Royal Australian Navy page[edit]

Hey Awh71, you made a request on the Royal Australian Navy talk page to update the badge, but provided no context to the request. The badge was lasted updated in 2002 and hasn't since changed. See - [1]. Nford24 (PE121 Personnel Request Form) 06:59, 18 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ash, Thanks for disclosing your link to the Navy. If you haven't done so already, please read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and ensure that your editing remains in line with it. Please also note that it's unfortunately currently not possible for Wikipedia editors to download and use photos from the Navy's website (or other ADF websites) due to copyright issues. For images to be usable on Wikipedia, they need to be released under a suitable Creative Commons license, and the ADF asserts copyright over its images. The advice on copyright issues is unfortunately rather confusing, but Wikipedia:File copyright tags outlines the types of licenses which are compliant for Wikipedia. While I imagine that the process for gaining approval might be complex, it would be very helpful if some, if not all, Navy or ADF images could be released under Wikipedia-friendly licenses. At present we're largely dependent on photos taken by the US military (whose works are free of copyright) and images taken by Wikipedia editors, which leads to somewhat skewed visual coverage of topics at times. Quite a few Australian Government agencies have moved to Wikipedia-friendly licensing for images, but Defence has not done so. Regards, Nick-D (talk) 08:55, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
