composition/writing/lyrics, recording/production, releases, etc. Also, for an FA, I would expect separate, more developed sections (there's nearly nothing about the song structure, instrumentation, musicians, etc.) that a "comprehensive" article would have (again, Lights Up). Think about it and I'll return after the holiday. —Ojorojo (talk) 16:44, 24 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Ojorojo: "Lights Up" received much more in-depth coverage than "No Panties", likely due to Harry Styles being much more popular and more discussed by music critics than Trina. It would be nice to get more information on "No Panties", but music critics simply did not discuss this song in the detail that you are looking for, and I have done an exhaustive search for this. You are comparing two very different songs, and I do not think it is the best comparison. Instead, each article should be judged and reviewed on their own based on the information that is available.
  • While I understand your preference for a more chronological approach, I combined the production and release together because I felt they flowed together nicely and I thought it would look odd to start with such a short section since information about the song's production and recording is limited. I have done similar structures for "Drake Would Love Me", "Candy", and "Blindfold Me" which all passed through the FAC process. I have edited the "No Panties" article to try for a more chronological approach so let me know what you think about that. Have a happy holiday. Aoba47 (talk) 17:33, 24 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Ojorojo: Apologies for the second ping. I wanted to let you know I have withdrawn the FAC as I would like to devote my time and energy elsewhere. I do not like this song so I stepped back and asked myself why I am putting my time and energy into it. Apologies for all the back-and-forth with this. I hope you are doing well and staying safe. Aoba47 (talk) 04:45, 25 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
We all need a break from time to time. Best wishes to you as well. —Ojorojo (talk) 16:43, 26 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Retired?[edit]

I see. Hope thinks work out. I was wondering about the concept of femme fatale in regards to Yuko Ichihara which a writer calls it a substereotype of poison woman from the 1920s but I can't find a single link. Cheers. Tintor2 (talk) 21:23, 27 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Tintor2: I will be at least taking a long break from Wikipedia. I would not entirely rule out a return somewhere down the line, but I just have a lot that I need to get done right now. I will still log on occasionally to keep track of the articles and lists on my watchlist.
  • Instead of looking up "poison woman", I would suggest that you research dokufu (毒婦). Here is a book, Poison Woman: Figuring Female Transgression in Modern Japanese Culture, that may have more information about it, but I would start with the original Japanese word and see where that takes you. Best of luck with it. It seems like an incredibly fascinating topic to me, and I would be interested in what you find during your search. Aoba47 (talk) 01:13, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I've Just Seen a Face[edit]

Hi there. Thanks again for your support the first time around with I've Just Seen a Face. Since withdrawing it, I and another user have made quite a few improvements. If you wanted to look it over again for its second nomination, I'd appreciate it, but no worries if you don't want to read the page a second time. Cheers. Tkbrett (✉) 16:05, 30 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Tkbrett: Thank you for your message. Unfortunately, I have retired from Wikipedia (or at least taking a substantial break) to focus on off-Wiki things. Best of luck with the FAC! Aoba47 (talk) 04:11, 1 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • That's alright, I hope you enjoy your time off and have a nice holiday season. Tkbrett (✉) 13:41, 1 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you for the kind words. I hope you have an enjoyable holiday season, and best of luck with the FAC. I always enjoy seeing song articles in that space so I'm happy that you are trying again. Aoba47 (talk) 17:29, 1 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
