Technical move of Williams-Sonoma[edit]

Hello Austinamoroso1. I declined your move request here because adding the 'Inc.' suffix to a company name in an article title is frowned upon by WP:Naming conventions (companies). If you are determined that the company article should be different from the one for the cookware line, you might consider proposing Williams-Sonoma (company). But as things stand, what would prevent you from covering both topics in a single article? EdJohnston (talk) 22:39, 5 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi EdJohnston. The company (Williams-Sonoma, Inc.) and brand (Williams-Sonoma) are two separate entities with different names, logos, website, products, number of stores, locations, executives, number of employees, and slogans. Williams-Sonoma, Inc. is the parent company over 7 brands, which are referenced in the existing Williams-Sonoma article, including Pottery Barn, west elm and Rejuvenation - these three brands each have their own article. Wikipedia has no obligation to structure our coverage from the org chart of this company. If you really think this move should be performed, you can use the {{Requested move}} template on the article talk page. If you believe that the cookware line is independently notable perhaps you can find coverage of the cookware line in reliable sources. Things like West Elm and Pottery Barn have different storefronts and might appear to the public to be different companies. But nobody is surprised when they go into a Williams-Sonoma store and find Williams-Sonoma cookware for sale there. EdJohnston (talk) 05:14, 6 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
