Hello[edit]

Hello Bonnie, and sorry about the dispute on the alt porn page. The problem is that contrary to your assertions that you own the image in question, it is hosted on Flickr by the SuicideGirls account under a Creative Commons free licence here. SuicideGirls have contacted us affirming that the Flickr account is theirs and that they own the copyright to the image. So you will either need to contact the Wikipedia image permissions people (permission@wikimedia.org) or better yet SuicideGirls/Flickr and make your case with them; further attempts at removing it directly from Wikipedia will not be productive. Until such time as we have reason to doubt the free licence of the image, we will continue to use it, but as soon as the situation changes we will be swift to comply. Hi, thankyou for pointing this out to me. I am trying not to become too irate about it, as it's unfair to everyone involved, however, on a purely personal level, I would ask that another image - of someone else - was used. Is that so much to ask?! Whilst numerous different wiki users have not replaced the image or 'undone' my edit, surely a different but similar image which no one has an issue with being used, can be used? I have attempted to email permission@wikimedia.org but it was immediately returned to me, telling me the address was out of use. As I am not usually a wikipedia user, all the difficulty I am having with contacting anyone directly is driving me insane! I've no clue who originally decided to use my image in this article, but as I previously mentioned, I'd realy appreciate it if someone would be kind enough to simply remove my image and use another? I guess I just don't understand why it's so important that particular image is used? Kind Regards, --Bonniesuicide (talk) 21:54, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again, I think I have a better understanding of where you are coming from now. The reason the image kept getting restored was because there was initially no explanation for the removal, and afterwards a copyright-related explanation that did not seem to fit the facts, not due to some imperative to use this particular image. If I understand you correctly, you would simply rather not be associated with the topic of the article, and if that is the case then I'm sure a case can be made. Is this your position? Or do you want the image deleted from the website entirely?
I am sorry you're having a hard time finding someone to contact – the thing is that there is no one in charge here, just editors like you and I. I can put you in touch with one of the dedicated volunteers who deal with the concerns of people personally affected by the content of the wiki if you like (I should hope this address is functional: info-en-q@wikimedia.org). If you could just confirm your reason for wanting the image removed is personal rather than legal, I can address it immediately (though without a guaranteed outcome). Again, sorry that all this has caused unnecessary stress. Regards,  Skomorokh, barbarian  22:11, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again :) Thankyou, you're actually being incredibly helpful, which I truly appreciate! You are right - because of my lack of understanding about wiki, I intially just panicked and deleted the image. I spoke to someone at SG who told me both them and I owned the image, however this might not be entirely accurate; however on a purely personal level, yes, I would ideally like for the image to be entirely removed from website if possible. I'm currently in talks with SG to see if I can have the image removed also from their Flickr account, and therefore removed from use under creative commons. It seems bizarre to me that on one hand we sign contracts so the images are exclusive, and on the other they are allowing them to be used freely by all and sundry! Anyway, yes, if there was a way you knew of that the image could be replaced by someone else on the 'alt porn' article, ad preferably removed in its entirety from the website, I would be so grateful. Many thanks, Bonniesuicide (talk) 22:28, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Great, I think we're on the same page now. I have removed the image from the articles it was used in, though it is still hosted at Wikimedia Commons (our image-hosting service). The thing with free licences such as Creative Commons is that once you release something under them, you can't take it back – so there is little preventing anyone from using this image for whatever they want. I suppose it was in the fine print when you signed up that SG could relicence as they wished, and there's not much you can do now that the horse has bolted. I will ask a volunteer at Wikimedia Commons to see if there is any we can delete the image entirely, but I can't make any promises on that score. If you ever need assistance with something on Wikipedia again, just type {{helpme}} on this page and someone sympathetic will be along quickly. In any case, I wish you the best of luck with SG and Flickr and getting everything straightened out. Peace,  Skomorokh, barbarian  22:48, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I cannot thank you enough - one of the good guys! I'm speaking to the SG Gods (or whatever they are) about removing it from their Flickr, and as you suggested, I'll contact someone at Wikimedia Commons to see if they can entirely remove the image. Thankyou again! Take it easy Bonniesuicide (talk) 22:52, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, what's up?  Skomorokh, barbarian  23:04, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I was being useless, but I've managed to email someone who'll hopefully be able to figure things out for me! Apologies! I feel like I have too much free time on my hands.. :) Bonniesuicide (talk) 23:10, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No worries, the helpers are bored and sitting around twiddling their thumbs anyway :) Great to hear you've found someone to look into things.  Skomorokh, barbarian  23:12, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I see what the issue is now. Anyways, the reason why I reverted you for the first time (and only time) was that we had permission from SG to use the image on Wikipedia. I was able to read the email they sent to us, which only confirmed the ownership of the Flickr account. If you want, please contact me by email and I can help you further, unless Skomorokh has access to that same email. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 02:45, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
