Notices about your draft shouldn't be removed from the draft page

[edit]

Hi Bdubs1936, a couple of times when you have edited Draft:Dan Tracey, you have removed templates put there by Articles for Creation reviewers, imcluding pink "decline" notices and additional comments. Please make sure that those templates are not removed – they need to stay on the draft until it has been accepted by a reviewer. Thanks, --bonadea contributions talk 11:57, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Bonadea. Thank you! This is the first time I've tried doing this and I feel I need some help. Is there a way for me to reach out to the Wiki community for help? Bdubs1936 (talk) 21:31, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Just a note to point out that you are still removing the older notices when you resubmit, which means the reviewer gets a bit extra work. Basically, what you need to do when you edit and reviwe the draft is leave everything above the line -----. (I see that you use the Visual Editor, which I understand is a great interface, but I have never used it so I can't tell you exactly what it looks like in your editing window). I didn't see your reply until now, but to answer your question: there is a help desk for drafts, and a more general help forum (the Teahouse) for newer editors. If you look at the top of this user talk page you'll see a greyish-green box with a text that begins "Hello, Bdubs1936! Having an article declined at Articles for Creation can be disappointing." and you will find links to the help desk and the Teahouse there.
Creating a new article is the hardest thing to do as a new editor, and it's usually a good idea to spend some months editing other articles first. That makes it easier to understand the various policies and guidelines involved. Since you have only been working on this one draft page (with a single edit to another article) I have to ask why you picked Dan Tracey to edit about. Do you have any connection to him? Regards, --bonadea contributions talk 08:49, 22 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I do have a connection to Dan. He ask me if i could help him. I said yes before I knew how hard it would be. Thank ypu for your help! Bdubs1936 (talk) 19:21, 17 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Before you ask for help at one of the help desks (see my post just above), you should look through the reasons given for declining the draft. I know it can look a bit daunting to have all those long templated declines, but a lot of the text in them is the same in each case. The persistent issues with the draft have to do with

  • demonstrating notability (as Wikipedia defines it)
  • citing references correctly
  • writing in a neutral tone
  • following the Manual of Style in terms of article layout.

To demonstrate notability for a musician, the article should show that the musician meets these criteria, and/or these criteria (for any biography). The claims have to be sourced (in general, each claim should have a source, though a source can of course be used to verify more than one claim – see this info), with reliable and independent and secondary sources. These sources also need to be correctly cited. There is a tutorial here (which also talks about identifying reliable sources), and another guide for new editors here. Having a list of bare URLs at the end of an article doesn't really help Wikipedia's reader to understand where the information in the article comes from. When it comes to writing neutrally, to give an example, here you removed the specific text the reviewer pointed out, but the draft still has a generally promotional tone. Here is the neutral point of view policy. Finally, the Manual of Style is huge and complex and not something that you (or anyone else) could be expected to know by heart, but you should be aware of its existence; here is the MoS start page. The most important thing when it comes to the layout of this draft is to format the references per the guidelines linked above, and the discography – for the latter, you can have a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Musicians/Article_guidelines#Discography_section.

This is a lot of info (which is one reason why creating a new article is the hardest thing to do for a new editor!) but please have a look at the linked policies and guidelines, and use the help desk or the Teahouse to ask for clarifications. (Avoid asking about the same thing in two places at the same time, though.) Regards, --bonadea contributions talk 09:26, 22 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
