June 2016[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Jeh. I noticed that you recently removed some content from Violet (color) without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. ("Removed first sentences" is not explanation of why.) Jeh (talk) 01:00, 14 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

My bad, I now realize that the explanation was not sufficient. Other articles about color begin with its corresponding position on the wavelength. It may be not as appropriate to begin the article by describing other objects that have the color, violet. Since the second paragraph began with the wavelength, I assumed that someone placed the two sentences in the lead by accident. Blue Adventure (talk) 02:41, 14 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
In that case you probably should have moved the sentences you thought were misplaced, instead of deleting them outright. There is, however, no requirement that all articles about members of a class of things follow the exact same pattern of exposition. In fact, some variation helps to avoid giving an impression of mechanically generated, formulaic prose. Jeh (talk) 03:00, 14 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I do agree that variation is helpful under some circumstances. Thank you for letting me know about this information; it really does help me learn! Blue Adventure (talk) 04:29, 14 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome, and thank you for your understanding. Jeh (talk) 07:42, 14 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
