Orphaned non-free image File:Stumpy.svg

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Stumpy.svg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Online Ambassador Program

Please take a look at this project page and see if you can be a mentor to one of the many Areas of Study. If you can, please put your name in the "Online Mentor" area of the Area of Study of your choice and then contact the students you will be working with. As the Coordinating Online Ambassador for this project, please let me know if I can be of assistance. Take Care...NeutralhomerTalk • 04:38, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Touchpad touchstone.png

Thanks for uploading File:Touchpad touchstone.png. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 04:55, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Jimmy Hansra, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia for multiple reasons. Please see the page to see the reasons. If the page has since been deleted, you can ask me the reasons by leaving a message on my user talk page.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. I dream of horses If you reply here, please leave me a {{Talkback}} message on my talk page. @ 05:55, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

Changes

If you want to make changes to a widely-used template, you don't just do it and hope that no one notices. You have to propose changes first, then discuss them, and if the community agrees, then you can implement them. Discuss first, act later; not act first, discuss later. – PeeJay 20:06, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

I never questioned your obvious good faith, I'm just questioning your process. Sure, you can make edits, but if someone objects, you don't just revert as it's clear that your edits were controversial. At that point, you should have started a discussion. – PeeJay 20:16, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
I've been trying to discuss my "rampage" all along, but with your apparent crusade to revert me, I've had to spend more time cleaning up your mess than actually formulating my arguments. Read them at your leisure. – PeeJay 21:00, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

Best bowling

I realise you've only been here a short time, but in cases where a team took no wickets, it is customary here to leave the "wicketsx" parameter blank. – PeeJay 21:02, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

I also realise that you have been here long, but go out and watch a game of cricket. Best bowling is the best (with or without wickets). ashwinikalantri talk 21:12, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
I watch cricket all the time, so don't condescend to me. If every bowler takes 0 wickets, then - according to most cricket statisticians - none of them is the best, regardless of runs conceded. I know it sounds counter-intuitive, but that definitely is the case (in the UK at least). – PeeJay 21:18, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
Who? Where? Since you are so good at it, could I see a link? ashwinikalantri talk 21:39, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

Edit warring

I highly recommend that you read WP:BRD and WP:3RR and make sure you understand those pages. Your repeated reverts are not redeemed by the occasional talk page post. You can consider yourself lucky not to be blocked already. There is no issue so urgent that you must revert to your preferred version before explaining yourself. Also you have also been warned about using deliberately misleading edit summaries before. This came in the middle of an edit war, and was obviously a revert. Labelling it an "update" is misleading and disruptive. If you cannot avoid such disruptive behaviour you risk being sanctioned. I have stated on WT:CRIC that any further reverts over this matter will immediately result in a block. Nev1 (talk) 21:57, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

Minor edits

Hi Ashwini,

Thanks for your reply at WT:CRIC. I can solve your minor edit problem, not sure why I didn't think of this before. If you go to the top right of the screen to "My preferences", then click the "Editing" tab, there is a check box about halfway down that says "Mark all edits minor by default". If you untick that, you should be ok.—User:MDCollins (talk) 22:16, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

Marking articles students are working on

Howdy, Online Ambassador!

This is a quick message to all the ambassadors about marking and tracking which articles students are working on. For the classes working with the ambassador program, please look over any articles being worked on by students and make sure these things are taken care of (especially for classes that aren't working with mentors):

  1. Add {{WAP assignment | term = Spring 2011 }} to the articles' talk pages. (The other parameters of the {{WAP assignment}} template are helpful, so please add them as well, but the term = Spring 2011 one is most important.)
  2. If the article is related to United States public policy, make sure the article the WikiProject banner is on the talk page: {{WikiProject United States Public Policy}}
  3. Add Category:Article Feedback Pilot (a hidden category) to the article itself. The second phase of the Article Feedback Tool project has started, and this time we're trying to include all of the articles students are working on. Please test out the Article Feedback Tool, as well. The new version just deployed, so any bug reports or feedback will be appreciated by the tech team working on it.

And of course, don't forget to check in on the students, give them constructive feedback, praise them for positive contributions, award them {{The WikiPen}} if they are doing excellent work, and so on. And if you haven't done so, make sure any students you are mentoring are listed on your mentor profile.

Thanks! --Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 18:30, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

World Cup Quarter Finals

Please cite a reference, when making a change. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rafeyjadoon (talkcontribs) 08:15, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

Second that emotion. You added India to the quarterfinals w/out confirmation fr/ ICC website. This isn't a fanzine. It's a reference tool that people hope to rely on. This kind of editing interferes with reliability. And wastes time. Tapered (talk) 14:12, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
If you would go and read Talk:2011_Cricket_World_Cup#QF_lineups_.28venues.29_wrong, you will have your answer. While you are at it, try this also ashwinikalantri talk
Until the ICC posts it, it's original research. ESPN is OK for scores & info, but not for an official event. Wikipedia:No original research Howzat? Tapered (talk) 14:40, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
BTW, why didn't you list Sri Lanka's side in Sri Lanka? Fan based editing, perhaps? Cheers.Tapered (talk) 14:53, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
This was announced by ICC on friday. ESPN reported it. ESPN is a reliable sports news source. The rest of the community at WP finds them that. Sri Lanka wasnt listed earlier because, if India had lost, SL would have played India in India. Now please stop wasting my time by asking stupid questions. ashwinikalantri talk 16:40, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
I remain convinced that anything except ICC verification is original research. I'm grateful that the point is now moot. Thank you pointing out the prohibition on mockery. I address it on my talk page. Hiding one's identity in confrontation could be considered cowardice. I obey only the orders of those authorized to give orders. 04:50, 21 March 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tapered (talkcontribs)
I think you should read WP:NOR. And if you have, do it more carefully. "The term "original research" refers to material—such as facts, allegations, ideas, and stories—not already published by reliable sources." And if you question ESPN as a reliable source, you should read WP:IRS. And whats this crap about hiding identity? --ashwinikalantri talk 05:28, 21 March 2011 (UTC)
The only reliable source for scheduling any tournament is the sanctioning body of the tournament, no matter how ostensibly reliable any other source may be, correct or not. The passage in question is the last line of "India - Quarter Finals" Archive 3 of the World Cup Discussion, which was done by you, if I read the View History of the page correctly. Tapered (talk) 06:26, 22 March 2011 (UTC)
I disagree with you. ICC doesnt publish everything on the website. It announces them in press conferences. Then news sources like ESPN report them. FYI, ESPN is the official media partner of the ICC World cup 2011. If you still feel differently, discuss it on WP:CRIC.
The archiving was done on topics that were potentially obsolete. The discussion was about the schedule at the QFs. After the official word was out, there was no more need to discuss. It was done after discussion with Nev1. It is not hiding anything. All the matter is still present in the archive. This is all I have. please bother someone else. ashwinikalantri talk 11:19, 22 March 2011 (UTC)
Fair enough. Point is moot anyway. From what I read on this page, I'm not alone in disputing w/ you. Please stay away fr/ soccer/football pages. For everybody's sake.Tapered (talk) 18:09, 22 March 2011 (UTC)

Stop spamming my talk page

A cursory look at the history of the "articles" you are incorrectly tagging for speedy deletion would show I could not care less about them. O Fenian (talk) 18:32, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

WP automatically puts up a notice on the creator of the page. In this case, you. --ashwinikalantri talk 18:35, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
Except I am not the creator of the page, as the histories show. If you had even looked at the history of the pages in question you would find who created the redirects and why, and why deleting them would be an exceptionally bad idea. That is of course, if you manage to find the correct deletion tag to apply to redirects.. O Fenian (talk) 18:39, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
There you go. The history clearly shows you have created them. And I did not put the notices on your Talk page. WP did that automatically, figuring you had started the pages and might want to protest. --ashwinikalantri talk 18:43, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
And I dont quite understand why it is a bad idea. Care to explain? ashwinikalantri talk 18:46, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
No I did not. All my edits to the redirects were simply moves to clean up the mess created by that editor, who going by that summary will only do it again if the redirects do not exist. So under circumstances like that, it is not helpful to spam the talk page of the editor who fixed the mess with templates that do not interest them in the slightest. Wikipedia does not automatically template me but Twinkle does, which is why you might want to ease up on the use of automated tools under certain circumstances. O Fenian (talk) 18:51, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
Anyway, The "WC xxxx" article dont need to exist, as they are no good. No one will use WC 1975 to go to World Cup 1975.
I did use Twinkle, with no intention of spaming your page. --ashwinikalantri talk 18:58, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

WC 2011

You were confused when you said that I created WC 2011. Someone else moved 2011 Cricket World Cup to WC 2011, and I moved it back again and told the user that his fistful of moves were in error and that he should move them back again. - David Biddulph (talk) 19:28, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

Twinkle chose to notify you! Sorry. ashwinikalantri talk 19:32, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
Don't blame Twinkle. If you can't get Twinkle to do things correctly, don't use it. - David Biddulph (talk) 20:09, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
Its a program, it does what it is programmed to do. I dont decide that. You were the first person to edit that page on the page history. --ashwinikalantri talk 05:32, 21 March 2011 (UTC)
I was the first person to edit the page, not the person who created the page. If the program isn't good enough to do the job, don't use it. It's up to you to check what the program is doing. Perhaps I can remind you of the warning displayed prominently at the top of WP:Twinkle: "Be advised that you take full responsibility for any action performed using Twinkle." - David Biddulph (talk) 08:36, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: WC 1975

Hello AshwiniKalantri, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of WC 1975, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: It's a redirect not an article so A10 doesn't apply, If it's unhelpful send to RfD. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. Tikiwont (talk) 19:40, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

Sorry, but you've just above been advised that you need to check what you're doing with tools like twinkle. Now you've listed this and a whole kind of similar redirects without reasoning at RfD. Please bundle the into one header (yesterdays page has an example) and add your motive for deletion. Thanks. --Tikiwont (talk) 20:04, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
