Sample Clearance System Wikipedia Page
I plan to make a Wikipedia page on The Sample Clearance System, because as of now there is no information that I have found that is on “The Sample Clearance System”, sample licensing, or any related topics. This is a huge part of the music industry and music litigations that have been frequent since the early 90’s when sampling became increasingly popular, and people actually began to care. There are massive amounts of information to include on the topic, but for starters I will probably be breaking it down into sections that include its development, the stakeholders involved in sample licensing, the structure and terms of sample licenses, the benefits and expenses of sample licenses, the idea of mash-ups, and specific cases of sample licensing, and international sample licensing. The Development of the Sample Clearance System will discuss the 90’s increase in sampling artists, that with the help of more digital technology, that made both sampling and the policing of sampling easier, and lead to the development of the clearance sample system. It was during this decade that sampling increasingly changed from being an underground act that concerned the artist and the record they were sampling, to an above ground relationship between licensees and licensors. The stakeholders that have a concern with sampling licensing then expanded to the majority of people in the music industry that include record labels, producers, publishers, lawyers, and the artists themselves. The structure and terms of sample licensing will be first and foremost based on the fact that there are no laws that govern the sample clearance system besides copyright law, which is indirectly the foundation in which negotiation of licenses take place. Therefore, it will be discussed that a majority of sample license negotiation takes place “under the table”, and is usually only litigated when one party refuses negotiation (or can’t afford the desired price). This portion will also discuss the different classes of deals that are most frequently buy-outs, but can sometimes be royalty-based, or even gratis. There are a number of cases regarding The Sample Clearance system that can illustrate the various costs and benefits to all of the stakeholders involved. There has also been many cases of samples that run across international boarders and are litigated (most often involved with Europe), as well as the exploitation of music from countries that don’t have big, conglomerate, multi-billion dollar record labels or the RIAA that has sometimes (and rarely) been brought to question.

That is the appropriate place for student discussions; on sub-pages of the course page, not at Template:Course assignment/doc or Category:Week 3 Assignments. - Ok, cool; I'll clean out the other copies, then. You could make links from Education Program talk:University of California, Berkeley/Politics of Digital Piracy (Spring 2013)/Timeline to your weekly assignment subpages under each week's section. That way, students can find the discussion pages right there on the course page. I put a link under the "Week 3: What is Copyright?" section of the timeline to the Week 3 assignment subpage. Feel free to reword or move it around or whatever; I just plopped it in there as an example. I just realized that I'll be online during your class (except on the second Tuesday of each month), 5-6:30 PST, which is 8-9:30 for me. How many students are in your class? Creation and usage of media files[edit]
You can't upload PPT files to Wikipedia. Please see Wikipedia:Creation and usage of media files which lists the permitted file types: "...png, gif, jpg/jpeg, xcf, pdf, mid, ogg/ogv/oga, svg, djvu. All others are prohibited for security reasons..." You can also find info there about permissible audio and video formats. I find it easiest to upload anything that isn't an image somewhere else then just link to it. --Geniac (talk) 02:30, 4 February 2013 (UTC)

Hello, Atavel. Thank you for helping to build Wikipedia-- the world's largest free content encyclopedia. I'm sorry, but User:Atavel/Jessica Rylan has been deleted as meeting WP:CSD#G11. "This applies to pages that are exclusively promotional and would need to be fundamentally rewritten to conform with Wikipedia:NOTFORPROMOTION." These must be rewritten from scratch from "reliable, third party sources unconnected to the subject." See WP:RS.
Wikipedia:Identifying blatant advertising#Typical signs of blatant advertising contains information about content to avoid. For more information on content that may be perceived as promotional, click User:Dlohcierekim/promo. These are just rough guides. Pages can avoid all those pitfalls and still be glaringly obvious ad copy. Sometimes pages meeting WP:CSD#G11 give the appearance of an editor violating Wikipedia:Conflict of interest or WP:PAID.
