MMAWiki

[edit]

Hey, just wanted to drop a note to say I wasn't trying to discourage or disparage your efforts on MMAWiki. For lots of reasons, fansites are rarely allowed to link on Wikipedia. Actually, there are lots of examples of sites that we don't link to on Wikipedia - see the WP:ELNO page, it's not just fansites. I think the main reason boils down to which ones do you allow and which ones do you not. You'll sometimes see a Wikia link for subjects where there's a large, developed wikia page. When a fansite because large enough and recognized as an "authority" on the subject, that's when you'll see a link in the EL section. A great example of that is the Civilization (series) of games has a link to the CivFanatics site which is simply gargantuan. I think if you can continue to develop MMAWiki and get that reputation of being an excellent resource you'll have a good chance of being linked. Good luck! There isn't a real hard and fast number for when a fansite is considered a good link to add, it's more about how the site is perceived by people familiar with the topic, how much additional information is available on that site, etc. If a lot of people familiar with the subject would say that site X is their "go-to" site, it's probably a good candidate for a link. Sorry for being vague but it's a vague guideline. And no worries on the attribution. There's a lot of places that copy without attributing. Since I noticed you were doing a lot of work there, I'd thought I'd point it out to you. Good luck! Ravensfire (talk) 19:42, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited 1988 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Kevin Magee (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
