Move[edit]

SilkTork or RegentsPark could one of you please move User:Blackash/John Krubsack and it's talk page to the wiki main space with the history of editing intact? As I have no idea how to do while maintaining the history of editing. Thanks in advance for any help offered. Blackash (talk) 19:52, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Blackash: You should be able to do this yourself. Use page move (don't copy paste) and the history will be preserved. --RegentsPark (comment) 22:09, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • What we call moving a page is actually just renaming it. This is normally simple to do, see Wikipedia:Moving_a_page#How_to_move_a_page. However, in this case the name John Krubsack already exists as a redirect, so would need to be deleted, which only an admin can do. The original article was deleted in 2020 as a copyvio, and a version without text was moved to the current name. The name was recreated later in 2020 as a redirect. I'll need to look closer at this before doing the move. If I've not done it in a couple of days, please nudge me. SilkTork (talk) 01:27, 8 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The article was deleted because it was copying material too closely. This is still the case: [1]. I can't move it as it is. Please rewrite, making sure that the text is a summary of the sources, not merely a copy, and then ask someone other than me to move it for you. SilkTork (talk) 15:12, 8 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the info and links. Blackash (talk) 02:08, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for picking that up, SilkTork – this page is on my watchlist but I'd not noticed it. Blackash, it is just not OK to copy text directly from your sources (that is WP:copyright violation), or indeed to copy text with only minimal changes – please see WP:close following. You may use the facts, ideas and concepts of the source, but they must be expressed entirely in your own words. I've removed some bits of copied stuff, and also a long quotation; brief quotations are acceptable if they are the subject of discussion in the text, long quotations should be avoided (they may be acceptable on Wikiquote). This applies to all your edits, not just this page. Thanks, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 09:47, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for this, looking back over my edits I see where I stuffed it up. I'll will insure in the future to double check before publishing the changes and again afterwards. Blackash (talk) 18:17, 23 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
