Malcolm Mejin

[edit]

Hi Bluemoon, I've userfied Malcolm Mejin to User:Bluemoon989/Malcolm Mejin. You can work on this article in your userspace without it being deleted. To have it restored as a "regular" Wikipedia article, you will have to apply via WP:DRV. Before then though, please add more references and evidence of notability. See WP:N & WP:RS for details. You might want to read Wikipedia:Your first article, as well. Wikipedia:Editor assistance/Requests is a good place to ask if you have questions. Thanks, Mark Arsten (talk) 16:59, 22 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

{{help me}}I have edited the page on Malcolm Mejin. Is it ready for deletion review or undeletion? Kindly advise. Thank you. Bluemoon989 (talk) 03:36, 6 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I would continue to work on it. Stubs are okay, but that is very short. You have a good start but I would do a little more before moving it back into mainspace. Inka888 05:27, 6 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Can somebody help me refine or edit this article, if it needs any refining? Thanks. Bluemoon989 (talk) 04:45, 7 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

From this discussion, it looks like Malcolm Mejin doesn't have lots of media coverage yet. It seems like his books are lacking reviews and other secondary sources that have (positively or negatively) criticized his works. Those are the kind of sources that need to be found, used, and cited in this article (in my humble opinion) for it to pass deletion review. You may want to search popular literary criticism publications for this kind of material. It's possible that such sources simply don't exist for Mejin, as a young author. It may simply be too soon for a Wikipedia article to be written about him. I hope this information is helpful. - ʈucoxn\talk 06:48, 7 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The author doesn't appear to be on a international scale of fame as an author. But I was wondering if he merits a Wikipedia article, based on his works being covered nationally (but not internationally, of course he's not a Stephen King or anything). I've browsed some Malaysian authors on Wikipedia and they do merit articles on Wikipedia, even though they do not have fair coverage, for eg. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuah_Guat_Eng or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laila_Kamilia. I've googled them. Maybe they are not internationally well-known, but they do merit an article for some coverage in their mainland? Can somebody enlighten me on this? I'm afraid Wikipedia is not very consistent about things like this, hence the essay WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. The relevant standards are the WP:General notability guideline (see also WP:42 for an interpretation) and WP:Notability (people), particularly the section WP:AUTHOR. AUTHOR is a tough standard, and is certainly not applied consistently. I doubt whether either of the ones you list would pass AfD, but the outcome there is unpredictable. On the one hand, we do not necessarily want an article about everyone who has written a book and got a couple of mentions in their local paper, and we do not want to be used for promotion; on the other, people are anxious to avoid systemic bias in favour of Western authors. It all turns on a subjective judgement of what is significant coverage. As Mejin has been deleted at AfD, you will have to go to WP:Deletion review before it can be republished. The best advice I can give is, find all the sources you can, and then consider whether you have improved it enough over the deleted version that you have a good case for review.
