Funk genre infoboxes and template

[edit]

Hi, I am User:Life of Tau. I understand why you would want the colors for funk genre infoboxes and the funk music template to differ from those used for soul genres, but the way you have gone about this is all wrong. Consensus is the means by which decisions are made on Wikipedia, and the guidelines at WP:GENRECOLOUR are considered to have consensus. For each listed color, the accompanying genre category was introduced, became accepted, and has seen (for the most part) consistent implementation, and when any disagreements arose, they were resolved through discussion on the talk page. Orange with black text for soul and funk genres was introduced 12 years ago and is used to this day. Having a differing preference is perfectly acceptable, but simply going out and changing infoboxes and templates to suit it is considered disruptive because doing so runs counter to (and can be seen as an attempt to circumvent) this process.

Changing the existing guidelines is certainly possible, and the appropriate way to do this is to make a proposal on the talk page of WP:GENRECOLOUR (click the "New Section" tab at the top to add it), where other interested editors may express agreement or disagreement with your suggestion. If you succeed at convincing others (or are simply unopposed) such that your proposal can be considered to have consensus, then I will be happy to modify the guidelines to match it and implement them where needed.

Best of luck with your future editing. LifeofTau 20:32, 1 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
