Problem[edit]

You can not put a "promotional" image on an article (Ford Falcon) if a "fair use" image is available. I am changing it back to what it was. R.E. Ford Falcon main image[edit]

Question = I am fairly new to this whole thing so, If a similar picture was uploaded as fair use would it be acceptable?

Answer = Yes, but it has to follow the fair use guidelines

Question = If an official picture of the car can not be used, then I would suggest that an image of a BFII is found to replace the BA now used, as it would be best to feature the current model and since this picture is also being used as the feature on the BA Falcon page.

Answer = No, you must keep the old BA Falcon picture on the article. An example is the Lincoln Town Car article, on this particular article a late model Lincoln is pictured instead of the new one.

Actually both of Senator's responses are incorrect. Fair-use images can only be used if it is not possible to create a free alternative (i.e. a historic moment). It does not really matter what image you use in the main infobox either. The highest quality image or most notable model is preferable, and there is no definite rule stating that you MUST use the most recent instalment of a particular model. Regarding that message[edit]

They seem to be rather biased, and contains incorrect information (as per the figures I found), Falcon outsold Commodore from 1982 until the VT was launched. Falcon engines at many times have either matched or surpassed the output of Commodore engines (Mainly the I6, but sometimes the V8 as well). And I am not sure if Commodore is Australia's best seller of 'all time'. Falcon had been selling for almost 20 years before Commodore was first released.

Ford Falcon revision undo[edit]

Hi Bigal 250, I noticed that you undid my revision to the Ford Falcon article. Although it may look like I removed an awful lot of content, really we do not need such huge infoboxes cluttering up the article body. If you feel that they are vital - then you may want to consider creating sub-articles on each model and placing them in there. In addition, the article is full of easily replaceable, fair-use images. In some cases there are free alternatives that can be used, but you have still included the fair-use ones (e.g. the AU and EL Falcon). Secondly, there is no need for the section on the Ford Territory, because it already has its own article. Instead, just make a note about in the lead. The Ford Performance Vehicles section is probably better suited to the Ford Australia article, and Falcons in motorsport probably warrants a separate article. I would also consider axing the police cars sections, and the Falcons in popular culture section, as both sections serve little significance to the article. If you feel that the police car section is necessary, at least make into a separate article.

The external links section also in desperate needed of a trim, full of forums and links. Ideally, they should be substituted with references - something that the article is lacking in severely. There is also no need for the overview section, as it should be transferred into the lead - which is essentially an overview of the article anyway. Sorry to rave on. I have again reverted your edits to Ford Falcon, however this time due to the overuse of automotive timelines. Something that you must understand is that the article needs to serve as a summary of the Falcon history. There is little or no need to include unnecessary details about the car, such as exact trim levels. I would have nothing against you incorporating that kind of information into individual article (i.e. Ford BA Falcon), but it would have to be in prose, and not lists/tables/timelines, etc. If you took the time to read Holden VE Commodore, you would notice that it included just about everything one would need to know about the car. It is besides the point how much time you spent working on the templates, as the fact is they don't belong there. "Most of the models don't have separate pages" just does not cut it as an excuse, since there is nothing stopping you from creating these articles. Just look at Volkswagen Golf, a prime example of an article that includes all sorts of unnecessary data. The bloated infoboxes, redundant timelines and image galleries do not equate to a high quality article, nor does this information make sense to those with little or no knowledge about the subject in question. If you continue editing like this, the Falcon article will be just like it.

Also, let me clarify this: an encyclopaedia is a summary - as it need not go into high detail, and should be in prose where possible. If you want to improve the article, consider sourcing and rewriting sections like those that I have been doing, it is only this that will get the article to featured article status. If writing is not your thing, you may want to consider improving the project by photographing cars. The possibilities are endless.

With the timeline, I do see your point, however Ford vehicles are not where I specialise in greatly, and I have limited knowledge about the marque on vehicles besides the two mentioned. Secondly, why should it have to be complete? Find me a policy on Wikipedia that states that you must complete an article or template before saving, as I can assure you that you will never find one.
