[edit]

Nice catch on the spelling error. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 09:12, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You have twice added a rendition of the song to Summertime (George Gershwin song) that does not meet the threshold required by WP:COVERSONG. Please stop and learn about why your edit is inappropriate and disruptive by following that wikilink.

In addition, repeating an edit that has been reverted (especially with a valid explanation) is considered highly disruptive and is considered edit warring, something that will get you quickly blocked from editing. Please do not add that version again. Toddst1 (talk) 17:34, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You don't have to worry about blocking me over edit warring because of your intransigence I will never contribute to Wikipedia again. I looked at WP:COVERSONG and disagree with your viewpoint. It says the following "Only cover versions/renditions important enough to have gained attention in their own right should be added to song articles. When a song has been recorded or performed by more than one artist, a particular artist's rendition should be included in the song's article (never in a separate article), but only if at least one of the following applies..." and says that one is notability. Janis Joplin's version of Summertime meets this in spades since it was performed and recorded at Woodstock Music Festival in 1969 and is feature in the 1970 documentary film on Woodstock. I would say that some of the renditions in the list are by artists and probably not as notable as Joplin's version. It's as if you don't like Joplin's version and your intransigence is more in the manner of being a Gershwin purist. Instead of deleting my addition why don't you make suggestions so it can be included. I am a retired newspaper editor and deleting my revision is not how editing is done. Unless this can be settled by dispute resolution you can count me saying goodbye to Wikipedia. Bearcat53 (talk) 00:33, 22 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You are confusing notability with WP:NOTABILITY. Goodbye. Toddst1 (talk) 16:18, 22 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So dismissive. It's like you have a personal interest in this. What is the harm in noting Joplin's cover? It is just added to a list and doesn't change the thrust of the Gershwin article. I would say the fact that she performed the song in front of half a million people at Woodstock is notable as well be included in the documentary film. Her cover is not just a run-of-the-mill cover amongst the thousands of covers and is more notable then some of the few listed. Is it because you don't like her rock/blues version and it doesn't fit the jazz mode or follow Gershwin's style? I don't think you should be the final arbiter of whether it should be included. I'd like this to be decided by dispute resolution and would appreciate you letting me know how to go about this. Bearcat53 (talk) 16:57, 22 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
WP:DR is <- that way. However, this cover was discussed about 8 years ago - see archive at Talk:Summertime_(George_Gershwin_song)/Archive_1#Big_Brother_and_the_Holding_Company - which is why Joplin's versions are not included in the article. Toddst1 (talk) 22:48, 23 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
