Sourcing[edit]

Hello there,

You are absolutely correct to want to include non-online sources in the Bervin E. Purnell article. The citation templates are the probably the easiest way to create citations in a commonly used format. Template:Cite web and Template:Cite news are templates you'll see a lot. There are a lot of parameters, but most of them are optional and it's otherwise pretty straightforward. The full list of templates is at WP:Citation templates.

Another thing to note is that, although the templates are useful, they're not required. If you prefer a different citation format, or you would just rather not deal with the templates, just write your own citation for the work and place them between the ref tags, like so: <ref name=citationnote>C. Prince, "A note on using citations". Some Newspaper 2009.</ref>

The name=whatever parameter is useful if you want to reuse a citation on another fact without retyping the whole thing out. Just use <ref name=whatever/> to repeat the reference.

Chances are if the article is popular enough, someone will come along and reformat the references or put them in a template. The important thing is to provide the citations and let the wiki take care of the rest. A longer tutorial on citations is at wp:cite.
