Europe Discussion

[edit]

Hello.

On this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Europe#Population_of_Europe you said this

UK not in Europe

Geographically, it's in Europe, but definitely not culturally!!!

And I just wanna say, if you think the way you do, then no one is being European. Since we have like waaaay to many cultures in Europe to say that "This is an European culture"... Don't you agree? The Swedish culture differs from Spains and so on.

(The above, excluding the quote, was written by Radikal08, on the 11th of August, but not signed)

Thanks for getting back to me, Radikal08. Sorry about the long wait, I've been busy! On the subject of culture, you are right. Culturally, some countries now considered "European" have almost clashing cultures, without meaning to be offensive. For example, half of Russia is considered to be European. Russia is communist, and we in England, for example, are capitalist.
Also, the people have vastly different origins: The Romanians, for example come from a vastly different group of people to the Scandinavians. To be classed under European is to have a generalisation of a country's culture.
What I meant by "definitely not culturally" were facts like acceptance of the Euro as a currency, the basis of languages such as Spanish and Portuguese are at least passingly similar to French, etc. I know this has been a long wait, thanks for bearing with me!
