Signature[edit]

This is a VERY common issue with new editors, no one's going to hold it against you! If you'd like a suggestion, you could try the script Wikipedia:WikiProject User scripts/Scripts/qSig. Assuming you haven't edited your "skin" (so the page looks non-standard), just edit User:Bennydigital/vector.js. If you add the following

sigText = '~~'+'~~'; //Straight Sig

importScript('Wikipedia:WikiProject User scripts/Scripts/qSig'); //sig reminder

Then a little button to add your sig appears, and it reminds you if you should be including it! Have a look at the scripts I use User:Worm That Turned/vector.js, see if any others take your fancy Worm 16:22, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Update and Citations[edit]

Hi Bennydigital, how's it going? Just thought I'd pop in and let you know I'm still around. Still nothing major I'm worried about, you'll be pleased to hear, you're shaping up to be a very good editor and hopefully your Entropy/Send them article will survive deletion. I see someone mentioned to you about copy/paste moves and I think you've taken that on board. There's some very good reasons behind not doing copy/paste moves, I'm happy to discuss them with you if you like. The biggest point is attribution, which is essential under the license Wikipedia uses.

Also, I was looking at King of the Hill (board game), it's a new one on me - I'm a stratego fan... Anyway, you moved the EL to inline links. All well and good, but they were just direct links to websites, and could be a lot more helpful. I'd suggest you look at using refTools (under My Preferences --> Gadgets) and trying a cite template. In this case, {{Cite web}} would be the one you were after. You don't have to fill in everything, but access date lets people know what version of the page you're looking at and title gives a lot more context to the user. Worm 13:32, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers! I get the copy and paste thing (now), I imagine it just leaves a lot of wasteful mess around. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens with Entropy, I can only hope, and you've been a great help.

Cheers for the ref help, I had been wondering how those fancy refs are done. I'm just picking some random bits and bobs on Project Wikify at the moment, cause it seems about my level. The ref thing sounds very useful (as is the new phone I have- I was limited to BBC and one or two other sites on my work internet!) Let me know if I drop any massive clangers, or if you see something fun to get involved in (Project Bacon looks very fun...)

Bennydigital (talk) 15:09, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wasteful mess, certainly. More that you lose attribution, so you don't know who wrote the article in the first place and causes legality issues. Have a look at WP:CC-BY-SA, which is mentioned every time you hit the save button.
Project Wikify is a great place to go if you fit in. I work in a competative manner so things like Wikicup or it's Bacon equivalent motivate me. You've missed the deadling for this year's wikicup, but there are always drives going on and if that's to sort of think that'll help you, get involved. I can let you know some suggestions if you like, but have a look at the project behind any articles that interest you - that might be a good place to look. Worm 16:01, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Bennydigital, just a quick Monday afternoon Hi. Just realised you're interested in music, so have a snoop at Go Girl (Ciara song) and Like a Surgeon (Ciara song) if you ever have time. Looks like there was a little edit warring going on, which is the wrong way to handle things here, but you may have a thought on the debate. It looks like things have died down there now, but the edit warrer is about to be unblocked, so it might happen again. On another note, have you got your head around watchlists? Going along ok?[edit]

Hello there! Just thought I pop in and say Hi. No real news, your contributions look good and everything seems to be progressing. I've had a little fiddle with Template:The Rapture, so that it fits onto one page - there's a template called {{·}} which does that. Hope that's ok. How's things with you, any questions, still enjoying wikipedia? I'm getting a little more into mentoring/introducing people to wikipedia, so any feedback from your experiences would be good. By the way, I'm looking into creating an adoption centre, which will have a a bit of reading material and a few tests to ensure your happy with editing and will let you know when you are ready to "graduate" from adoption. Would this be something you'd be interested in? WormTT 08:57, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That sounds fantastic. Anything basic I can offer help with? Cheers for the heads up on the template! Thanks for the feedback on what I'm doing- it's not just good for the learning, it really helps with my confidence with this sort of thing! Keep me posted on noobiversity, sounds like a great idea! Bennydigital (talk) 09:02, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Noobiversity, I like that! Well, at the moment, I'm thinking what sort of lessons should be necessary and what sort should be optional. For example, I think there should be a necessary one on copyright and an optional one on the "Basics", depending on how experienced the person is when they join up. But from your point of view, what lessons do you think would be helpful? Oh, and I know what you mean about confidence, it took me ages before I was happy to actually do anything... WormTT 09:27, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
My own thoughts are that a good course and explanation of tag markup language would be great as an optional course. Them young folk probably never dealt with messageboards back in the day, and it is fairly daunting at first (I hadn't touched the stuff for a good few years myself, and I was a little scared!). And a good catch all guide to the basics of Wikiquette, so you can tell the difference between cliques and brusque help! Bennydigital (talk) 14:45, 23 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sound sensible to me. I'll be working on it tonight, so you may hear more tomorrow! WormTT 14:52, 23 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it looks like I have a beginnings of an adoption HQ! Feel free to come and have a look, at User:Worm That Turned/Adopt, and your personal area at User:Worm That Turned/Adopt/Bennydigital WormTT 23:11, 23 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Right, I've substituted the first lesson across to User:Worm That Turned/Adopt/Bennydigital. It's pretty basic, have a read, check your understanding, let me know if you're happy. I'll stick some questions in so that I know you're thinking in line with the community. There's no rush on this, I was expecting a module a week because I'd say that the mentorship should take 2-3 months. I know you've already been mentored for a month or so, but I'm pretty sure that you'll fly through they modules from your editing so far. WormTT 11:16, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
This Tireless Contributor Barnstar is given to Bennydigital for wikifying 24 articles, a total of 20,838 words. Thanks for participating, and please be sure to help out at our next drive! Sumsum2010·T·C·Review me! 05:39, 5 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! In this edit to the article Governmentality, you apparently intended to change the inline source notes to be wiki refs, but for "burchell2" you only added a ref name, and for both "burchell1" and "burchell2" you inserted those ref-names in place of several different source notes. Would you please revisit the article and repair this edit? Thanks. - Salamurai (talk) 03:08, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
