FPC Vote on Red Sand Garden

Hi Arjun,

Just wondering if you would be willing to reconsider your vote on my picture of the Red Sand Garden in FPC as I have fixed the problem with the black strip of pixels which was the reason for your oppose. Thanks, --jjron 08:44, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Done. — Arjun 02:03, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

Stratocaster List

Uhh???....Alex Lifeson is a non-notable guitarist??? I am shocked!!!! He used a Strat through most of the entire 80s decade BTW. Cheers. Anger22 (Talk 2 22) 21:29, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

Oops, sorry about that, he he, I have to be more careful. Sorry!!! And thank you for bringing that to attention. — Arjun 21:33, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism

Your welcome. Most of my edits anyway are reverting vandalism. But I'm changing that, now I'm copy-editting and cleaning up articles! But I'm still doing alot of vandalism reverting... oh well! It's very deserving. Heh, thanks for replying to my email! XP --Tohru Honda13Sign here! 02:29, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

No prob! Feel free to pop into my email anytime you want! — Arjun 02:31, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
I've been giving them warnings, but not recently :P Thanks for the tip Arjun! Much appreciated! And right now I'm trying to fix my userpage, which I really hate to do... XP Oh, and I've hit the 700 mainspace edits line!!! File:SoleteRayosÑajo.gif --Tohru Honda13Sign here! 02:43, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
Wow!!! Congrats on hitting the 700 mainspace tally! Keep up the great work, but as for me I am drawing closer to the 2,000 mainspace record! Cheers and I hope life is treating you well. — Arjun 02:45, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for reverting the vandalism on the Plasmodium page. Since a lot of parasites spread by the orofaecal route that could have been confusing. - DrMicro

No problem, anytime. — Arjun 21:50, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your support

Thank you for your support in the RfA on my behalf. It is an honor to have received your expression of confidence. To be chosen as an administrator requires a high level of confidence by a broad section of the community. Although I received a great deal of support, at this time I do not hold the level of confidence required, and the RfA did not pass. It is my wish that I will continue to deserve your confidence. Sincerely, --BostonMA talk 19:10, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

I am so sorry about that. I really thought that it would. Keep up the great work and follow the advice of the opposers and I think that you will become an admin later on. — Arjun 19:12, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism level should be increased to yellow

I saw Bobby Bolder's last night vandalizing pages. Tonight, there is an edit war going on with User:Norm's user page as well as other edits. I think the level should be increased to yellow (or orange) from US (3 p.m. - 12 a.m. EDT) b/c of school kids getting off from school. Bearly541 23:59, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Well if you think it should be change feel free to do so :D. I am not the one in charge, just go to WP:WDEFCON and edit the template. I was just Rcping earlier and I can't really seem to catch anything. — Arjun 00:01, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

Vote!

Vote here at Wikipedia:Barnstar and award proposals/New Proposals#Copyeditor's Barnstar, or League of Copyeditors award for the Copyeditor's Barnstar! It's really pretty, and I know it will be approved, but first we need to vote :D --Tohru Honda13Sign here! 01:12, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

RfA comments

Hello, I really appreciate your taking the time to consider my RfA. I expanded responses to some of the questions to address some of the concerns you raised. Best, --Shirahadasha 09:08, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

Fair Use

I really wish I understood the whole fair use thing. What difference does it make what images are used? And if I don't use that image, where can I get an image that is allowed on my page? --teh tennisman 21:46, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

Okay basically read this. That should be more informative. You can use any other image! It is really that simple, most images on wikipedia are non-fair use...except for all the business and tradmark images. Try looking around in Commons. They should have an image that suits you. — Arjun 21:51, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

read the article

That is a good point. However, I have some more specific questions.--Filll 22:45, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

Replied on Talk:Hinduism. — Arjun 23:10, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. I hope I do not say anything offensive so please bear with me. I know next to nothing about Hinduism.

  • Are there different sects of Hinduism?
  • Do these sects get along?
  • How prevalent is the notion that the Vedic creation story actually is true in Hinduism and in India?
  • Are there ever any charges that Vedic science is pseudoscience?
  • Is the ISKCON a non Hinduism sect? Are they nondoctrinal ? Fringe?
  • Are there ISKCON representatives or Hinduism believers who are similar to ISKCON in India or in mainstream Hinduism?
  • How different are the beliefs of ISKCON from Hinduism as a whole? And in what ways?
  • What is Hindutva? Are they connected with Hinduism in any way?
  • Why did the US state department issue concerned reports about Hindutva's influence on school textbooks in India?
  • Who is a Hindutva and who is not? How can one tell the difference?
  • Who is Swami Prakashanand Saraswati? Is he well known?

Sorry for so many questions. I really know nothing at all and I am just trying to understand.--Filll 22:16, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

Thank you so much for answering. I hope I did not offend and I do not want to offend in any way shape or form. Permit me to ask a few more questions then:

Roughly what fraction of Hindus would you find who claimed, based on Vedic scriptures or teachings:

  • "I believe that man was alive at the same time as dinosaurs",
  • "I believe that the earth is more than 5 billion years old,"
  • "I believe that man does not evolve physically with time"
  • "I believe that my ancestors were NOT rat-like creatures, and before that lizards, and before that fish, and before that primitive sea creatures"
  • "I believe all living creatures on earth do not have the same ancestors"
  • "I believe the earth has been through multiple cycles of rebirth and men were recreated each cycle"
  • "Man is descended from demigods and goddesses at the start of each cycle"
  • "the following are sciences: astrology, vastu, yogic flying, Vedic creationism, transcendental meditation or ayurveda."
  • Would agree with

It is a fact that in the world almost all the academic literature in English about Hinduism, even by Hindu writers, bears the western influence, and that, none of these books represent the correct view of total authentic Hinduism. Historians forget that one cannot determine the history of Bharatvarsh on meager archaeological findings of coins, toys and pots. Whereas the general history of Bharatvarsh is already written in its scriptures and the Puranas whose texts and the philosophical descriptions are the outcome of the Gracious and benevolent minds of eternal Saints.

  • would agree with

In no way could there be any comparison of the western religions (which are based on mythologies) with the Hindu Vedic religion which is eternal, universal and is directly revealed by the supreme God.

  • would agree with

Divine writings cannot be analyzed in a material way. How could a worldly being, possessed with the vehemence of his own passions and desires, try to argue with the writings of Sages and Saints whose entire life was a divine benevolence for the souls of the world? You should know that all of our religious writings are Divine facts, and facts always remain facts, they cannot become myths. Using the word myth for our religious history is a serious spiritual transgression.

--Filll 23:10, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

Wow, where to start :D. Please understand that I am an American (contrary to popular belief around here). I do know some things, but first I am going to copy and paste this entire discussion on the talk page of the WP:HNB. That way more people will be able to jump in. — Arjun 23:19, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks!

Your userpage is the best I have ever seen! Ever! Wow, that must have been hard work...I might copy it :D. Cheers and your work on wikipedia is greatly appreciated, keep it up! — Arjun 17:32, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

no prob! — Arjun 23:30, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

Need a favour

The "Hendrix" vandal (IP 68.80.30.39) is back at it on several articles. I'm getting tired of rv'ing his nonsense. If you have time could you roll back his last flurry of vandalism. I test4'd him last night and reported him to AiV. But I got a "passive" admin who was too "nice nice" and let him go. Frustrating! Cheers and take care! Anger22 (Talk 2 22) 01:41, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

No prob, I will keep an eye ono things. I just caught him vandalizing the Metallicadid I spell that right page. Gave him a test4 and we will see what happens from there. — Arjun 01:50, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
He ignored the test4. Guess it must be a boring night in New Jersey for him? Anger22 (Talk 2 22) 01:58, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
Hopefully an Admin "with a pair" is on duty. I knew about your name change before it took place....the namechange page is on my watchlist. What isn't on my watchlist? :) Cheers! Anger22 (Talk 2 22) 02:01, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
Ha ha, true it would be nice ;). I wonder what isn't on your watchlist. I used to have over 500! — Arjun 02:06, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
My watchlist currently has 3245 pages. I browse strictly through VandalProof. So I have a very thorough blacklist to aid me. VP is only working at 25% right now due to a few glitches that no one has any time to fix. But I muddle through. I actually don't "sit" at a computer very often. I have a wireless laptop in just about every room in my house(even one out by the pool) All of them are piped back through my office proxy. So as I'm walking from room to room....I periodically stop and check my watchlist. Rv the baddies....MAYBE make a valid edit here and there...and then walk away for a while. My "wiki-stress" = 0 as I don't really follow the entire "community" too closely. I just do what I do(very well I might add) and then I move on. I have made some good "Wiki-friends" along the way. And I've seen a few who let Wiki get to them and quit. I'm still here...for now anyways. It's an interesting hobby that helps me pass the time in my semi-retired state. For almost 25 years I've been an Engineering nerd running a successful business that spans across Canada. Prior to my Engineering career, I was a road weary guitarist in a hundred different bands playing jazz clubs, seedy dives(behind chicken wire no less), KofC dance halls, army bases(like Spinal Tap) and even a few 10000 seat arenas. I've been paid to play to a completely empty rooms.(hated those gigs) Even did some brief stints in a couple of bands that opened for a few "fairly" notable Cdn Rock acts like Triumph, Moxy, Teaze and Mahogany Rush. Did a couple interesting shows opening for Bob Seger.(we were actually opening up for the opening act...that's pretty low) Turned down an support slot with some unknown(at the time) artist named Petty(managers can be stupid sometimes!) And, right near the end of my musical journey, did 3 shows with Motorhead.(before anyone had ever heard of them) With those kind of miles, nothing that happens here on Wikipedia ever gets to me. The "anger" in my user name has nothing to do with my disposition(Anger/22 was actually my nickname/number when I played college hockey) I could leave here tomorrow and not miss it. But I won't. Maybe??? Cheers and take care! Anger22 (Talk 2 22) 03:59, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
Wow that is awesome! Same here on wikipedia I No comprendo wikistress, as this is supposed to be fun and enjoyable. Once that feeling is gone I am out. As for my work on here I am actually on it fairly limited. One minute I am on the next I am away for hours . I am just so busy in real life with school, music and many many others that would be silly to explain here. It feels like yesterday when I first logged on to wikipedia under the screen name Littlewing1, I made hardly any edits and I didn't know how to exactly help out. But now as Arjun I have found my way around here pretty eaisily and can be found in a number of places. My interests are amazingly diverse on minute I am reverting vandalism the next I am working on the Hinduism article and the next I am fixing refs to the Stevie Ray Vaughan article. As for my music career I am somewhat new, I picked up the Guitar about 2 1/2 years ago when I just wanted to impress a friend. But then I became a Guitaraholic (and that is where I am now :D). I play at various places but it is kind of hard to find anything descent due to my age! I am a what you would call a Voodoo Chile. My friends sometimes poke fun of me since I am a devout Hindu and one minute I can be found meditating and the next I can be found soloing to Jimi Hendrix's songs. But I am just who I am. — Arjun 04:11, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
being a chameleon is much more interesting than just "sheeping in" with the pack. Not too long ago, I was in a posh conference room in Detroit. Across the table from me were 4 "extremely stiff" suits. I imagined these four men(all of them at least 10 years younger than me) had probably been "stiff" their entire lives. And they were about to sign over huge amounts of money to a man that, in 1975, had waste-length hair and was front row centre at a Led Zeppelin concert. Wikipedia is an intersting concept. I enjoy reading random articles. But take just about everything I read with a grain of salt. Both of my sons are high school teachers. And they both tell their students not to use Wikipedia as a resource. I don't know that I scrutinize it that much, but I can understand their leaning. If I were to acutally "sit" and edit here, I'd probably go nuts. I can "one-button" it 'til the cows come home and not get uptight about anything I see here. If the vandals only knew just how easy rv'ing their foolishness is. Of course, if a vandal "knew anything" they wouldn't be a vandal then would they? Cheers! Anger22 (Talk 2 22) 04:30, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

I mean, I can't believe no one has award you it before! Ah, yes, here's one more that I made from scratch...

Yeah, I've been rockin' out since I was a baby (rather literally, my daddy played metal and hard rock all the time, at which I would dance and head-bang walls...ouch!). I'll go to my public library some time this weekend to look for some books on strat players. Once again, I'm sorry I haven't contributed to the Guitarist Wikiproject. I know I love Guitarists, I just can't find what to do for that project. Copyediting seems to be my only achievement. So, for now, I'll be reverting some vandalism here and there. Hope that's okay. And besides, I've just joined the Sailor Moon WikiProject, and I've been totally absorbed in copyediting an episode article. Matter of fact, I should get to it...I'm determined to copyedit at least one article by myself, then let someone else proofread it. It's pretty tough, but life isn't always easy, I'm told. Well, back to the subject...I'll go the library sometime on the weekend, and I'll root through my personal library for any books related to Strat players. Well, copyedit's a callin'! --Tohru Honda13Sign here! 04:23, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

Hey thats cool! Contribute when you can, and don't think copyediting is easy or a bad thing. It is what makes the final pieces to the puzzle. Oh and don't feel pressured to work on it or find books or whatever, just do as you please and we will all be happy :D — Arjun 04:26, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

wdefcon template vandalism

I am going to go out on a limb and assume that Fatdoggys edits to the template are in good faith. I think he is a fairly inexpereinced editor who is trying to update the wdefcon template! Feel free to give him some points on why you consider that vandalism. (I think he is trying to update it and does not know how to resign his name or something like that). I have been helping this user a little bit recently and I have no reason to believe he has anything but best of intentions. -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 18:37, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

Okay sure I will give him/her a rundown of the template. Basically I considered it vandalism that Fatdoggys replaced Anthony cfc with his username, and then the template got kind of messed up. Sorry if I seemed to Drastic. Cheers! — Arjun 18:39, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
No problem! I wasent trying to be an ass. I just remeber when I first started. If i did not know the ins and outs of wikipedia, and wanted to update something by myself, i would probably try to emulate another users actions (I still do that today, copying templates, cool user page ideas etc). I think he just wanted to update the status and use his name (so he just replaced the other name with his name?). Just a guess. Thanks again! -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 18:42, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
Nah it's cool :p. Yeah I was just a little tense, and I thought it was deliberate, but who knows. I gave him a little bit of a rundown on his talk page. Well cheers! — Arjun 18:49, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

rfa nom

Hey! Thanks for the confidence. I was nominated a little over a month ago and the views were that I was a great editor just needed more expereince. Please let me ask for some feedback from other editors before I either choose to accept or not accept the nomination! Thank you again for the confidence in me. -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 19:45, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

Arjun, i would support you as an administrator. However, I feel as if it has been to short a time since my last failed RFA. I have been in contact with other edtiors who have reviewed my progress since my last RFA, and theyu reccomend that I wait a little bit longer. So, I am formally declining a nomination to become an administrator as of now. In another month or so, i would be interested in being nominated again. Thank you again for your faith in my editing abilities, it is much appreciated. Thanks again. -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 22:02, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, don't worry in no time you will be a great admin. I didn't realize you had an RFA a month ago. I will see you again in a couple of months ;) — Arjun 22:04, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

Erm, good luck!!! I supported you then and I will support you in the future. And no I haven't really been thinking about running for admin as I would like around 5-6 months of time here and I only started in September...I think. Cheers — Arjun 03:51, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

What do you think?

I've been thinking about adopting a user, but I have mixed feelings about... what do you think? I'm not experienced, but an average editor I guess. :( --Tohru HondaSign here! 06:05, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

As an editor you rock!!! Go for it, you are an experienced user and thats all that matters. It is really up to you, I used to want to adopt a user but I have decided not to since I think it would interfere with my work on wikipedia. But I am always available to help the new comers. I think I would have been so happy though as a newcomer if someone like you adopted me. Go for it! Cheers and good luck. — Arjun 14:19, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
I'll think about it. Well, no. I will adopt. But first, I want to get copyediting my current article finished first. It's really kicking my ass right now... but that's the joy of editing! Oh, and I also want to get those Strat players books for that article. Can't let that hanging. Speaking of, I should do that today. Hopefully they'll have the books I'm looking for. Oh, and I'm assuming your favorite guitar is the Strat? Mine's the Gibson. My uncle has an entire collection of Gibson guitars (about 12), and boy are they beautiful. Don't mean to brag but... all my uncles on my dad's side (5) play the guitar! And then on my mom's side, one uncle and a cousin play the guitar as well. It's only natural for me to come out as a guitarist. :P Well, seeya! --Tohru HondaSign here! 20:26, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
Sweet!!! Your favorite guitars are Gibsons! Wow, Gibsons are awesome. When it comes to Gibson my favorite is the Les Paul. Wow you rock for knowing this stuff :D. If I could guess your favorite Gibson model would be the SG but thats just a guess. I come from a long line of guitar pickers, mainly the old stuff. I my self play Strats since they give me the sound and feel for the Blues, which is my favorite type. But they also rock for Jimi Hendrix which I first learned to play Voodoo Child (Slight Return) when I was 13. Yeah it is preference but hey they both rock. Cheers! — Arjun 20:31, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I love the SG, but I also like the Marauder and the Flying V. Sadly, I own no such electric guitar :( but I do have an acoustic guitar. Heh heh, I can play some rock songs on it. THey sound funny on the acoustic. I can only play Stairway to Heaven, Back in Black, and Smoke on the Water. For more info on my musical interests, see this. Of course, I'm not half done with it.
