A tag has been placed on US Peace Memorial Foundation (2005), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. —C.Fred (talk) 14:43, 7 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 14:50, 7 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

{{unblock|1= Please unblock my account. When I tried to add the organization I was blocked for (in 2005), I thought I was following the guidelines for Wikipedia entries. Since participating in an edit-thon, asking dozens of questions to the moderators, and reading everything I could about how Wikipedia works, I feel the block is no longer necessary. I like making minor changes, like correcting grammar and spelling; that's my way of contributing. In addition, I was never paid for any minor change I made. Thank you - Beverly Lowenstein (an old, mainframe programmer).--Bevflowen (talk) 19:29, 7 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Hi. I didn't know what I was doing when I tried to post. Now I'm trying to volunteer with the Smothsonian Women In Arts, and I'd like to learn. I need a new username to do it. Mercy, please. Bev

Decline reason:

Procedural decline only. Significant time has passed without an answer to the follow-up questions posed below. Please post a new unblock request if you would like to pursue an unblock. Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 21:08, 15 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The current username is acceptable; no further name change is required. However, I would ask you to comment in a little greater detail on why your previous edits were inappropriate and how your future edits will differ. Huon (talk) 20:46, 5 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

In reply to your email: You cannot leave messages on my talk page when you're blocked, but you can edit this page (there should be an "edit" tab at the top). I'm not quite sure what you meant by "credentials", but I don't think it refers to the two problems we had with your contributions: The unduly promotional nature, and the copyright issues. I'm not sure writing about women in arts would automatically avoid both issues, so you should comment on those problems and how you would deal with them in the future. Huon (talk) 00:13, 6 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
In reply to your second email: I'm not quite sure what problem you have with editing this page. You do see the "Edit" tab at the top, between "Read" and "New section"? That should work. And I don't think anybody accused you of "evil intent", but we want to be reasonably sure that the problems you ran into won't recur when you edit again. Huon (talk) 22:30, 6 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Hi, don't know if I'm doing this correctly. I was blocked in 2005 because I didn't know what I was doing and I posted an organization I shouldn't have posted. I was was unblocked a few years ago so I could participate in the Smithsonian Women in the Arts Edit-thon. Then I got a new laptop and after everything was transferred to the new laptop, I didn't know my Wikipedia p/w (which was stored in old laptop), so I tried to log in too many times with an incorrect p/w. At least I think that's what caused the block. The only things I did since then was making minor changes to pages when the spelling or punctuation bugged me. I'd like to use the sandbox feature, so is there any way I can get a new p/w? Honestly, since the Edit-thon I've only fixed spelling and added/deleted commas ... Thank you, Beverly Lowenstein

Decline reason:

This account started out as User:Uspmf2015. It created US Peace Memorial Foundation (2005) and User:Uspmf2015/sandbox/USPMF info page. Both were deleted under WP:CSD#G11-- unambiguously promotional. I see spamacious edits HERE and HERE, and HERE. Hence the blocks for promotional user name with promotional edits. The year was 2015 rather than 2005.

I see no edits connected w/ Women in Red. I see no account with the name "BevFEdits". Please make sure the spelling is correct.

Holding the possible socking in abyeance:

  • you must confirm that this account is used by one individual only
  • you must agree to avoid creating or directly editing articles related to your organisation, i.e. US Peace Memorial Foundation (2005). requested edits will still be permitted)
  • you must agree to abide by the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use and disclose any paid relationship in accordance with the paid contributor policy
  • you must indicate what areas of Wikipedia you intend to edit in the future.
  • You must also affirm that you will not add any content copyrighted elsewhere, even if you feel you have permission from the copyright holder.
  • Please list any other accounts you have used. We will await Huon for the WP:SOCK concerns, he may have more to add.
  • Are you the same person who made those original edits in 2015?   Dlohcierekim (talk) 22:04, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

That sounds as if you had used multiple accounts; this account was blocked in 2015 for a username issue that has since been resolved, for promotional edits and for copyright issues, was never unblocked, and didn't contribute to any edit-a-thons. Please list any other accounts you have used besides this one so that we can more adequately assess the situation. Huon (talk) 19:48, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

{{ Hi, Huon - I hope this message gets to you. I find the whole Wiki process SO CONFUSING! I powered up my old laptop (still haven't cleaned it to donate), and I found the ID I used for Women in the Arts. The ID is BevFEdits. Problem is, I have no idea what the p/w was. What should I do? I don't know if BevFEdits is usable or not. At the Edit-thon, we all created short user pages, but mine isn't there anymore (no loss). I appreciate your help, really! Beverly}} @Huon: as it looks ike user tried to ping Huon.  Dlohcierekim (talk) 21:42, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It took me an extensive search. The edit-a-thon was not with the Smithsonian but with the National Museum of Women in the Arts. And your username wasn't BevFEdits but BevFayeL. I have blocked that account for block evasion, and I'm not at all happy that you wrote to me that "If you or Wiki does not want to reinstate my right to learn how to do editing, so be it" while I was trying to work with you to get the block resolved - just to then avoid addressing the issues that led to your original block while evading it. I would have been willing to let all of that slide and to blame it on a new editor not quite knowing what they're doing; however, your new account also returned to promotional editing on the very subject on which this account engaged in promotional editing - showing that you either haven't understood the problem with your conduct or just don't care. That was precisely why I was wary to unblock this account back in 2017. If Dlohcierekim hadn't declined your unblock request in the meantime, I'd have done so now. Huon (talk) 14:23, 7 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I tend toward concrete literalism in my thinking, and this looked clearly like a case where my User:Dlohcierekim/decline promo renamed applied with a dash of wait-and-see thrown in on the socking.  Dlohcierekim (talk) 16:04, 7 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

{{ Huon - I'm a once-in-a-blue-moon editor. When I correct a comma, it's usually in a listing I stumbled on. I didn't mean to offend you with the "so be it" comment; I was feeling deflated after spending time with my elderly mother (I'm a senior citizen, too). I think Wikipedia is a worldwide treasure, and if I can adjust a comma, I feel like I'm contributing. I just with there was a "Wikipedia for Dummies" guide I could buy. And I'm a concrete literalist, too, so I can see where I offended. 1. I am the only person who used BevFayeL; when I got a new laptop, I didn't have the right p/w written anywhere because it was auto-saved in the old laptop. I might be able to get it from a sticky note on the old laptop. 2. My conduct: I'm a peace activist, and I sometimes read the various listings of peace organizations and their founders. If I see minor errors in grammar or punctuation, I fix them. Or I will add a new award to a listing. I do not get paid for any of this. A few years ago I tried to add a page for the Peace Memorial Foundation, but I had no clue of what to do. I deserved to be blocked. 3. If one of the peace organization founders, like David Swanson, asks me to change a date for him, am I allowed to do it? Again, I am not paid for this. 4. Areas I might edit, if permitted: Medea Benjamin, David Swanson, Michael D. Knox. And random things I look at that have misplaced commas or bad grammar/spelling. 5. I will not attempt to add anything that is copyrighted. 6. My other account was Bevflowen. I prefer to use BevFayeL is possible. I hope I don't have any more accounts. 7. RE: original edits in 2015 -- if you're referring to Women in the Arts Edit-thon, yes, I made the edits. I was in a supervised group. Again, thanks for your help and your instruction. You've explained a lot of things to me. Bevflowen (talk) 16:39, 8 July 2019 (UTC) Beverly }} Bevflowen (talk) 16:39, 8 July 2019 (UTC) Beverly Lowenstein[reply]

You're welcome to request another review of your block via the {{unblock|your reason here}} template. That said, since we haven't even gotten around to cleaning up the last round of spam you added to the Michael D. Knox article and you do not appear to see the problems with your past edits, I do not think unblocking you would be beneficial to the encyclopedia. (As an aside, while I cannot tell whether you hold a paid position, you are closely affiliated with the Peace Memorial Foundation and clearly have a conflict of interest regarding the Foundation, affiliated personnel, and of course also other acquaintences who might ask you to edit Wikipedia on their behalf.)
