Hello Bobnewton. If you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Bob Newton (footballer), you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors; and
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

Mr. Newton I have blocked this account for making a legal threat in this edit [1]. Wikipedia does not allow users to simultaneously edit and take or threaten legal action, see WP:NLT. This block does not endorse or condemn the information you are seeking to remove. It is purely procedural. At this point you have two choices. If withdraw the threat of legal action you may attempt to handle the issue here on Wikipedia following dispute resolution, or you may pursue the issue outside normal Wikipedia channels. I understand that editing Wikipedia for the first time can be difficult, confusing and emotional especially on topic related to one's self. If you have any questions at all please post them here and myself and others will do our best to answer them. Have a nice day. --Daniel 16:19, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

My Solicitor is advising me to track down the creator in the UK of the libellous article. It is not a legal threat against wikipedia as such. Read my email correctly and you realise this point.
Hi. The concern isn't that the threat is against Wikipedia itself. Our policy is to block for any legal threats involving Wikipedia articles because having a threat of legal action over the heads of editors prevent the main goals of Wikipedia to produce a neutral point of view free encyclopedia. NPOV doesn't mean there isnt any negative information, it only means the article is properly balanced. Unless the threat is redacted or legal action has run it's course, our no legal threats policy has to be enacted. Us editors are exactly like you, volunteers not affiliated with Wikipedia who edit the project. We don't represent Wikipedia, you'll have to work with the foundation via email. We understand the frustration and wish you luck solving this whichever way it goes.--v/r - TP 16:39, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
