Conflict of interest?[edit]

Your username suggests that you may be employed by BSI. If this is true, please review our Wikipedia:conflict of interest policy. You can still request changes to the article, ideally specifying what the new text would be, but an uninvolved editor must review and apply them as appropriate.

If my surmise is incorrect, please accept my apologies. --𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 11:24, 12 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, yes I am employed by BSI. Thank you for sending this over. Fully happy for this to be reviewed by someone independent- and want to make sure the page is correct and up to date also.
On that topic, I tried to change the Kitemark image to the current one, as this changed almost 3 years ago, but was unable to do so. Are you able to help with this? BSIKitemark (talk) 11:34, 12 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, first, please add a statement to that effect on your user page. Then the formal declarations can be done on the Kitemark and BSI talkpages. Your changes were fine except that we regard The Sun as inherently unreliable so I deleted that one: I see that another editor has reinstated it, citing the same report in The Mirror (which we tag as "use with caution", meaning no 'celebrity' gossip ).
Yes, please read Help:Files, which will tell you what to do: if you need more help, best ask at the Wikipedia:Teahouse because I've never done a Wikipedia upload and replacing an existing file needs extra care. In particular you need to be clear on whether you are uploading a print-quality (megapixel) image that is free of all restrictions (meaning anyone may use it anywhere for any reason, not just Wikipedia. I doubt you do but that is the default on Commons unless you say otherwise), or a cut-down version of it (no more than about 300 x 300 pixels) for use only on the Kitemark page. I suggest you read the "Details" info at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:BSI_Kitemark.svg which is how the current version is licensed, which is the typical form for company logos. [Wikipedia applies US "fair use" law – see Wikipedia:Copyrights#Non-free materials and special requirements. The concept of "fair use" does not exist in UK law. You might be wise to consult your internal IPR people in case it makes a difference who uploads it (I have no idea but I can see that it might do).] --𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 23:23, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, BSIKitemark. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Annh07 (talk) 11:58, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for this information it is useful and will follow these guidelines BSIKitemark (talk) 12:27, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please can you reapply the changes I made to this page as they were made for accuracy. For example the image of the logo is over 3 years out of date currently. Kitemark BSIKitemark (talk) 12:29, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

December 2023[edit]

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because your account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  • Provide a new username.

To do this, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. UtherSRG (talk) 12:16, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Your username was only one small part of the problem here. You haven't addressed the other concerns mentioned above. Yamla (talk) 12:39, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Yamla, please see the below info which hopefully helps with this:
Re: edits, the majority of edits made were to address the incorrect image on the Kitemark page. As an employee of BSI I want this to be corrected- I do not need to make this edit myself but as you can see previous attempt to have an impartial editor do this were ignored. If edits to the Kitemark page can be made for accuracy, I am happy for another editor to do this.
I now understand other editors need to make these edits, could you please explain the process for me to suggest, rather than make edits directly.
If unblocked edits will be suggested if on a topic related to the company I work on, and in areas of my general knowledge with relevant references.
Please let me know if there is anything else you need from me to consider this please. BSIKitemark (talk) 12:54, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
could you please explain the process for me to suggest, rather than make edits directly The explanation is in the "Managing a conflict of interest" section above, which summarizes a portion of the Wikipedia:conflict of interest policy you were instructed to read and understand back in January. - UtherSRG (talk) 12:58, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @UtherSRG that is helpful.
@Yamla@UtherSRG are you able to assist with this deletion request please. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/File:BSI_Kitemark.jpg BSIKitemark (talk) 14:24, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Considering I'm the one who created the deletion request... However, I'm not an admin on there. It will get deleted in due course. - UtherSRG (talk) 14:38, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The deletion request has now been fulfilled. - UtherSRG (talk) 16:44, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Image[edit]

Note that you have irrevocably released the BSI Kitemark logo, File:BSI Kitemark.jpg, freely for anyone to use, under the terms of CC-BY-SA-4.0. I want to be very clear, this means companies are free to place this logo on their products, so long as they do not falsely claim the product has been certified by you. I hope this was your intention. If not, you may wish to have the image removed from wikimedia commons. Note that it is too late to prevent companies from using this logo without certification, however. --Yamla (talk) 12:49, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please remove this, I only wish for the logo to be updated as an example of what the logo looks like as the one on the page is outdated. BSIKitemark (talk) 12:57, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am unable to do so. You uploaded this to a different project, wikimedia commons. However, UtherSRG has kindly assisted you by nominating it for deletion. --Yamla (talk) 16:42, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
