Your RFA

Saw you withdrew your RFA. Sorry it didn't go so well. I just wanted to say that I think you're a great contributor and I hope to support you next time. Don't let it stress you out, though. Wikipedia is still better because you contribute whether you are an admin or not.--v/r - TP 01:58, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • While I was neutral, I cam here to say basically the same thing as TParis. I spent a fair bit of time looking over your contributions and they are really really good. I just think you need to address the handful of issues raised and come back in 3 months if you are still interested. Please don't leave the project or something else like that, your work is really outstanding and appreciated. Plus your answers on image issues were easily the best I've seen. We need more people who understand that stuff well. Hobit (talk) 02:03, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with these sentiments. I opposed, but if you work on communications skills, I can't see any reason you wouldn't get the tools the next time around. In the meantime, you make valuable contributions here. MarmadukePercy (talk) 02:05, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hobit brought up a good point I meant to mention. Your answer to question 7 was really impressive.--v/r - TP 02:13, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • I think the no voters were very hard on you; it's obvious from the maintenance and admin work you already do you could undertake admin duties in your sleep. Seriously Armbrust, you are the best editor I've ever come across on Wikipedia. Betty Logan (talk) 02:35, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well I'm glad someone's using it :)

In places particularlly for events the wording could be improved, events tend to have a promoter rather than a publisher ;)

Any improvements you can make to the template much appreciated (provided they are documented ;)

Help!

Hi, I'm finding this Wikipedia stuff really really difficult. I've tried to submit a piece about a photographer Damian Bird, but it was rejected because it needs inline citations or something. I've tried to find some URLs to link to, to show Damian's numerous published features, but because they were all done before the newspapers and magazines really got into the idea of having internet sites, his articles are not listed in their archives. I have hard copies of all the magazine and newspaper articles, from which I took all the titles of the magazines, titles of the features and the dates and I added them as references at the bottom of my article, but it seems that this is not enough. Please can you help me. I'm tearing my hair out! :( Thank you in advance........ Mingusbingus (talk) 07:56, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I advice reading referencing for beginners first. Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 10:10, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Davis vs Reynolds

It's a shame a source can't be found for this being the only whitewash in a ranking final. It's quite a noteworthy achievement and I know it's true, I just can't find it mentioned anywhere... SteveO (talk) 14:56, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I couldn't find it any reliable sources either. Altough I found this, it's not reliable. I only could fined one, that states it was the first one. Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 15:21, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I did trawl though Google but couldn't find anything better than this. I'll keep a look out as it'd be a nice fact to have in the article. SteveO (talk) 23:03, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You will find that I added two citations establishing Dr. Meisels's notability as a major contributor to early childhood. (Mica451 (talk) 18:37, 20 May 2011 (UTC))[reply]

Hello, As corporate communication manager I am working to create an article about ZUNO BANK in wiki, I would also upload an image but I am not able. Could you help me with this because I am quite new with wiki and I am not aware with everything? Thank you by advance. Best regards, Antoine, valade (talk) 10:44, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but I can't help you with the upload of this file, because there's no article on which this picture should be used and logos are generally copyrighted. Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 19:23, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
OK, but the thing is I have the article for ZUNO BANK but I just wanted to publish it with the logo. Should I publish the logo and then the pic?Antoine, valade (talk) 06:46, 25 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I think you should first create the article, and than request the upload of the logo at files for upload. Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 07:46, 25 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I came to you last time according to a question for the logo of my company ZUNO BANK AG. I made what you told me and somebody from wiki answer me to send a link for the copyright of the image but my legal departement explained me that we do not have such a digital document they are asking a contact to send our terms of use concerning our logo. Can you help me with this request? Thanks by advance. Antoine, valade (talk) 13:26, 2 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have uploaded it under a non-free licence for now (there). If you want that the file have a {{cc-by-2.0}} license, than follow the instructions at WP:CONSENT. Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 09:39, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I am working with my legal department on the licence for the ZUNO logo. However I have an other requirement, somebody change the name of the page, but our company is ZUNO BANK AG and our marketing department would like that the ZUNO page have this name and not just ZUNO Bank. Could you make it, please. Thx by advance.Antoine, valade (talk) 12:42, 13 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Changed the name of the page to "ZUNO Bank AG". Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 15:51, 17 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you but is it also possible to have BANK in capital letter?Antoine, valade (talk) 08:39, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, once again could we please have the title of the article as ZUNO BANK AG please. Its one of the Branding rules of our company and marketing is not agree to let the article if the name dont change. Please make your best for it. Thx by advance.Antoine, valade (talk) 08:41, 5 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but the wanted "ZUNO BANK AG" title is on the title blacklist. If you want it to be moved to the correct title, than you have make a requested move on the talk page of the article. Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 08:55, 5 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, thanks for taking the time to review my article on "La Chat". It's my first article, but I am confused about why you feel that the sources are not verifiable. I have used references such as a well-known published book and the allmusic.com guide for her discography, another well respected source (entries are often quoted on Amazon). Are you sure that's not strong enough? I think those sources are much better than a lot of other stuff on wikipedia. Do you think maybe you're being a little too stringent? Thanks for taking the time to check it out. Thanks, Ben — Preceding unsigned comment added by Godtoldmeto (talkcontribs) 11:03, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I believe you reviewed my article, Olis Inc., for submission. I don't believe I had the references set up correctly before, and I'm not sure they are now because my second review came back with the exact same critique, that I had not cited reliable, third-party sources, which I did. Or tried to do. Please help. Lalo1121 (talk) 16:49, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well I took a look at the submission and it looks like you closed the references with <ref> instead of </ref>. Because of this most of the text weren't shown and it looked like it was unreferenced. Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 02:06, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I need your opinion on this!

I asked the users on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Darts but I have not had a response because they are mostly talking about RFC - Use of the Ulster Banner in Darts articles. So I would love to hear your opinion on this. I have added the statistics on the articles of the 2008 World Matchplay Darts, the 2009 World Matchplay Darts, the 2010 Players Championship Finals and the 2011 Players Championship Finals. I also added the highest checkout on those tournaments infobox. Also on those articles and the 2010 World Matchplay Darts, I have added the LWAT (Legs Won Against Throw) section in the statistics table. What do you think? Wonderwizard (talk) 19:54, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well I don't see anything wrong with the use of the Ulster Banner in the tables, as they reflect real life usage within darts. On the other hand it would be good if there was some source for these statistics. This is not just a problem on these articles, but every darts tournament article with these kinds of tables. They have absolutely no sources. Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 01:36, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2011 May newsletter

We're half way through round 3 of the 2011 WikiCup. There are currently 32 remaining in the competition, but only 16 will progress to our penultimate round. Scotland Casliber (submissions), of pool D, is our overall leader with nearly 200 points, while pools A, B and C are led by Texas Racepacket (submissions), Zanzibar Hurricanehink (submissions) and Saskatchewan Canada Hky (submissions) respectively. The score required to reach the next round is 35, though this will no doubt go up significantly as the round progresses. We have a good number of high scorers, but also a considerable number who are yet to score. Please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. Also, an important note concerning nominations at featured article candidates: if you are nominating content for which you intend to claim WikiCup points, please make this clear in the nomination statement so that the FAC director and his delegates are aware of the fact.

A running total of claims can be seen here. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! Files for upload template?

Hi, you added (atm) the last file for upload request a comment to changing the license. Is there a template for that - and if - why is it not in the editnotice of the page? mabdul 07:09, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well currently the template doesn't contain this option, but it could be added to it. Alternatively there is {{subst:ffu|c}} to make original comments for special upload requests, which are not already present. In this case the requester says: "I, the copyright holder of this work, hereby release it into the public domain. This applies worldwide." and assuming good faith he uploaded the image to FlickR, thus if s/he changes the license within one week, than we can upload the file. Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 07:21, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Have added a parameter to the template. Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 07:28, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for these useful links and templates. I will use them ;) Shouldn't these links also added to the header/introduction of the page? I'm also not 100% clear about the license of the request of file Nils Aall Barricelli.jpg. Oh and another question: is there a bot which will update the images in "Recently uploaded"? mabdul 14:28, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Have added {{ffu talk}} to the editnotice. There is no bot, which updates the "Recently uploaded" images, it should be done manually, but recently (it looks like) nobody cares about it. You can find the page for it there, if you want to update it. Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 00:27, 4 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, forgot to answer the question about the Nils Aall Barricelli image. If the upload requester can't prove the license they claim, than the file could be uploaded under {{Non-free historic image}} license with an appropriate non-free rationale, because the person on the picture is deceased. Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 00:32, 4 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Can you check the images for List of nutrition guides and approve or decline them? I'm not familiar and the IP add some comments on that talkpage... mabdul 13:06, 17 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Premier League Snooker

Hi! I see that you have removed the Premier League Snooker from the Snooker season 2011/2012 table, on the basis that it's "not snooker". However, if you read the World Snooker page, in the tenth section it clearly says: "Now entering its record-breaking 26th season, Premier League Snooker is the world's only major snooker tournament played to a league format.". So, since the governing body conciders this to be snooker, why can't you? /Bellatrix9 (talk) 20:17, 6 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Because it use a different rule-set as snooker. It's just doesn't have a name. Would you say that six-red snooker is snooker or a snooker variation. You could create many variants of snooker, but to say that variant of snooker are the same as traditional snooker is simply nonsense. By the way as Premier League Snooker is now in the World Snooker calendar, their website isn't third party. Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 20:25, 6 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Alpine Zither Photo

Hello, I've been trying to upload a thumbnail photo for the table in the "Stringed Instrument Tunings" article for several months now. At your advice I went to the trouble of formatting the photo like that of the other thumbnails in the article, obtaining a "Photobucket" account, and posting the photo. Now I see the upload request was declined because the photo was "too low quality"?? Please note, this is a *thumbnail* intended to go in a tiny box in an existing *table* in the article. If you *look at the article* you will see that the photo I provided is *the same quality* as those other photos already in the table. See, for example, the other zither illustration already in the article. Mine is of comparable quality. If I upload a higher resolution photo it won't fit in the available space. Please check out the article and reconsider. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.92.174.105 (talk) 20:20, 14 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well maybe you don't know, but Wikipedia can scale down the images for every use. For example the first image has a resolution of 266 × 670 and is shown in the table as a thumbnail with the following code: [[Image:Sallas.jpg|50px]]. By the way I didn't suggest you to register at Photobucket, because it doesn't store license information. There I said FlickR. Regards. Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 16:04, 17 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Snooker Scene

Are you still looking for Snooker Scene editions Armbrust? There is a new editor working on the Fred Davis (snooker player) article and he has referenced dozens of Snooker Scene articles going back to 1976. It may be worth asking him if he can source the results that you need for the Steve Davis article. It seems like fate, that you put in a request at resource exchange and then someone shows up and starts adding loads of snooker scene references to an article, a Davis article no less! Betty Logan (talk) 01:00, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the info. Yes, as the The CueSport Book of Professional Snooker doesn't contain this information and the article should latter become GA with this tournament included too. Image moves

When you request deletion of image redirects, it would be better to give {{db-r3}} as the deletion reason rather than {{db-g7}}. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 13:20, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe, but there is at least one admin, who misreads r3. Many of such speedy deletion requests were declined with the rationale, that the image wasn't uploaded recently, despite the fact that the redirect was just created less 2 minutes earlier. See for example this. The redirect was created on 23:41, 27 June 2011, and than Nyttend (talk · contribs) claim in his edit summary, that "It's a five-year-old redirect". (Note the file was uploaded at 01:01, 15 August 2006) I use g7 because in this case, I'm more confident, that the redirect will be really deleted. Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 13:57, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have never understood the "recently created" bit of R3. I never check before deleting a redirect that I think is inappropriate. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 19:50, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2011 June newsletter

We are half way through 2011, and entering the penultimate round of this year's WikiCup; the semi-finals are upon us! Points scored in the interim (29/30 June) may be counted towards next round, but please do not update your submissions' pages until the next round has begun. 16 contestants remain, and all have shown dedication to the project to reach this far. Our round leader was Scotland Casliber (submissions) who, among other things, successfully passed three articles through featured article candidates and claimed an impressive 29 articles at Did You Know, scoring 555 points. Casliber led pool D. Pool A was led by Ohio Wizardman (submissions), claiming points for a featured article, a featured list and seven good article reviews, while pool C was led by Norway Eisfbnore (submissions), who claimed for two good articles, ten articles at Did You Know and four good article reviews. They scored 154 and 118 respectively. Pool B was by far our most competitive pool; six of the eight competitors made it through to round 4, with all of them scoring over 100 points. The pool was led by Zanzibar Hurricanehink (submissions), who claimed for, among other things, three featured articles and five good articles. In addition to the four pool leaders, 12 others (the four second places, and the 8 next highest overall) make up our final 16. The lowest scorer who reached round 4 scored 76 points; a significant increase on the 41 needed to reach round 3. Eight of our semi-finalists scored at least twice as much as this.

No points were awarded this round for featured pictures, good topics or In the News, and no points have been awarded in the whole competition for featured topics, featured portals or featured sounds. Instead, the highest percentage of points has come from good articles. Featured articles, despite their high point cost, are low in number, and so, overall, share a comparable number of points with Did You Know, which are high in number but low in cost. A comparatively small but still considerable number of points come from featured lists and good article reviews, rounding out this round's overall scores.

We would again like to thank United Kingdom Jarry1250 (submissions) and Bavaria Stone (submissions) for invaluable background work, as well as all of those helping to provide reviews for the articles listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Please do keep using it, and please do help by providing reviews for the articles listed there. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews generally at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup.

Two final notes: Firstly, please remember to state your participation in the WikiCup when nominating articles at FAC. Finally, some WikiCup-related statistics can be seen here and here, for those interested, though it appears that neither are completely accurate at this time. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! While it undoubtedly fits the requirements written for CSD G8, it seems to me that the best way to handle this page is to move it into the mainspace. The page is currently under discussion for deletion at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Talk:2011 Alaska earthquake, which is the only reason I didn't actually move it into the mainspace. Feel free to make any comments you want in the discussion. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 12:42, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

2011 Asian Athletics Championships

Hey Armbrust is it possible if you can add the Asian Athletics championships results to the Current Sports events portal. Thanks. Intoronto1125TalkContributions 03:58, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Have added the results from 7 July to the portal. After the article is updated I will add the remaining days too. Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 04:22, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, why did you request deletion of the image File:Brown College logo.jpg? It was in use on Residential colleges of Rice University. John Vandenberg (chat) 07:51, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well at the time I requested the deletion of the file (sometime before 03:49, 3 July 2011), the file was not used on that article. Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 11:52, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No, I don't mind. You can undelete the picture if you want. Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 12:45, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a reason why the results for the water polo matches at the 2011 World Aquatics Championships are not up on the current sports events? Intoronto1125TalkContributions 15:23, 17 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Don't know. Maybe is has too many matches and only the medal matches will be included. But if you want to be sure, than you should probably ask at Portal talk:Current events/Sports. Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 10:08, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Judge Parker entries

I just noticed that you denied the two images I suggested for submission to the Judge Parker (comic strip) entry at Wikipedia, because there are two images already on the site. However, one is of Diego Barreto, who filled in for his father, Eduardo, when he was ill. So, if you won't add an entry, can we take out his example and substitute with one that I just submitted (Eduardo Barreto's Judge Parker). Also, I submitted an image of Judge Parker by Mike Manley, the current artist of Judge Parker. If this cannot be used on the Judge Parker entry, how about on the entry for Mike Manley at Wikipedia? Same would go for Eduardo Barreto's entry at Wikipedia. Thanks! Morris2530 (talk) 17:00, 18 July 2011 (UTC)Morris2530[reply]

See my comments at files for upload. Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 19:05, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I was only trying to add images of their work on their entries on Wikipedia. They are artists. Both have drawn Judge Parker. Manley has been the artist on Judge Parker since March of 2010. As for the other two images at the Judge Parker entry, the one image of Diego Barreto's work on Judge Parker, is not a true representation of Judge Parker. He barely filled in on Judge Parker, for his father. The image should be exchanged with one of his father's, Eduardo Barreto. If you are deleting them for copyright issues, then explain how the other two images remain? They are both from the syndicate and their are free use images of the comic are on other sites. Just trying to make correct the Judge Parker, Mike Manley and Eduardo Barreto's entries. Thanks! Morris2530 (talk) 19:23, 18 July 2011 (UTC)Morris2530[reply]
The current images remain in the article because they are used and are not replaced because for the article it isn't relevant, who drew the pictures. The other pictures aren't uploaded because non-free content should be used sparingly and two is simply enough for this article. If you think some pictures should replaced than you should start a discussion on the talk page of the Judge Parker article and reach consensus for it. Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 19:32, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Okay...last question. Why can't either image (art) suggestion be used on their respective entries? For Mike Manley (artist) and Eduardo Barreto? The images on their entries would depict their work from a visual aspect. Morris2530 (talk) 20:33, 18 July 2011 (UTC)Morris2530[reply]
Because non-free images aren't allowed for the purpose of illustration. This way they would violate the non-free content criteria, especially #8: contextual significance. Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 20:36, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

2 questions

Hi, I tried deleting the page I made (The Bible On Film (book)) by hitting {{DB - AUTHOR}}, but nothing happened. Could you please delete it? Also, I made a page called Hank Williams: The Show He Never Gave. Could you review it to see if it should be deleted? Thank you. Abbythecat (talk) 21:17, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well I have nominated the first page for speedy deletion for you. The error happened as you wrote the name of the template incorrect. The correct template is: {{db-author}}. I have reviewed the Hank Williams: The Show He Never Gave article, and although it has currently no reliable sources this alone doesn't merit a rationale for deletion. I have marked the page with {{unreferenced}}. Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 21:29, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry I did that template wrong; thank you for your help. Abbythecat (talk) 23:14, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

M/C Partners new logo--seeking guidance on resolution

Hi, I submitted a request to have the logo on the M/C Venture Partners site updated to reflect their new name: M/C Partners. Your feedback was that the file was too low quality. Are there any guidelines on image size/resolution you can provide me so that I can get an appropriately-sized file from the designer? Also--we need to move this page from M/C Venture Partners to a new article called M/C Partners. Any guidance you can provide as to how to accomplish that would be most appreciated. Thank you. Lesliellen (talk) 19:51, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well there is no official guideline to image resolution if you want to upload a file by yourself. But at the files for upload the image should have at least a 200x200 resolution. In theory there is a maximum resolution for non-free images, but this wouldn't be a problem, as the image can be resized. Moved article to new name. (By the way you can only move pages, if you're account is at least 4 days old and you made 10 edits. For further information see: How to move a page.) Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 20:02, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the page move, the info and the recommended reading! The file I uploaded was 3000x2400 and about 3MB (at least before I uploaded it), so I'm going to need to investigate why it uploaded at such a low resolution. If you have any pointers in that area, please let me know. Lesliellen (talk) 21:18, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well I don't know, but you have given this link in the request. The only picture about the logo is this. Note that I haven't searched through the entire website for the logo. It would be good if you could give a direct link to the file, which should be uploaded. Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 21:40, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Return of Billy Jack

Quick question: not long ago I created a page called The Return of Billy Jack. I later self-deleted it. I now think this was a mistake. Is there a way that it can be restored? Can you put it back up? Or do I rewrite it? Thanks. Abbythecat (talk) 03:54, 22 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

1994 World Snooker Championship

The source for my change to the article "1994 World Snooker Championship" is a 3-hour video with the last 11 frames of the Hendry-White final, which I have downloaded from a Russian website: http://rutracker.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2746826 The name of the video is (in Cyrillic characters) "Концовка легендарного финала ЧМ 1994 года против джимми Уайта.rmvb" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.41.103.17 (talk) 20:20, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but I have to say, that this video isn't a reliable source as it comes from a unreliable website (a forum). Nobody can check, that this video isn't modified in a way, that it contains false scores. Without a reliable source you shouldn't add the scores. Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 20:24, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This is not a forum. It's a torrent site (the biggest in Russia and very reliable). You can download that video and check it for yourself, if you don't believe me. Nobody could have possibly modified several hundreds of shots. I don't know what can be more reliable than the actual recording of the event. You can watch it (in bad quality) here as well: http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XMjIyNDY5MDAw.html. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.41.103.17 (talk) 20:42, 23 July 2011
That it is a torrent site and not a forum doesn't change the fact, that it isn't reliable. If you think otherwise you should bring your source at the reliable source noticeboard for further consideration, but I doubt this will give the result you want. Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 20:50, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds like paranoia. I gave you already two links to the actual RECORDING of the final. Anybody can watch it and see the scores for himself, unless he is blind or does not believe his own eyes. Still, you insist that "this is not a reliable source". What source do you want? An affidavit from Hendry of White stating that those scores are real? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.41.103.17 (talk) 21:02, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I want a reliable source, which you currently doesn't provide. Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 21:10, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You apparently are not listening to me. I told you several times to watch that video. Watch it and see for yourself how reliable it is. You can also ask the CIA to make a report on its authenticity, if you want. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.41.103.17 (talk) 21:16, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You're reasoning isn't convincing. Videos are only considered reliable if the come from reliable sources, however torrent sites and (generally) video sharing sites aren't considered reliable by Wikipedia standard. Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 21:20, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
OK, Mr. Hairsplitter, thank you for "convincing" arguments. From now on, I won't believe my own eyes just for the reason they are not a "reliable source" according to Wikipedia standards. Cheers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.41.103.17 (talk) 21:25, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Just saw it, see this: "However, audio, video, and multimedia materials that have been recorded then broadcast, distributed, or archived by a reputable third-party may also meet the necessary criteria to be considered reliable source" How in the world is a video of the actual event not a reliable source? Kante4 (talk) 20:13, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
And how can we know that the uploader to this torrent site hasn't modified the video? There is also the problem that television many times doesn't show final frame score, as they change too quick to advertising. How can we know, that the video contains the real final score? That the last shot wasn't a foul? If this didn't occur during a century break, than it isn't mentioned later. Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 20:53, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Just wow... I consider this a reliable source, torrent sites just upload the recorded tv show/event/whatever so quickly most of the time that there is no time to modify it and i never seen someone edit every single shot or just 10 at a snooker match. Have to agree with the user with the IP Adress above in some facts. Kante4 (talk) 21:17, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
And how can you point about quickness applied to a 1994 video? And by the way you didn't even answer the second part of my comment. Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 21:19, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I just wanted to point out that a video is a source we can trust, nothing more. I don´t know what the matter is exactly but to say a video is not reliable is laughable, sorry. We know you get sensitive when someone edits a snooker article but please... Like i said, nothing against you what so ever, just wanted to say that a video is a source. Kante4 (talk) 21:41, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the video is a source, but if it doesn't come from a reputable publisher, which torrent sites aren't, than we can't consider this reliable either. This is the same that Youtube isn't a reliable source either. Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 21:45, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I know this is asking a lot, but...

If you have the time, could you review 4 pages I just made? They are: Pat Paulsen's Half a Comedy Hour, Walking Tall (TV series), A Real American Hero (TV movie) and Tear Drop City (song). I'm curious if you think they should be deleted, and if I'm doing these correctly. Or if you can add to them. With Tear Drop City (song), for instance, I couldn't create an "Infobox". Just asking -- any help appreciated. Abbythecat. Abbythecat (talk) 01:32, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well lets see. Every article you created lacks references. Note that "TV.COM" and "IMBD.COM" aren't proper references, just like for example "GOOGLE.COM" isn't either. References should be links, where the subject of the article is discussed in detail and users, who want to verify that the information referenced in the article, don't need to search through the website to find it. I suggest reading referencing for beginners. It looks to, that all pages are notable, they just need improvement with addition of reliable sources as inline citations. For the use of the single infobox you should read it's documentation. There you can find the code of the template and how to use the parameters of the template. By the way the template should be placed at the top of the article. Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 07:39, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your kindness and time. I'll try following your advice. Please feel free to nominate any of these pages for deletion -- it won't hurt my feelings or anything. If I'm unable to add anything to the pages, would you suggest I nominate them for "self deletion"? Again, thanks. Abbythecat.Abbythecat (talk) 23:05, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think any of the articles should be nominated for deletion. Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 07:34, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

nerdtorious page

Hey there, I'm an intern at nerdtorious.com and was told inquire how to further solidify this entry. Though the site itself hasn't been cited in other sources, it has had many notable persons both featured and contributing to it. Mr. Ma himself has had a very extensive writing career and this is one of his outlets. Rather than link to Mr. Ma himself, the nerdtorious page links to his other works, acting as an entry to his info as well as the site itself. Is there anyway to have this entry without the proper 3rd party citations? Any direction would be helpful. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by D021680 (talkcontribs) 09:33, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have to say, that in order to pass the general notability guideline you submission needs sources which are independent of the subject. This excludes works produced by those affiliated with the subject or its creator. For example, self-publicity, advertising, self-published material by the subject, autobiographies, and press releases are not considered independent. WikiCup 2011 July newsletter

We are half way through the penultimate round of this year's WikiCup; there is less than a month to go before we have our final 8. Our pool leaders are New Zealand Adabow (submissions) (Pool A, 189 points) and Russia PresN (submissions) (Pool B, 165 points). The number of points required to reach the next round is not clear at this time; there are some users who still do not have any recorded points. Please remember to update your submissions' pages promptly. In addition, congratulations to PresN, who scored the first featured topic points in the competition for his work on Thatgamecompany related articles. Most points this round generally have, so far, come from good articles, with only one featured article (White-bellied Sea Eagle, from Scotland Casliber (submissions)) and two featured lists (Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story, from PresN and Grammy Award for Best Native American Music Album, from Another Believer (submissions)). Points for Did You Know and good article reviews round out the scoring. No points have been awarded for In the News, good topics or featured pictures this round, and no points for featured sounds or portals have been awarded in the entire competition. On an unrelated note, preparation will be beginning soon for next year's WikiCup- watch this space!

There is little else to be said beyond the usual. Please list anything you need reviewing on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, so others following the WikiCup can help, and please do help if you can by providing reviews for the articles listed there. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews generally at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup- points are, of course, offered for reviews at GAC. Two final notes: Firstly, please remember to state your participation in the WikiCup when nominating articles at FAC. Finally, some WikiCup-related statistics can be seen here and here. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! Every file, which claims a free license at files for upload, needs a license link. Without it the file can't be uploaded. There is also the problem, that if you made the photo during your work for this company, that it is possible you're not the copyright holder, but the company. According to this the company claims copyright. Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 08:46, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Norwegian roadsigns

Thanks for the moved message. As you have read it, it is really bad for such a reaction. Don't know. The images could be corrected. I have tried to clean one arrow and it worked, but it would take too much time for me and I don't want to do it. Maybe someone at the Graphic lab could clean up the images. And I agree with you that png isn't superior. I think, that the IP's point was, that accuracy of the images is more important than the svg format. (By the way the png files aren't available through the previous download link.) Mark II handpump

Hello! Thanks for looking at the Mark II hand pump article. I disagree with your editing of the title from "India Mark II hand pump" to "Mark II hand pump." The use of "India" in the title is appropriate since there really is no such thing as just a Mark II hand pump. In fact, "Mark II" in this case is used to mean model #2 - the second rendition of the India pump. The pump was designed and is predominately manufactured in India but is used around the world and referred to around the world as the India Mark II. Removing India, in this case, will cause confusion. Thanks! Gregoryc03 (talk) 02:04, 5 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well I have to say that the way you moved all the content from the Mark II hand pump to "India Mark II" is inappropriate and is called "copy-and-paste page move", which violates policy. I made this edit, because the page was a redirect to a non-existent page and this way could be speedily deleted per G8. Moved article to correct title. Hi - I wrote the page Good Clean Fun (song). I've nominated it for self-deletion. I've blanked it. I'm hoping you can get a speedy deletion for it. I have requested the same from Fineman. I won't go into it again, but the page was ruined by Pinkadelica, who took out the only line in it that gave the page meaning. All that was left was worthless garbage a chimp could write. I don't want to be associated with this trash in any way. I know Wikipedia owns the page now, but I hope you are good enough not to keep a page that the author of it wants to be deleted. I can't imagine Wikipedia keeping a page "hostage" if you will. I have tried to contact Pinkadelica (again!) but I can no longer get to her/his talk page. Sorry to bother you with this, but I do hope for a speedy deletion, and I hope this page never comes back again. Without the essential line, it is pure 100% junk. As I told Fineman, if the page resurfaces, I want no credit for it. I disavow it. I disown it. The whole point of it was to explain the meaning of the song, that it has a surprise twist ending. My line was ..."At the end, the last line ("I told you I'd come back, here I am") is sung in a menacing voice, giving the tune a surprising sadistic tone". With this line gone, what's left is meaningless crap that a 2-year old would be ashamed to write. So I hope it is deleted forever. If not, don't blame me, please, for this piece of garvage. Thanks. And, as always, "ATTABOY, LUTHOR!" Abbythecat.Abbythecat (talk) 07:09, 8 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but I have to say, that the article isn't eligible for speedy deletion. {{db-author}} doesn't apply because other editors made significant edits to it (and the talk page was created by an other user). {{db-a9}} doesn't apply because the there is an article for the artist. You can do two things, if you think the song isn't notable: prod it or nominate it for deletion. (But please don't use any of the two processes just to make a point.) By the way Wikipedia has a notability guideline on songs, you can find it there. Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 08:17, 8 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the kind and helpful reply. I guess I did over-react a bit. My apologies. Best. AbbythecatAbbythecat (talk) 22:50, 8 August 2011 (UTC).[reply]

Welcome Page

Hallo Armbrust, ich suche eine Auswahl an englischen Willkommen's Seiten, wo finde ich die in der englischen Wikipedia? --Cypernaut ?! M 09:10, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 09:37, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ich dachte an so etwas Benutzer_Diskussion:ImWalde--Cypernaut ?! M 12:08, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ach du meintest also willkommen's templates. Diese kannst du in Category:Welcome templates finden. En.Wikipedia hat auch einen Welcoming Comitee, who du dich anschließen kannst (wenn du wills). Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 13:18, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free file resolution

Hi, can you explain me (since i didn't found any page explaining it to me) when I should shrink a non-free image or when placing the non-free reduce-template for the bot? Are there any general advises how big/in which quality the image should be? I thought that the last image is/was small enough. mabdul 13:41, 11 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If you mean File:A Separate Peace cover.jpg, than it has the right size. You have already reduced the size of the file, I just marked the old revision for deletion. By the way at {{Non-free image data/doc}} it says to the "low resolution" parameter: "The rule of thumb for raster images is no more than 300 pixels in width or height, which ensures that the image's resolution is less than 0.1 megapixels." I can't find any other place though were this is mentioned. Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 14:05, 11 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
PS: In the future please open a new section if your concern only marginally/don't connects to a previous section. Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 14:09, 11 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
MMh, okay. Thanks. I will next time place such a template on pages. I saw too late that there was a white border around the image. I will also try to add a better rational for the fair use. Thanks again. mabdul 15:48, 11 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh and something to the uploaded image: the max is 300x300px, but the actual image has 311×475px, so it should be shrinked even more. Isn't there a bot for such tasks? If so, what tagging the image for reducing the image more. mabdul 15:50, 11 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Not necessarily. I mean this isn't a guideline and I remember DASHBot (talk · contribs) reduces images that either the width or the hight is under 400 pixels. Maybe the documentation of the template is out of date, don't know. Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 16:36, 11 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Gavin Degraw Photo Upload

Hello there, Can you please tell me who the upload should come from? Since the copyright is held by a company (sony) how (in wiki) does one designate themselves the copyright holder for a corporation? Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Warnberh (talkcontribs) 18:03, 15 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but I don't know. I think you should ask this question at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 20:34, 15 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Quinnebaug II Photo (1888)

Dear Armbrust! Thank you for your fast review and input to my upload! I am sorry but a search does not show any date for the photographer's death and I am not sure what would be a reliable source as in all likelihood this would have occurred in Spain (?). Is there some other vehicle for getting this photograph included in the article? I am not sure how to go about proving the status of a photograph from 1888. Thank you for your input and guidance. Lee — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.18.114.175 (talk) 15:08, 18 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! The problem is that you claim, that the author of the photo has died more than 100 year ago, but it isn't even clear who tha author is and when he died. I could upload the file, but if somebody would nominate it at files for deletion, than without this information it would most likely be deleted. There is no sense to upload an image, which certainly would be deleted. You could ask for more guidance at the Media copyright questions noticeboard. PTC 3 Draw

Apparently the PTC 3 draw on World Snooker is wrong! They can be absolutely useless sometimes! Samasnookerfan (talk) 21:56, 18 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

At least it looks that way, but what can we do. For now I go with the official version and if they release a corrected version, than I will correct the article too. Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 21:45, 18 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Not a lot. Anyway thanks for the continuing excellent work on the snooker tournament pages. I look on here before anyway to see the latest draws. Samasnookerfan (talk) 21:56, 18 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Now fixed. It took them quite a wile to realise they messed up with the new system for creating draws. (However I also have to say that this draw doesn't contain info regarding the opponents of players playing preliminary rounds. For example it only says "Mark Williams vs. Qualifier".) File Naming

Hi. I am looking for a little advice. The image File:Afkl1.jpg is of a Air France and a KLM vertical stabilizer. I dont think the title is a good one to be honest. What would be a suitable name for this please? Would it be simply Air France & KLM vertical stabilizers.jpg? Many Thanks --JetBlast (talk) 23:18, 20 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I think "Air France & KLM vertical stabilizers.jpg" would be a very good name for this file. Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 23:27, 20 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much, I am looking for some guidance on files names but cant seem to find it. I must be me or something, please can you point be in the right direction of this page? Thanks --JetBlast (talk) 23:44, 20 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Have you read Wikipedia:Image file names already? I can't find any other one. Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 23:51, 20 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I spotted that, thought there would be something else as well. I assume you would just use common sense. Thanks for all your help --JetBlast (talk) 23:57, 20 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
File:Afkl1.jpg has been moved to File:Air France & KLM vertical stabilizers.jpg as per request. SMasters (talk) 03:10, 21 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

1994 World Snooker Championship II

Hey I know this was a while ago but the 24th July edits here were not vandalism. The original broadcast commentary is a reliable enough account of the scores the way I interpret things (and whether or not you personally think it was reliable is a non-issue, it's a potentially reliable source so the edits weren't vandalism). You went through the 3RR three times over that day! Mato (talk) 16:24, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well that's your opinion. The IP repeatedly inserted information without a reliable source. Youtube and torrent sites doesn't count as reliable sources. Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 16:36, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm saying the IP's opinion (one which others shared) was that the video was a reliable source, therefore his edits were in good faith and are not vandalism. It doesn't constitute vandalism and so the 3RR still applies. Mato (talk) 16:37, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
My opinion was shared by 2 admins: Materialscientist (talk · contribs) blocked the first IP address that added the unsourced information as Disruptive editing: addition of unsourced information ignoring warnings and Mifter (talk · contribs) protected the page due to ersistent vandalism. And what do you want to say with this? Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 16:51, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The IP was blocked for disruptive editing, not vandalism. Please read WP:NOTVANDALISM. Disruptive editing is NOT vandalism, and WP:3RR still applies. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by your 'opinion was shared by 2 admins'. Mato (talk) 17:06, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
