Wang Lee-Hom's SAT

Hey Arsonal, I hope all is well with you. Just wanted to let you know, I raised a question here and wouldn't mind hearing your opinion if you have a moment. Thanks, Politizer talk/contribs 04:13, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with File:4inlove band.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:4inlove band.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --FairuseBot (talk) 04:40, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

WikiProject Star Wars invitation

I have noticed that you are listed as a member of the Star Wars WikiProject, which has been defunct for a long time. I would like to inform you that I am attempting to revitalize it. As such, I would officially like to invite you to participate in the project once again. If you are interested, please sign your name at Wikipedia Talk:WikiProject Star Wars#February 2009 Roll Call. Hope to see you soon! Firestorm (talk) 03:54, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Wang Lee-Hom

An IP is edit-warring at Lee-Hom Wang, changing the naming without discussion and rewriting the intro. To be honest, I am not totally averse to changing the naming (Lee-Hom Wang is not an English name anyway, so I see no problem in going with the more common Wang Lee-Hom) but it does need to be discussed, and the rewriting of the intro and removing sources from there is just unnecessary. Anyway, if you're available, I would appreciate your input there. Thanks, rʨanaɢ talk/contribs (formerly Politizer) 17:50, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

Indonesian legislative election, 2009

Hi. I see you added a couple of sections in the Indonesian legislative election, 2009 article and tagged them for needing expansion. I agree the "Controversies" section needs more info, particularly regarding the various incompetencies (is that a word?) of the General Elections Commission (KPU) such as the problems with the electoral roll (especially disenfranchised voters), the campaign schedule (which was changed after it was underway), the slow and inconsistent count (although the "inconsistent" bit will be difficult to cite while avoiding WP:OR) and the post-results announcement changes to seats allocation, but I am not sure what you had in mind for the "Polling day" section. Apart from the vote (which I documented in a now-deleted photo gallery) and the fact there wasn't any trouble, not much happened - although it was a nice sunny day :-) If you can offer some suggestions for that section, I'll have a look for some info. Regards. Davidelit (talk) 15:34, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Hello! Thanks for the comment. I was following the model of United States presidential election, 2008 when I added the election day section. However, seeing as there was nothing much to report, that section is probably unnecessary now. Perhaps we can just add the bit about KPU taking an official time period to count the vote results and would not announce the official tally until 9 May. This will give a nicer chronological flow to the article. Arsonal (talk) 15:55, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Hello! Your submission of Indonesian legislative election, 2004 at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 23:00, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Politics of Indonesia template...

Hi there . I'm just wondering why you deem it "unnecessary" to have this template. Ie, here. could you explain please. thanks. --Merbabu (talk) 02:13, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

"Selected Publications"

With reference to your edit here, standards on wikipedia have changed, however, much of the old still remains. Now it is expected that high quality articles use in-line citations rather than a general list at the bottom.I note that your change adds both in-line cites (good) and "Selected Publications". However, I know there is a lot of the old still hanging around - look at the list of refs in Suharto. Were these publications you added used to actually reference the work? If so, they should be added as in-line citations. If not, they should not be added as you have - this is where expectations have risen. I've removed them for now - if they were directly used for the article that's great, but could you please add them as in-line cites. thanks for the good work. cheers --Merbabu (talk) 07:45, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

Oh - they're his publications. SOrry - i thought they were references to support the wikipedia article. hmmm. i will get back you on that. --Merbabu (talk) 07:52, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

Thanks

Your moving Indonesian spelling titles to english is appreciated - thanks SatuSuro 08:02, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

Well, hang on - I think it is important to be careful on this issue. It should not always be done. Proper nouns are problematic. For example, the translation of Seputar Indonesia into ENglish appears to be a wikipedia created title and hence, original research. Who knows it as "Around Indonesia"? (although we could say that this is what it means which is different to using this as the title). One the other hand, Universitas Indonesia => University of Indonesia is probably fair enough. --Merbabu (talk) 08:33, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
Yes, you can't exactly apply English translation into everything. Moving articles on Indonesian topics should be looked at on a case by case basis. Arsonal (talk) 08:38, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
I was very specifically referring to recent moves by arsonal - not in general - and I refuse to be drawn into the damned Indonesian TV stations and network articles/lists issue - I havent seen anyone go in and make them proper articles anyways - they are garbage waiting for disposal as far as I am concerned - as long as their Indonesian names are given redirects - there is no need to get too worked up about them - I am concerned that leaving Indonesian university articles with their indonesian spelling and or names is encouraging english challenged eds to come in and further their cause for extensive Indonesian spelling in English wikipedia - SatuSuro 11:25, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

Huh?

When you remove large amounts of text like you did at Wahids article - you cut out category and refs ? Huh?

Please use edit summaries to explain what you are doing - thanks SatuSuro 08:34, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Supersemar

Hi. Thanks for the heads-up about the Supersemar picture. There is a link to the same picture from the French Wikipedia Supersemar article, see here. I would love to know where these pictures came from: it is different from both (!) versions in "30 Tahun Indonesia Merdeka" jilid 3. Given that the original was typed, it appears to be a more recent fake as it was clearly printed with full justification - all the lines are the same length. Does that make it a fake of a fake? Regards Davidelit (talk) 14:28, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

"I've been meaning to go back there anyway" - I'm mad with jealousy - I could spend months there and never leave if I ever got the chance to visit!!! While you're there, check out "30 Tahun..." in Volume 3, it has pictures of the "Supersemar" on pages 77 and 91 - but they are different versions! This "mistake" was corrected when "40 Tahun Indonesia Merdeka" was issued. The pictures in volume 2 on pages 568 and 582 show the same document. Looks like the Orde Baru propaganda machine slipped up :-) Davidelit (talk) 15:08, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
Wow, thanks for the offer. Anything you come across on the 1959 dismissal of Suharto as Pangdam Diponegoro, the 1957 local election results (in which the PKI did very well) or the 1st October 1965 edition of Harian Rakyat (with the pro-G30S cartoon) would really be of service to Wikipedia. And of course, if you discover the original of the Supersemar :-D Hope you don't regret your very generous offer...Davidelit (talk) 16:45, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
Thanks very much for going to the trouble of photographing and e-mailing the book pages. The 1957 election data will end up improving the Communist Party of Indonesia article among others. Much appreciated. I'll stand you a nasi padang next time you're in Jakarta. By the way, yes, I have the Pambudi book. Regards Davidelit (talk) 16:23, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Wiki project classes and Chinese-language entertainment

I noticed on the Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Chinese-language entertainment page that you classed WP:TAIWAN and WP:CHINA differently. What is the reason for this and what does the distinction mean?

WP China does not have a "Project" option for its "class" parameter. Using it would give me an error until I get a chance to fix the actual template. Arsonal (talk) 22:45, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

S.H.E. main page nomination

I removed the nom because it does not have enough points to replace an existing nomination. Sorry. Dabomb87 (talk) 19:22, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

So I'm confused. Am I allowed to renominate this for the date when there's a slot open (and if it doesn't get replaced)? Arsonal (talk) 19:31, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
You can nominate it when a) there's less than 5 nominations on WP:TFAR or b) when this article has more points than an article already on the requests page. Dabomb87 (talk) 19:42, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Actually, it's not quite true to say I want to revisit the convention question. While I don't entirely agree with your convention, it's a reasonable convention and it's close enough to NPOV that I don't think it's worth re-opening the can of worms. My recent posts are more geared toward making sure that any future changes to the convention are not driven solely by Wikipedia:WikiProject China, whose editors will tend to have a Chinese nationalist POV and may ignore or not consider the POV that Taiwan is not part of China. Readin (talk) 23:40, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for clarifying. I believe the reason we followed the convention of WP:China at the time was because we were a task force under them before becoming a full-fledged WikiProject. Regardless, your concern is noted. Thanks for the help. Arsonal (talk) 21:49, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Summer Wars citation: Herald Business review

I noticed while working on the article last night that the Herald Business review you cited is giving a malware warning whenever I try to visit it. Based on the information you incorporated, it seems like a good source that benefits the article, but I'm worried about getting that warning whenever I try to follow the reference link, so I wanted to check with you to be sure everything is in order. Thanks. - LainEverliving LainEverloving (talk) 23:51, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Hm... I'm getting that warning too. It wasn't there when I first accessed the site from the school computer. As far as I can recall, there wasn't much on the article that wasn't a repeat of what has been said before though. Arsonal (talk) 05:16, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
Since you added the source, I'll let you decide if you want to keep it or not. But if you're getting the warning, then probably the site isn't safe, and shouldn't be listed. If you want to wait a day and see if anything changes, be my guest, but given the fact that we're both seeing the message, probably you should remove the listing. I can start looking to see if I can get the Korean release information from somewhere else. - LainEverliving LainEverloving (talk) 07:19, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
I'll check it again from the school computer and see if I can get an archived version. Arsonal (talk) 07:39, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I see you're still having fun in the Cornell Library... You may be interested to know that there is a copy of the typewritten version of the Cornell report in the Indonesian National Library, and that it has since been translated into Indonesian and published under the title Kudeta 1 Oktober 1965: Sebuah Analisis Awal. Incidentally, I am putting together info for an article on Untung Syamsuri. I am still loking for a reference on the date and manner of his death. I presume the death sentence was carried out, but do you happen to know when? Davidelit (Talk) 15:19, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

I see it in WorldCat catalog, a recent 2001 translation. Unfortunately, Cornell doesn't have a copy of it (but does have 2 copies of the 1971 publication and the original 1966 report). Both the 1966 and 1971 versions are typewritten, and there's no difference between the two other than the additional introduction and preface, so no worries there. I will have to look around to see if there are any reliable English sources on Untung. I haven't tried looking yet. You can check the Indonesian article to see if you can reconstruct it. It says he was executed in 1969 but without a specific date. Arsonal (talk) 16:24, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
You've gotta love Indonesian Wikipedia - there are four external links, 3 dead and one to a blog. I found a reference in Hughes saying he was executed in 1967, so that's what the article says for now... Davidelit (Talk) 16:58, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

SM Britama Roster

Some players in the SM Britama play only in one league, either ABL or IBL. The team has separate rosters for the two leagues, as far as I know. Maybe this must be confirmed beforehand, but I suggest that notes be included to indicate whether a player plays on only one league, to avoid confusion, especially since the article stresses the team's participation both in the ABL and the IBL. Summer Wars: Wanna Go for a Good Rating?

Hello Arsonal. You may recognize me from the Summer Wars article work.

I was wondering if you wanted to try and do some joint work on it to get it to Good ranking by the end of the year. Since we've basically been the only ones doing any significant work on it, I figured maybe we could try and collaborate on improving it further. I will be busy with university work through the next few months, but I can contribute some time, and I'm always doing research for updates regarding the movie. If you're interested, let me know and we can try and do something with it. Personally, I think it's already a good part of the ways there.

Best, LainEverliving LainEverloving (talk) 04:04, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

I don't think nominating it is a problem. We'll have to wait until the article is a bit more stable, but I think the coverage and prose quality is already good enough for a GA. The problem is getting someone to review the nomination because the GA process is lacking reviewers at the moment. Arsonal (talk) 18:35, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
Okay, sounds good. You want to wait until the end of November (for the last festival competition)? By then, I'm sure all the final box office numbers will be in, and maybe we can add a picture or two. Also, maybe by that time there will be more attention for GA reviews. Thanks for the "Massacre" Discussion

Hey Arsonal, Thanks for the debate and perspective over in the Virginia Tech Massacre talk page. I appreciate a good healthy discussion. Hope you'll ping me if I'm out of line -- being a Wikipedia noob and all, I just want to make sure that I'm participating in the right way.

Thanks! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Possum4all (talkcontribs) 07:04, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

You're not out of line at all. Thanks for approaching me and for being open to feedback. Arsonal (talk) 07:16, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for doing the archive ! It can be quite frustrating having to do it every day. Are you new to ITN, as I haven't seen you there before? Thanks again, (and a welcome if required),  Cargoking  talk  13:23, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

You're welcome! I'm a bit new there, yes. Only started perusing the area semi-regularly a few days ago. Arsonal (talk) 13:30, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
It's great to have fresh blood in ITN. Apart from the fact of been under resourced and has small numbers, sometimes regulars can get a bit iffy.  Cargoking  talk  13:45, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

I also noticed that you qualify for the Triple crown
Thank you for the barnstar. :) I guess I do qualify for triple crown. It's been a long time since I first saw that page, so I kinda forgot about it. Arsonal (talk) 22:48, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

ITN

Hi, I see you have taken on the archiving duties at ITN recently. I wanted to run an idea past you before suggesting it elsewhere. What if each day's candidates were on a separate page (e.g. Wikipedia:In the news/Candidates/5 Dec 2009) and the last 7 days were automatically transcluded, using parser functions, on Wikipedia:In the news/Candidates. That would avoid the need for archiving and it would also leave the history of the page intact. It might also make it easier to create new days because we can use preload templates, etc. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 12:58, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

It might be worth the effort as that would definitely simplify things. I'm not sure if there are any guidelines to archive management, but if having an individual page for each day does not affect current functionality, I don't see why not. I'm a bit new to ITN, so you may also want to get the opinion of Cargoking who was doing it for a bit longer before me. He may be able to raise some points I'm not thinking about. Arsonal (talk) 13:58, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
I have pinged him - hopefully he'll give his opinion. The only difference in functionality would be that each new comment would not show up on people's watchlists as they would be on separate pages. Indeed there would rarely be a need to edit the main candidates page. I don't think this would be a problem though. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 16:38, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
I was just thinking of doing this myself a few days ago. I have moved this conversation to Wikipedia talk:In the news. I would very much approve of this idea.  Cargoking  talk  17:10, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

Invitation to comment

Hi Arsonal. I am Cargoking and you probably have seen me around ITN. I have identified you as an ITN regular, so I thought I would inform you of a discussion opened on 5 December 2009.

MSGJ suggested on Arsonal's (who's fairly new to ITN) talk page, that ITN suggestions made on the candidate's page would be put on separate pages, such as Wikipedia:In the news/Candidates/2009-12-05. The past seven days of discussion would be automatically transcluded. "This would avoid the need for archiving and it would also leave the history of the page intact. It might also make it easier to create new days because we can use preload templates, etc." The only disadvantage to this proposal would be that each new comment would not show up on people's watchlists.

You are invited to take part in discussion here.
Thanks,  Cargoking  talk  17:36, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

Indonesian political parties template

Hi. Thanks for the map. I almost bought that book a few years ago, but decided it was too heavy to bring back from Singapore, and that I would be able to pick it up in Jakarta. Wrong on both counts.I have added a dissolution date to Template:Infobox Indonesian political party as requested, and have added it to the Masyumi Party‎ page. Have a good holiday.
