Hello, Billionsandbillions, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Shalor and I work with the Wiki Education Foundation; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. Deletion discussion about Yiğit Kolat[edit]

Hello, Billionsandbillions,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Yiğit Kolat should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Yiğit Kolat .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Thanks,

Dom from Paris (talk) 17:04, 20 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi! I received a notification about this. Something to be careful about with as far as notability goes is to make sure that you have enough coverage in independent, reliable sources to establish notability. Primary sources can be used to back up basic information, however they cannot show notability. Something else to be aware of is that not all awards are considered to be major enough to show notability on Wikipedia - this doesn't mean that the awards and honors aren't a feat to be admired, just that Wikipedia's standards tend to be fairly high. Avoid self-published sources, as those typically do not have the type of editorial oversight that Wikipedia wants on Wikipedia, nor are they considered to be reliable sources in places like academic texts or journals. Asymptote isn't bad, but it's one source and isn't enough to show notability. I'll see if I can help find anything, but it's possible that it's just a little too soon for Kolat to have an article.
