Hi! Solomon and the baby
I just wanted to drop a note letting you know that I stumbled upon the Reference Desk Humanities Wikipedia page. I never knew there was such a page on Wikipedia. I read the section about Solomon and the baby, and I agree with your opinions there. I couldn't participate in the discussion there because it's closed. As I reading everyone's opinion, I felt like your opinion was the correct one. I'm kind of new to Wikipedia, and I have lived in the Bible Belt (Tennessee) my whole life. I learned the Solomon and the baby story in elementary school while going to Church. (I'm now 43) I agree 100% with everything you wrote. I feel everyone else was overthinking/over analyzing things. I know this seems like a weird subject to bring up on someone's talk page, I'm not overly religious or anything, I'm just in shock that you were the only person in my opinion that understood the story, and also didn't over analyze everything to death. Major League team nicknames
Hi, Bugs,
And best wishes from an unbeliever for Twelfth Night (Epiphany).
I'm doing a slow, unhurried reformatting of the team table at Major League Baseball, and I wanted some knowledgeable advice. Basically, I truncated the seconds off those geographical co-ordinates (the seconds actually make it harder to compare how far west or south different teams play), and put in a column for essential changes in nickname or city since 1903 while avoiding specialized trivia. (I also put in some shading to distinguish expansion teams from the 8 & 8 of 1903, and to better key the conference lists with the map.)
My sandbox is here: User:Shakescene/MLB to 1960#MLB team variants.
What I wanted to do (despite the rationale from the editor who removed them from the footnotes) was provide the essential information that a non-sporting reader would need to recognize, for instance, the St Louis Browns or the Montreal Expos when they read about (say) Christy Mathewson. Also so they don't think that Seattle Mariners is (like Colt.45's for Astros) just a nickname change for the Pilots, Washington Nationals for the Senators, K.C. Royals for the K.C. Athletics, or Milwaukee Brewers for the Braves. Let alone being able to distinguish between the four AL & NL teams that have played in the Five Boroughs.(The Mets are not a new nickname for the Giants.)
Do you think there is something in my draft table that I should add, or can safely remove?

It think it'll be only a month before pitchers and catchers have to report, and the Truck loads up on Yawkey Way for sunnier climes.

Hello, again, Bugs,
That was extremely helpful and informative, but I see my problem rather differently.
That footnote about consulting team articles actually originated with the editor who deleted all our wonderful historical footnotes. I want to keep him or her happy to avoid some hurt feelings and edit wars, while providing what is relatively important information to identify and distinguish different teams. Of course, there's no ideal solution short of what was there before (save perhaps for towns and nicknames before 1903), but I'm trying to restore at least the minimum, and in the table itself rather than footnotes that might not be consulted by those who would benefit most (e.g. confusing the Royals with the K.C. Athletics, the Pilots with the Mariners, or the Brewers with the Braves, let alone the D.C. & N.Y. teams). However the further back you go before 1940, the trickier it gets to judge; how often, for example, would a (mythically) average reader encounter the Brooklyn Robins or the Boston Bean-Eaters?
Anyway, I'm taking an enormous liberty with your talk page by providing here your own sandbox, which you can safely play with without any fears of disrupting anything.
Some day, no doubt, you'll thank me.

Frankly, I think that your comment here was a bit harsh: Wikipedia:Reference desk/Miscellaneous. Indeed, while adults are the focus of my sexual attraction (in other words, I am absolutely no different from the ordinary person in regards to this), I would like to point out that expecting me to forget every single moment during my childhood when girls in my class or at my school wore short shorts and/or short skirts is asking for too much. For goodness sake, I have absolutely no interest in children; however, that doesn't erase my own memories back from when I myself was a child!

Apes
Baseball Bugs, I was wondering, why did you remove my reference desk question relating to the Constitution and equal rights for all apes? Since I included other apes it may not sound like a serious question, but humans are part of the ape scientific classification. In fact, humans are physically similar to other apes and therefore all apes can be considered the same, so that is a reason to include other apes in my question. Humans are not the only forms of life which have fingers and lack tails, so I don't understand why we have to speak of humans as if they're something completely different from apes. So is my question really not considered legitimate just because I didn't restrict my question to humans? Wouldn't my question be considered as being all-inclusive? - The user template does seem to ping me, but with a bug/feature: If used more than once on the same page, I am only pinged once for the page, not for each use. Replacement of disputed notification
As mentioned there, I have replaced a disputed notification [7]. Since the purpose of the notification is simply to inform others of the discussion, my replacement notification serves the same purpose and does not get into the tricky issue of modifying the text of a signed post nor in preserving the text which has been called canvassing. I don't see that there is any text in the section I deleted which either relates to how to improve the RD, or is necessary for notifying people about the ANI discussion, or even helps us grow as a community. I did mention the earlier discussion I removed since otherwise people may get confused or complain, but intentionally did not provide a history link. If people look it up, that's their choice, I don't see there is much better we can do now which isn't going to just result in more dispute. In otherwords, either we leave it at that, or we risk blowing up the dispute even more, perhaps to the extent of derailing the ANI discussion. The choice is yours. inheritance in canon/spanish/french law
I like the large print banner and the long explanation, and think it should be used as needed going forward. But at this point, unless SM or someone else unhats the offending material, would you consider leaving the large print banner, but collapsing the three paragraph explanation under "boilerplate", or some such title? My reasoning is that if the OP is satisfied with the answers and doesn't unhat, such a large block of text becomes more of a provocation than a necessity, and actually takes up more room than the rest of the thread combined. μηδείς (talk) 16:57, 18 November 2017 (UTC)

ANI Experiences survey
Beginning on November 28, 2017, the Wikimedia Foundation Community health initiative (Safety and Support and Anti-Harassment Tools team) will be conducting a survey to en.wikipedia contributors on their experience and satisfaction level with the Administrator’s Noticeboard/Incidents. This survey will be integral to gathering information about how this noticeboard works - which problems it deals with well, and which problems it struggles with.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. One reason I don't archive my talk page is that it discourages IP's and furriners on dialup from pestering me with messages when they have to wait for that page to load.
