I am wikibee plz help me

[edit]

Hi,

I am a wikibee (wiki+newbie=wikibee). I would like to have my own mediawiki installed. It would be named AreWiki (As far as I know Wikipedia is running on MediaWiki). I wanted to have same templates available on wikipedia working on my wiki as well. I tried to just copy / paste template pages, but it was v.tedious and i made often mistakes. Then I tried to use the Special:Export/Import. However there were some problems with xml - when i have exported a template and then just changed occurence of wikipedia into AreWiki I was not able to import it into my wiki (i think maybe it is problem with Unicode, UTF... but am not sure).

In short I would like to hve maintenance and text formatting templates (just to automate some tasks) availalbe on my wiki - how to do this?

Thx in advance and if there is any prize or voting for best admin just let me know.

Hi Aretai. I've never set up a Wiki, but I'll tell you what I can. You can definitely copy and paste templates, but if you are doing so you would likely also need to get the MediaWiki:Common.css, MediaWiki:Monobook.css, and MediaWiki:Monobook.js pages. Those contain formatting and javacode used by many of the templates. Without them the templates may not display or work the same way they do here. I don't know if you have looked at Help:Export, but that's all I know about the batch export features. I assume you have already looked at m:MediaWiki, but that's a good starting point for info on setting up your own Wiki. The mw:Help:FAQ page is also a good resource and the talk page of that FAQ is probably the best place to ask questions like this about MediaWiki configuration. --CBD 11:11, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Aretai. I am helping to run Wikireligion, I thought I might be able to help you with your wiki. Can you give me a link? Ryan Got something to say? 14:18, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Gamestotal.com

The reason for the deletion is explained on the article's talk page. The Wikipedia community was given a chance to discuss whether it should be deleted and came to the consensus that it should be deleted. You can see the discussion here. It has been protected because after the community decision to delete, it was recreated and redeleted several times. Good luck, Gwernol 21:25, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Color

[edit]

Yes, there is more than one way to change the color of your page. Are they complicated? Yes most of them are, so I'm gonna give you the simplest way I know. Basically, you put

{| style="border:none; padding: 1em; text-align: left; background-color: #F0F8FF; font-family:Papyrus;"
| colspan="2" style="font-size:150%" |

at the very beginning of the page, before everything else. Then, at the very end, add

|}

You can change the font family, text size, add a border, the alignment, and the bg color. You can also add width: 600px; in the top code to set a custom width (change the #), otherwise, it will adjust itself to the content on the page. This can be complicated, so I've tried to make it as simple as possible. If you need help or want me to do something for you, just ask. Talk to you soon. P.S. You can see a sample here of the auto-width, or here for one with a width of 500px.

Question about bots

[edit]

Hi - I noticed your question about bots on CBD's page. I suspect Wikipedia:Creating a bot is what you're looking for. -- Rick Block (talk) 18:34, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Heh, was just coming by to suggest the same. Wikipedia:Registered bots is also a good place to see how various existing bots work. --CBD 18:51, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
