Canvassing again[edit]

This is yet another biased canvassing message. How many times do I need to ask you not to do this? rʨanaɢ (talk) 02:43, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I would disagree to your use of biased canvassing messageon this occasion, if you read carefully, that was a request for the help of an admin to move the page, not a request for your vote. A unanimous consensus of moving the page back to it's original name has been reached, since you are an admin, that is why I request your help. Thank you. The article Madame Mao: The White-Boned Demon has beenproposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Does not appear to meet WP:BK

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop theproposed deletion process, but otherdeletion processes exist. Thespeedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reachconsensus for deletion. A tag has been placed on Madame Mao: The White-Boned Demon, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect to an article talk page, file description page, file talk page, MediaWiki page, MediaWiki talk page, category talk page, portal talk page, template talk page, help talk, user page, user talk or special page from the main/article space.

If you can fix the redirect to point to a mainspace page, please do so and remove the speedy deletion tag. However, please do not remove the speedy deletion tag unless you are fixing the redirect. If you think the redirect should be retained as is for some reason, you can request thatadministrators wait a while before deleting it. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your reasoning on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this.DASHBot (talk) 06:00, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Madame Mao.jpg[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploadingFile:Madame Mao.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currentlyorphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Weiquan movement - public response[edit]

As your Chinese is doubtless better than mine, I would like to encourage you to try your hand at writing the "public" (Chinese) response to theWeiquan movement, since you had expressed some interest in it previously with your comment on Ai Weiwei. Fair use rationale for File:Becoming_Madame_Mao.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing toFile:Becoming_Madame_Mao.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice?feydey (talk) 11:06, 23 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thumbs up![edit]

I just wanted to leave a short note of admiration and support for your WP work. Although a newbie, I have seen that you uphold patiently the common sense WP principles. When one sees how much emotionally engaged, even fanatically some users spend all their time to apply for deletion of any graphic images or video material of the underground democratic movement in mainland China like in 2011 Chinese protests andTiananmen Square protests of 1989 under the disguise of false claims of copyright violations. They even try to bring conspiracy theories into articles by citing mainland propaganda or denounce 'Voice of America' of being non-reliable, deleting their video news coverage repeatedly, using different alias. These people try to twist WP principles against the very aim of WP itself, which is to bring enlightenment and pluralistic views. I encourage you to continue your important work no matter how long it takes to counter the fanatics. In the long run, history will proof the fanatics wrong. Zhangjiandong (talk) 17:34, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your compliment Zhangjiandong, like I had said somewhere before, there will be more and more 50 cents party around, only persistent and patience will win at the end. Arilang talk 21:05, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • I hope you won't mind me butting in here, but I just wanted to make an observation that this seemed to be rather aggressive. WP is an open project for the good reason that the best stuff is created by broad participation. I really don't see why any editor unwarrants being told to "give up". --Ohconfucius ¡digame! 02:19, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your comment, OCF,the "give up" was not meant to discourage him from participating in wiki editing, my apology if it has led to any misunderstanding. I felt that his numerous response to other editors comment were a bit excessive, that was what "give up" was referring to. Arilang talk 08:58, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
To me it read more like a taunt. Just saying. -- 李博杰  | Talkcontribsemail 10:13, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
After reading all those comments on that AfD, my experience told me that, more than likely, the result of the debate would be a Keep, and seeing that Zlqq was still keep on arguing, my "Give up, you can't win" comment was really a friendly comment, reminding him not to waste anymore time in defending his view points. It wasn't meant to try to scare him off wikipedia. Arilang talk 11:04, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
>Give up, you can't win
>friendly
What am I reading? -- 李博杰  | Talkcontribsemail 12:25, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to barge in on your conversation, but you really shouldn't belong on the Wikipedia project if you are intent on solely pushing your own POV, and have no other purpose for being here. Wikipedia maintains aWP:NPOV policy, and regardless of whether an editor likes or dislikes a topic, must keep it as neutral as possible. However, having read remarks from you such as

>In the long run, history will proof the fanatics wrong. (POV much? Fanatical pot calling the kettle black?)
>denounce 'Voice of America' of being non-reliable (Non sequitur much?)
>under the disguise of false claims of copyright violations (proof?)
>using different alias (proof? ad hominem?)
>against the very aim of WP itself, which is to bring enlightenment and pluralistic views (what are you talking about? Wikipedia has no such aims for "enlightenment", see WP:PILLAR and WP:ABOUT)

do you really believe that I can expect you to make NPOV contributions? As said many times before, Wikipedia isn't the place forpromotion or your noble, righteous cause of justice. Keep in mind that I have seen many Falun Gong activist users on Wikipedia meet the banhammer during my time because they stringently refused to adhere to Wikipedia's policies; I hope that one day I do not end up seeing the same fate happen with you. Don't take this personally, I don't necessarily want to be in direct opposition to you; rather I only wish to warn you, and make a suggestion to which you may or may not like to follow, after all many new editors do make the common mistake on editing based on POV. Also, thanks for letting me in on diff linksfor this discussion, just in case there's a point where I'll have to use them in the future. Next time be aware that anything you write on a talk page is public and can be viewed by anyone, and is permanently stored in the page history (unless it has BLP issues) forever, meaning that down the track someone may use your words against you in a RfC if you end up in something big. Kindest regards, -- 李博杰  | Talkcontribsemail 10:00, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As for Arilang: You have been warned many times before not to use the 50 Cent Party card when accusing other editors of POV, especially as an ad hominem WP:ATTACK against another person. Do I really need to take this to the administrator noticeboard again? You were warned last time during the ANI discussion that if you made such comments again, you would be banned for a set amount of time. -- 李博杰  | Talkcontribsemail 10:04, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It looked very much like you were haranguing Zlqq, and you seem to have succeeded in driving him/her from the article. As far as I can tell, User:Zlqq2144 has done no more "excessive" argumentation that you, so I think you comment was rather unjustified under the circumstances. I do hope you will always bear in mind this maxim I hold dear: “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.” (Evelyn Beatrice Hall) --Ohconfucius¡digame! 10:09, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Even though the comment seems harsh, it was really made in the context of his 60 plus comments here:[1]. For a newbie, to make 60 plus comments on a AfD debate just seem to be a bit excessive. About my 50 cents party comment, it was really a slip of the tongue, wasn't meant to be a personal attack comment. My promise to Benlinsquare that there shall be no more of this from me. Arilang talk 10:48, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Most editors made only one or two comments on that AfD, you made 12. So Zlqq made 60... so what? Freedom of speech is not about something related to seniority. Who is it to say that a newbie doesn't have an opinion, the right to express it, or that his/her opinion in this instance is worth less than someone who has been actively editing WP for 2 years or someone with 10,000 edits to his/her name? It seems that despite his/her lack of editing experience, the arguments used are more solid and better founded than many of the WP:ILIKEIT-type arguments habitually seen at AfDs. For all you know, xhe may have been lurking for a long time; for all you know, he may be Ma Ying-jeou.--Ohconfucius ¡digame! 04:44, 8 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I was a bit confused about why you addedCultural RevolutionGreat Leap Forward, and Mao's Great Famineto the category; in my opinion, these don't quite fit. Although they were indeed big time political fails, it may be controversial categorizing them as disasters. I don't necessarily disagree, but I'm not seeing this as a clear cut case, either. May you please explain? Thanks, Airplaneman 05:24, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The official CCP stance on CR: "It is stated that the Cultural Revolution...brought serious disaster and turmoil to the Communist Party and the Chinese people." Great Leap Forward was the direct cause of unnatural death of tens of millions of Chinese, to call it a disaster is just too tame. Mao's Great Famine is a book about Chinese famine, I don't see anything wrong to put it under this category. Arilang talk 07:27, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm, I guess it really depends on how you define the word disaster. The category, it looks like, generally contains articles about natural disasters. However, I can see how the Cultural Revolution and the Great Leap Forward can be included. I did not realize that Mao's Great Famine was a book (I was skimming diffs yesterday and failed to actually read content); I will remove the category from there because the book itself is not a disaster (well, unless critics panned it, etc. etc.) but still... :) Airplaneman 04:32, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Addendum: already refined. Airplaneman 04:34, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have also removed two categories as being redundant: both are general, and are superseded by the more precise Category:Famines in China.--Ohconfucius ¡digame! 04:55, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Buyeo/Fuyu, Balhae/Bohai should be listed as wiki china[edit]

Buyeo/Fuyu, Balhae/Bohai should be listed as wiki china too.

Those pages are too koreancentric. And Buyeo isnt even korean as they are manchurian. And the kingdom of Buyeo should be listed as history of china and Balhae should be listed as history of china and korea.

I think its best wiki China project should be involved in those pages. What do you think? — Precedingunsigned comment added byLumber111 (talkcontribs) 13:39, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Great Leap Forward's strange justifications[edit]

I agree with your deletion request for removing parts that try to justify Great Leap's death toll by comparing poverty/mortality data of other countries. I am from India and I openly acknowledge China is ahead of us in development but it is just absurd that they try to justify a massacre by comparing it to something totally unrelated. The Great Leap was a movement and India has absolutely nothing to do with it. Then why use us as scapegoats? If Indian articles on poverty dont justify it by saying 'Oh we might be behind China but look how many they killed in Great Leap' then why should they do it with us? I was going to remove it but after reading your works I think I should better ask you first. Swift&silent (talk) 18:39, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your comment user S&S, in case you don't know, there are quite a few Chinese/English bilingual editors working around China related articles such as Great Leap Forward, Great Chinese Famine and Cultural Revolution, trying to add any things that would help painting a positive image for china, in the process, they would ignore or bend any Wikipedia rules. It is really a nuisance that need to be stopped. Before you deleted those stuff, please leave a comment on the relevant talk page, stating your reasoning, and I shall come to your support. Arilang talk 22:53, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You are too kind. Actually it is I who should thank you and here it is Thank You.
Swift&silent (talk) 13:34, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for pointing out similar discrepancies in Great Chinese Famine. It is painful how they have misquoted Sen as that is opposite of what he has tried to convey. We can remove his quote or put a more representative one and I have made an edit on Great famine to put this is in effect. Though I am against anything in 'Alternative Interpretation' as an Encyclopedia shall be focused and to the point rather than being an letter of apology/justifications of events. If we neutralize the bitter lessons from history we will be failing the very basic reason behind documenting it i.e. to learn from the mistakes of the past. Image watermarks[edit]

Regarding photos such as Commons:File:Du Yuesheng2.jpg, it isagainst Wikipedia's image use policy to upload images with watermarking, as there are legal and copyright issues, even if the image should be public domain since it is an old image. I suggest you have a review of all uploaded images; if there are any other Chinese historical photographs that you have uploaded containing watermarks, let me know immediately, so that I can remove the watermark using Adobe Photoshop CS5. Note that I will do this for historical photographs only, for example, images of notable people. I also urge other editors to do the same and check their uploaded images as well. I have already removed the watermark onCommons:File:Du Yuesheng2.jpg, since it is a historically significant photograph. -- 李博杰  | Talkcontribsemail 11:18, 8 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Arilang talk 09:49, 22 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • In future conflicts, in order to avoid accusations of canvassing, it would be advisable to state your case at the appropriate forum – in this case, the NPOV noticeboard – using reasoned arguments (and not rhetoric) instead of posting to userpages. There are many ways of resolving a dispute, such as 3O and RFC, so I would consider ANI as a 'last resort', and should not be seized at the first opportunity.--Ohconfucius¡digame! 00:30, 23 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think the best course of action for your both is to stop commenting about each other and avoid any interactions until you can work collaboratively together. Why? Because an alternative will be only worse. You both complained at ANI already and only created disruption. Filing RFC/U also does not make any sense unless you are going to arbitration. And in the case of arbitration, I would expect youboth to be banned or topic-banned. So better do not go there. P.S. I am not going to be anywhere near ANI/AE/RFC/ARB pages if my current restrictions are lifted. And do not expect me to be on anyone's side.Hodja Nasreddin (talk) 22:49, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The dead horse[edit]

I suggest you stop beating it. The horse is already dead, and beating it further won't make it gallop. The horrible smell from the dead carcass of the horse istaking up the whole room, and I just had breakfast. Fair use rationale for File:Founding of party.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Founding of party.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 02:40, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, this image contains a digital watermark from Sina.com.cn, which is unacceptable under Wikipedia's policies. You must find an alternative image without the watermark, and replace the current image with a new revision. I cannot digitally alter the image since there is text surrounding the area with the watermark.

Secondly, I have fixed the licensing for you. That is not how you use "free-use". -- 李博杰  | Talkcontribsemail 03:12, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Leave it at the one, please. Don't change it around any more. I don't want to go jumping around the place over which poster to use, just keep it at the one. The one you changed to was non-preferable as landscape images don't fit the film infobox template well. Plus, the landscape image has a watermark anyway - what did I tell you about watermarks?-- 李博杰  | Talkcontribsemail 15:14, 12 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Founding of a Party‎[edit]

You are passionate about your politics, and strong in your opposition to the PRC regime. You seem to transform into a very defensive person when faced with any opposition to your views, which I can only describe as 'entrenched'. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's wrong to hold strong opinions. However, you stray into the realm of advocacy, and the way in which this belief is problematical – it is manifesting itself by constant conflict with other editors. I believe there is no need to force one's views down the throats of others; it is a waste of time and effort to flog dead horses. I would strongly urge you not to show manifest disregard for others, and to show due deference to their opinions whilst of course reserving the right to your own.--Ohconfucius ¡digame! 15:06, 18 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your comment OCF, but I think there is a bit of misunderstanding there:
  • (1) No, I am not "strong in your opposition to the PRC regime", just have a look:[3] which was created by me, if I was such a biased person, would I bother to spend so much time to contribute to this article, mind you, I am the only editor who care to work on it so far, nobody else did care to add one single word. Now, who is more into advocating CPC's history on Wikipedia?
  • (1.1) There is no "constant conflict with other editors", I do interact with many other editors nicely, for example, on the WP:Reliable sources/Noticeboard discussions, there is no problem at all. Seeyears old history book and1900 National Upheaval.
  • (2) I never "force one's view down the throats of others", in the discussion on The Founding of a Party talkpage, all I did argue about is whether Radio France International is secondary source or not, of which yourself had agreed to:[4], also, should the question of RS of VeryCD be raised at WP:RSN or not.
  • (3) I do appreciate all the help I got from you in the past, and I still very much respect your opinion at present, but I object to your comment:"..show manifest disregard for others" which I have not done so. In the past, I often called others names, but not anymore, I have changed totally, now my talkpage discussion is always based on wiki rules, and how best to use them, how not to abuse them. Isn't it a positive development?
  • (4) I have never "stray into the realm of advocacy". My editing style should not be simply classed as anti this or anti that, that would be a very narrow and biased perspective, which is not my perspective. Taking all my editing contributions and all the articles created by me into context, my effort should be seen as maintaining neutrality of wikipedia project in totality. That said, I like to stress that I do respect, and need other editor's help to improve my editing skill, and I do always respect your view points.
  • (5) I am not "passionate about your politics, and strong in your opposition to the PRC regime." No, that is not the case, one good example is the Ai Weiwei article, I had begun to cite Wen Wei Po, and I will continue to do so. And File:The Founding of a Party.jpg was uploaded by me.
  • (6) I have created articles on Manchu Emperor Imperial Decrees andWuwei Troop, all these articles do put Manchu in a positive light, which would put the theory that I am "anti-Manchu" at rest.
  • (7) On the The Founding of a Party talkpage, nor on any other talkpage, I have never used vulgar language like other editors did:[5], surely...
  • (8) On the Talk:2011 Chinese pro-democracy protests[6], I did advocate the use of "Jasmine" on the title, but then I had also shown my respect towards consensus:[7]

Arilang talk 00:21, 19 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate and acknowledge that you behaviour overall is not totally one-sided and negative, but my criticism is specific to the bizarre and unnecessary escalation of the dispute at the movie article, as the title clearly implied. It seemed clear to me that what you raised was a non-issue, and would have ended if you had simply posted to RS/N and let the matter drop at the article talk. It seems that you were unable to take a course of action that would resolve the issue, and what is worrying to me is that things then seems to have exploded. I encouraged you to take it to RS/N, but. Instead, you participated and responded to trolling from another party. You kept on goinglong after you should have stopped. You were both out of order and my 'deny recognition' comment was addressed to the both of you. I don't mean to be overcritical, but bearing in mind the recent problematic interactions with others, I thought I would just remind you that it takes two to tango. --Ohconfucius ¡digame! 03:48, 19 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Even though the comment seems harsh, it was really made in the context of his 60 plus comments here:[8].

  • (1) No, I am not "strong in your opposition to the PRC regime", just have a look:[10] which was created by me, if I was such a biased person, would I bother to spend so much time to contribute to this article, mind you, I am the only editor who care to work on it so far, nobody else did care to add one single word.
  • (2) I never "force one's view down the throats of others", in the discussion on The Founding of a Party talkpage, all I did argue about is whether Radio France International is secondary source or not, of which yourself had agreed to:[11], also, should the question of RS of VeryCD be raised at WP:RSN or not.
  • (7) On the The Founding of a Party talkpage, nor on any other talkpage, I have never used vulgar language like other editors did:[12], surely...
  • (8) On the Talk:2011 Chinese pro-democracy protests[13], I did advocate the use of "Jasmine" on the title, but then I had also shown my respect towards consensus:[14]
