Sonya Ballantyne

Major revisions needed.

• Nice work finding an important filmmaker who is not yet on Wikipedia. However, major revisions are needed before you move this work to mainspace.
• References: The TEDx talk and Code Breaker Films sites are not independent and IMDb is not reliable. Add at least two additional reliable and independent secondary sources. Use the library’s subscription databases.
• Add more information about the Winnipeg Free Press article in the References section, including the date, title, and URL.
• Make the bold headings into official headings. (Select the text, go to “Paragraph” and change to “Heading.”)
• Refer to the filmmaker by her last name, not first name.
• In the Early Life section and anytime you relate her feeling and thoughts, preface with context: e.g. “In a 2017 TEDx talk in Winnipeg, Ballantyne stated that…”

Hi! I have some notes:

• This needs editing for tone, as this comes across as kind of promotional and non-neutral. It's best to avoid terms like "award winning" since this is typically used to promote something or someone and there are better ways to get this information across. It's really important that anything that sounds like an opinion or subjective statement is clearly attributed to the person making the claim and followed up with the source it's pulled from. Phrases like "strived" are also common PR terms.

• Avoid original research - we can only summarize what has been explicitly stated in the source material. We cannot create our own reflections, connections, or opinions, even if they seem obvious.

• Make sure to stick to a formal writing style and avoid things like "that being said", as it's too casual of a tone. It can also make an article seem promotional or make an article seem non-neutral.

• This needs some work with the sourcing. IMDb is not usable as a source, as anyone can edit and add information - the site actually has a history of people deliberately adding incorrect information to the site. One of the sources is also incomplete, as all that is added is the names of the journalist and newspaper - there needs to be info about the title and when it was published as well, at the very least. There could also be more sources as well.

Actually, I was not assigned to edit your article, but one of my assigned articles is unavailable, so I just assign myself another article randomly. Overall, I think you did a great job. You have a nice lead paragraph and a clear structure, but there are still some revisions needed. I only made some small changes, and here are my suggestions about how it can be improved.

Firstly, it seems that you do not have enough reliable sources. You mainly cited from TEDx Talk which is all about how Ballantyne described her own life. I recommend finding more reliable sources about how other people described Ballantyne’s life and making your article more neutral. Secondly, if you cannot find other sources, you can dig more information with the sources you have. For example, according to your reference, "Rising Star - Sonya Ballantyne," it mentioned that Ballantyne “recently won the 2016 Short Film Pitch competition at ImagineNative Film Festival” which you did not include in your article. In addition, there is an unavailable link in your reference list. Please correct the red error. I hope that my advice would be helpful to you!
