Currently working on an aticle that explores Gender inequality in the Caribbean region. The intent of this article is to add to the already growing knowledge on Wikipedia about gender inequality and to add to the information about the Caribbean. The issue of gender inequality in the Caribbean is unique for a number of reasons. Health care also adds an interesting dynamic to gender inequality in the region. The workforce is also another area of interest. In many areas of the workforce female representation is also lacking in the top positions. Based on compiled research and a semester worth of intensive course work in Poverty, Gender, and Human Development, I aim to provide information about gender relations and disparities, in the region as well as its implications. I will focus on the areas of health care, education, and gender disparities in the workforce, with a strong focus on the islands of the English speaking Caribbean.

I would appreciate any help and suggestions that would add to this page.

Hi. Welcome to Wikipedia. I think gender inequality in the Caribbean will be a positive addition to the encyclopaedia.

The easiest place to start working is in a sandbox, of course, but there's nothing wrong with beginning the article as a stub. Just bear in mind that it needs to look like an encyclopaedia article (even a very short one) from the very beginning. Think about something that's clear and to the point.

One important thing to bear in mind though is that the goal here isn't to synthesise information and draw new insights. The main goal here is to document what's out there, what people have written, and present it in a balanced fashion. In an essay, your voice is important. Here it's the opposite - your voice should be nearly invisible, and ideally, the reader shouldn't know your point of view on the matter.

A good starting point would be to try to boil it all down to one or two sentences. The normal (not always very good) way to start an article would be with something like: Gender inequality in the Caribbean is... So that means you need to be more creative. Something like: In the Caribbean, gender inequality (the disparity between individuals based on gender) is widespread and manifests itself in {the following ways, which you would list}"

With that you have a lead, something that asserts some notability, though not a lot. If you have a source, it would be good to add one right away. Not only does it force you to think about sourcing everything you write, it also makes you look more credible to other people who discover the page.

Next you need a ==References== section. In that section, add the following template: {{reflist}}. That way, when you add inline citations, they will be displayed properly.

Next thing, think of some categories and stub tags. Don't worry too much about it - if you get them wrong, people will show up to help sort them out. There are people who care a lot about things ending up in the right stub classes and categories. These people are your friends :). The categories on the Gender inequality are worth looking at. You should also go over to Category:Caribbean and see if you can figure out what the best category there might be.

Now you want to start adding content. Using sections makes it easy to add content, easy to edit content, and helps visualise what the overall structure of the article might be. You might want to start with some background or history. Or you might want to dive in with a section that gets straight to the point - how are women treated differently in the Caribbean. Of course, given the differences from island to island and language to language, you might want to break it down a bit more. But that can always wait. On the other hand, you might want to dive into one specific island right away. That's fine too - yes, it will unbalance the article, at least for a while, but if you keep working at filling out the article, no one will (probably) mind.

New medical organization

sources and your recent edits at Diseases of poverty

Hi,

I notice that some of the references you're using for this article are small studies or primary sources. Although this is both understandable and common practice, it is also somewhat discouraged. WP:MEDMOS and WP:MEDRS both encourage the use of secondary sources, e.g. review papers, for inclusion in medical articles like Diseases of poverty. Other than that minor quibble, I very much like the work that you have done on this (and other) article(s). I welcome questions, as does WP:MED generally, so please feel free to ask on my talk page, or on WT:MED.

So it looks like shortly after I posted that, Doc James reverted it, for the same reason. It looks also like you re-posted the same material, more or less verbatim, just a few minutes ago.

Although I believe you to be editing in good faith, I would encourage you to take a look at WP:MEDMOS and WP:MEDRS, also linked above. I would also encourage you to take a look at WP:3RR. Your contributions are substantial, and very much valued, but for medical articles there is a higher bar for sources, which helps to ensure that only the most solid information makes it into the WP:MED articles, of which this is one.

It may also be useful to discuss this on the WikiProject:Medicine Talk page, at WT:MED.
