I have responded to your request for an image of the arena. It ain't the prettiest photo of the exterior (the parking garage from which an excellent photo could be taken is locked for the summer), but it shoudl work for demonstrative purposes. As far as an interior shot, I'll see what I can do when hoops season starts up next winter. Just remind me. youngamerican (talk) 19:32, 4 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: K's welcome

[edit]

Tnx - I'll try it out soon.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 03:27, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK you two...I will try Ashlux's welcome to see how and why mine is now inferior. Heh. Kinda amusing to have ya discussing it. Of course anyone can simply copy it and make it their own as did Ash Lux. For some reason, when I used it, it did not come out the way I wanted it to...a sig was above it and not inside it. Then again, I am no programmer by ANY stretch of the imagination. Oh...and I am glad that others do value welcoming new members in with a good welcome. Thanks for doing that!!! I really believe it can make a difference in our community. Kukini 03:40, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It is weird it wasn't working, but it might have been the ParserFunctions (which are gone now). Apparently they can cause trouble if you subst them (but why it worked fine for me and others, I have no idea). If it is still a problem for you Kukini, use it on my talk page - maybe seeing what the results are will help. Your welcome looks great, of course. Very good job on it. -- Ash Lux (talk | contribs) 12:18, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It has been upgraded with your fix as well as one from another editor now. Thanks! I think I might look into adjusting its colors at some point as well. Kukini 13:09, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
In order to shorten the memory requirements, can we move the template into mainspace, for example as Template:WelcomeKA? Then we could use {{subst:Template:WelcomeKA}}.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 17:31, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi Ashlux,

Thanks for adding a link to the freenode page from the WP:1.0 page, I was wondering where I could find that. However, the link doesn't work. Can you fix it? I'm assuming I don't need to register or anything just to read freenode, do I? Thanks, Walkerma 02:47, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you are running windows, probably the easiest thing to do is to install mIRC. There are other clients out there, but I think mIRC will automatically support the IRC protocol within IE (it doesn't seem to handle it by default in firefox though). If you still have troubles, let me know. -- Ash Lux (talk | contribs) 03:07, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Oklahoma

I noticed that you added some of the Oklahoma-related pages I have created to WikiProject Oklahoma. Please feel free to check my User page's "List of Articles I Have Created" for other pages that may be of interest to WikiProject Oklahoma. --TommyBoy 06:21, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, that's a nice list of things I didn't already have on that list. Never hurts to put a few more OK-related articles in (at least my own) RC patrol. Keep up the good work too! =) -- Ash Lux (talk | contribs) 12:49, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK stub creation

[edit]

I was trying to find something about the history of The Gayly Oklahoman, but could not. Thus it is currently a rather brief stub. Just trying to stay active in the wikiproject. Thanks for your ongoing help in the AZ one as well as your welcome message support and so forth. Kukini 13:07, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your welcome. When my gf gets back from Italy, she said she has some sources that should help (OU's GLBT club has some of their papers that detail their history). -- Ash Lux (talk | contribs) 13:18, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

*sighs* Well, I was trying to add the bottom of the article that got cut off. Copy and pasted the bottom from a previous article as not to revert edits since the article was cut off, but when I hit save the page was entirely gone.  :-( Anyone got any suggestions? Maybe there are some browser issues with FF or something? -- Ash Lux (talk | contribs) 12:15, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Now that I look at it, my edit was fine, but the bot cleared the page. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Oklahoma_City%2C_Oklahoma&diff=next&oldid=57344059 -- Ash Lux (talk | contribs) 12:20, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome template

[edit]

Hi, I wanted to suggest that you merge your welcome template with the other 2, to prevent redundancy/duplication.

User:Kukini/Welcome just had a colour update, and I've suggested to Kukini that he should replace {{welcomeg}} with his version, as the only difference is the intro paragraph. As Kukini seems to have added an auto-signature, the colour scheme is the only difference between your two templates.

(So essentially, once (if) Kukini merges his template to {{welcomeg}}, I'm suggesting you both just redirect to that one.)

Hope that sounds good. :) --Quiddity·(talk) 18:08, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please see further discussion/explanation at User talk:Kukini/Welcome#Hey ya'll. Thanks :) --Quiddity·(talk) 22:29, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Gallagher-Iba-Arena-Inside-January-22-2005.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Gallagher-Iba-Arena-Inside-January-22-2005.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ccwaters 01:30, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Ashlux, welcome to WikiProject LGBT Studies!

We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles of interest to the LGBT community. Some points that may be helpful:

  • Our main aim is to help improve LGBT-related articles, so if someone asks for help with an article, please try your hardest to help them if you are able.
  • Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
  • The project has several ongoing and developing activities, such as article quality assessment, peer review and a project-wide article collaboration, all of which you are welcome to take part in. We also have a unique program to improve our lower quality articles, Jumpaclass, so please consider signing up there.
  • If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to our translation section, to help us improve our foreign LGBT topics.
  • If you're planning to stay, have a square in our quilt! You can put anything you want in it.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

And once again - Welcome!

SP! became a GA before the review was started, so I've attempted to unarchive it, as the goal of the peer review was not a pre-GA lookover, but rather, a pre-FA lookover. Oklahoma State Cowboys Wrestling

[edit]

Thank you for your attempt to improve this article. You mentioned in your edit replacing the info box with one for a completely different sport, "I know it's CBB, but it works for what we need it for". I emphasized the we because it wasn't obvious who it was that you reached consensus with. For the time being, I've reverted it. If you feel the basketball box is more appropriate for a wrestling article or if there is an issue here I don't understand, please come back with your suggestion so the community can reach some sort of consensus. Johnn 7 12:57, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A better option would be to just start a new infobox, but there's no need to maintain 2 infoboxes with virtually the same information :-) -- Ash Lux (talk | contribs) 13:55, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's a good idea. The box with info originally on the page is used in several other wrestling articles. Perhaps I'll look into making a formal infobox out of it today. Johnn 7 14:06, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like i beat you to it, see {{Infobox College Wrestling Team}}. -- Ash Lux (talk | contribs) 17:12, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Other articles that need this template: Iowa Hawkeyes wrestling, Minnesota Golden Gophers wrestling, and North Dakota State Bison wrestling. -- Ash Lux (talk | contribs) 17:14, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What is the difference between that template and {{Infobox college athletics}}? I could very easily make the fields in that template optional and so they won't show up if they are blank.↔NMajdantalk 17:23, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
{{Infobox college athletics}} seems more pointed toward the athletic program as a whole whereas both {{Infobox CBB Team}} and {{Infobox College Wrestling Team}} are more specific to a team with variables such as national championships, final four appearance, current coach, etc. Neither sport is played in a stadium, but an arena. Things like mascot and fight song isn't really appropriate for a team's page (both basketball and wrestling templates have team colors, and I'm not sure there's a good reason for it and maybe should be removed). No doubt {{Infobox college athletics}} could be forced to be appropriate for wrestling, basketball, baseball, etc. but usually forcing numerous cases like this into a single template is not a good idea to keep them maintainable and usable. -- Ash Lux (talk | contribs) 19:48, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I always thought that if we could user one template/infobox for multiple applications, that was preferable. How often would these need to be "maintained?" I don't think the parameters will change. Maybe I'll try to work on a universal template in my spare time and see what I can come up with.↔NMajdantalk 20:08, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There is a line where it can be too coarse-grained to be useful and maintainable (a gigantic infobox for colleges, sports teams, newspapers, ...) and where it can be too fine-grained to be practical (seperate infoboxes for *everything*). Combining {{Infobox CBB Team}} and {{Infobox College Wrestling Team}} with {{Infobox college athletics}} is most certainly too course-grained. Men's and women's college basketball are related enough that having a single infobox for them makes sense. Here's a partial list of infoboxes you are proposing combining into one huge infobox: {{NLL Team Infobox}}, {{Infobox CBB Team}}, {{Infobox College Wrestling Team}}, baseball (I can't find a template, but LSU Tigers baseball has something similar), {{NCAAFootballSchool}}, {{MLL Team Infobox}}, {{Infobox Swim team}}, {{AFL team}}, {{NFLE team}}, {{NBADL team}}, {{NBA team}}, {{Infobox National football team}}, {{Infobox Football club}}, {{Cycling team infobox}}, {{Minor league team}}, ... In my opinion, each of those are likely sufficiently different to warrant their own infobox (About the only thing each of those infoboxes have in common is a name). -- Ash Lux (talk | contribs) 21:14, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, I do not intend on combining all those into one. The only reason I say these three (athletics, CBB, Wrestling) could be one is because their layout is already very similar. I went ahead and took a stab at combining the three. Take a look at User:Nmajdan/Template1. And the coding is still pretty much the same. I made all the fields optional; I added a couple fields to the main area that the CBB and Wrestling infoboxes had that the Athletics one did not (coach, capacity), and added the parts at the bottom inside a simple switch statement. Still very easy to maintain.↔NMajdantalk 21:40, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I opened up a discussion concerning the new template at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject College football#Need opinion on a couple templates. Please feel free to share your opinion.↔NMajdantalk 14:23, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikiproject Oklahoma Newsletter

[edit]

Greetings! This is a random delivery of the WikiProject Oklahoma newsletter, the "WikiOkie Reporter":

The WikiOkie Reporter

WikiProject Oklahoma's Newsletter
Issue 1 - September 2007

Discuss this newsletter

Your second or third stop for WikiProject Oklahoma News

WikiProject Oklahoma releases new newsletter

September 2007 brings a new face to WikiProject Oklahoma: a newsletter. As in all of Wikipedia, the new WikiOkie Reporter (tenative name) is intended to be a collaborative effort among editors. Anyone can edit it: this month's newsletter is placed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Oklahoma/newsletter/aug07, but next month's will be placed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Oklahoma/newsletter/oct07, with the following month at /newsletter/nov07, and so on. While this month's article's were initially written by User:Okiefromokla, it is hoped other editors will be excited to contribute to articles, content, layout, and ideas. This is a completely new child of WikiProject Oklahoma, and it should reflect the collaborative work of everyone who's bored and has nothing to do for a few minutes. As such, anything can be discussed here: anything - layout, color scheme, pictures, content, etc.

The behind-the-scenes workings for the WikiOkie Reporter will be simple: anyone wishing to receive the newsletter in their talk page may place their name at sign-up list, but they are more than free to remove their name from the same list at any time. Anyone wishing to discuss ideas or anything at all related to the newsletter may look no further than here: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Oklahoma/newsletter/talk.

Several WikiProjects already have ongoing newsletters, including Wikipedia: WikiProject North Dakota, from which WikiProject Oklahoma's newsletter has been based. For the time being, Okiefromokla will assume distribution responsibilities for the newsletter, maintaining the template, and writing articles from scratch if other editors have not done so by the 1st of the month.

Promotions on the rise

For many Wikipedians, summer is a time to kick back, relax, and make an occasional minor edit to their favorite few pages. Not so in WikiProject Oklahoma. Between May 12 and September, editors have been busily working on Oklahoma, Tulsa, and Woody Guthrie, and all three have been promoted. Prior to May, there were only seven Featured or Good articles in WikiProject Oklahoma.

On May 12, Tulsa was promoted from B-class to FA class after a few months of extensive editing. Its primary editors were User:Nmajdan, User:SandyGeorgia, User:Okiefromokla, and a handful of others. On August 25, Oklahoma was promoted from B-class to FA class after a month-long blitz. User:Okiefromokla, User: SandyGeorgia, and several anonymous IPs contributed heavily to the article. On June 13, 2007, Woody Guthrie was promoted from B-Class to GA class after two failed attempts at promotion. User:Dannygutters, User:Gaff, User:Maenpong, and a handful of others contributed most to the article.

This month's task: Assess articles! Check out all these unassessed articles to help out!

The WikiProject Oklahoma newsletter is a work in progress so please share your ideas about how the newsletter can be improved.
If you no longer wish to receive this newsletter, please remove your name from the sign-up list.
