Hi again. I appreciate that you are interested in improving bioinformatics-related articles. However, Wikipedia has had problems in the past with individuals linkspamming to the molecularstation site. As a result, molecularstation links receive more scrutiny than normal. Once it starts providing more content, we would be happy to reconsider including it as an external resource (following a brief discussion on the article Talk page). Right now, it still seems to be primarily a link directory. We would much rather include the actual sources (e.g. PubMed, EMBL, etc.) rather than a directory. Of course, if those sources are not encyclopedia-worth individually, then a collection of those resources wouldn't be any more appropriate for inclusion. --Alan Au 19:00, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RNA bioinformatics[edit]

Thanks for contributing! Unfortunately, RNA bioinformatics does not currently appear to have widespread acceptance within the research community, with only ~230 Google hits [1] ~~and zero PubMed hits [2]~~. Is this how you welcome new memebrs by deleting contributions? You mention on my talk page that RNA Bioinformatics has "zero hits" on Pubmed. Are you sure you know how to do PubMed searches? Are you sure you know how many articles came up? I received 1424. If you are not an expert on Bioinformatics why do you edit a Bioinformatics page? "RNA Bioinformatics" obviously has zero hits on pubmed as it is a general category, not something people write about on pubmed. Similarly, "Protein Bioinformatics" on pubmed only gets 6 hits from the database, although it has been used in hundreds of thousands of articles. Learn to use pubmed appropriately, and you should welcome new members which may not know everything about wikipedia, but may know much more than you about Bioinformatics and Science. For all you know a new member could be a professor of Bioinformatics, and for all I know you could be a high school student. Also, if you people have any reasons to not want good resources on wikipedia simply because you are webmasters of a competing site, I will make sure to report you to wikipedia authorities as what I am posting is not linkspam and I was contributing information to the article and not only posting external links. -- Bioinformin

I'm sorry you're not feeling welcome here. I had hoped that my other comment might direct you to the Wikipedia editing guides and policy pages. I also encourage you to take a look at the Wikipedia:Civility policy before engaging in active debates with other editors. Whether you're a professor or a high school student, your track record will speak for itself. Unfortunately, since we've had a problem with the molecularstation site in the past, additions by novice users are automatically subject to increased scrutiny. Again, if you want to make a case for inclusion of your link, you may do so on the article Talk page. Ad hominem attacks and threats to "report you to Wikipedia authorities" will NOT achieve the desired result, and if you insist on intimidating people, you will find yourself unwelcome here. --Alan Au 02:41, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
As for the PubMed reference, it's quite likely that you missed the "Quoted phrase not found." portion of the results page. All the same, since PubMed results are finicky and difficult to interpret properly, I will retract that portion of the complaint. --Alan Au 02:41, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
