Bunch of stuff snipped[edit]

A bunch of warnings have been snipped here. Let's start again... Wknight94 talk 14:27, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

ANi Notice[edit]

AF101, you have been indefinitely blocked by Wknight94 for repeatedly creating speediable pages and ignoring warnings on your talk page. If you wish to contest the block, use {{unblock|your reason here}}. JamieS93 be kind to newcomers 13:43, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) I have blocked you indefinitely for your spree, and for ignoring numerous warnings above. If you'd like to discuss, feel free to post an {{unblock}} message here. Any admin is welcome to unblock you if they are convinced you will stop that. Wknight94 talk 13:45, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, I received your e-mail but discussion would be better on this page. Wknight94 talk 13:45, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have a comprehensive database of airports with basic details. I would like to add them onto wikipedia - the information I have is largely airport statistics which would be very useful for infoboxes. Aviation fellow 101 (talk) 14:13, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ah good, you found your way here. I added some links way at the top of this page so you can get a proper start and find out what makes a proper article. What you were doing, i.e. creating articles that say only "XXX is an airport" is not a proper article. You need to give some context about the airport - where it is, who it serves, etc., etc. There is probably an airport Wikiproject somewhere that can help with those details. Then you can mark the short article with a {{stub}} tag at the bottom. People can help you flesh the articles out but they need a proper start first. If you'll agree just to discuss before creating any more articles, I'll be happy to unblock now. Wknight94 talk 14:16, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Here we go - WP:AV. That should be a good read for you as well. You can drop a note at WT:AV to discuss your information, etc. (Just let me know you'll stop creating articles first so I can unblock). Wknight94 talk 14:19, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks - actually I'm more than welcome to have my articles as a stub for everyone else to add and improve upon, as quite frankly the information I have about these airports are largely statistical. I'm a bit of an enthusiast here - I have a databse collection of over 15 000 airports - from what I noticed thats alot more than the airports on wikipedia. Plus I also noticed alot of the pages on airports on wikipedia don't have all the statistics such as coordinates in many cases. I was just trying to contribute :( and just made a simple template which consisted of the basic statistical details for the infobox. I wasn't aware that you had to mark such concise pages with a stub tag - my bad :( sorry about that. With regards to discussing I'm more than ready to do so although the information I have is like I said largely statistical infobox worthy. Thanks Aviation fellow 101 (talk) 14:24, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

we're glad you do! I would definitly read the links that were left for you, once you understand how everything works I think you will make a fine addition to the Airport project! Please don't think of this as an attack on you as it just wasn't clear how they were notable. Make sure you reference them as applies to wp:rs. Welcome to Wikipedia, hope you stick aroundHell In A Bucket (talk) 14:27, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Be aware that to warrant an article the airport should be notable in line with the wikipedia notability guideline. Luepo, for example, seems so small and off the beaten track that nothing of any significance flies in and out (I too have acdess to an airport database). Wikipedia doesn't need an article on every facility in the world with a hard surface runway where planes land occasionally. What it does need are well researched articles on notable airports - which is where your database may come in very handy. Elen of the Roads (talk) 14:31, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the unblock - I didn't mean to mess up. Does that mean is it okay if I can add the concise pages as long as I mark them as stubs for users and visitors to work on? The Aviation project looks nice would definitely give it a read - thanks for the 'warm welcome' :) no hard feelings Aviation fellow 101 (talk) 14:34, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In general, watch for messages here. You should get a big orange bar on the top of your screen which means someone is trying to contact you. There was a notability and stub discussion going on at WP:ANI#User talk:Aviation fellow 101 but I recommended it be moved to WT:AV. You might want to start a little more slowly so people can help you get started. Wknight94 talk 14:37, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
And yes, sorry about the drama. Communication can be difficult in this environment. Essentially, people were shouting at you to stop, stop, stop, but you couldn't hear them! LOL. So I have a special button that does a better job of getting people's attention. No hard feelings. Wknight94 talk 14:39, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict):You should really only create a stub for an airport that is large enough to have some chance of notability (it's an AOE, it meets minimum commercial standards, it has an interesting history etc).Elen of the Roads (talk) 14:48, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you ever have questions, by the way, you can always leave me a message at my talk page, or place the template {{helpme}} on this talk page. We like people with niche interests who contribute, so welcome! :-) JamieS93 be kind to newcomers 14:46, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Getting you some help.[edit]

Take a look here, I started a discussion regarding Airport notability at [[2]] they will either guide you to the policies or help you create them!Hell In A Bucket (talk) 14:38, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
