Update: I did some research today and I've got everything we need to bring this article to FA-status and more, although since you are on the Food project, I feel you are probably more knowledgeable about food topics than I am, whereas I have a lot of knowledge and experience about Hawaii-related topics in general, such as Hawaiian culinary history. I'm hoping you will take a lead role in this article, and allow me to help with the research and data dumps, so that you can manipulate the composition and structure to your preference. To begin with, I would like to start adding books to a separate reference section so that we can cite individual page numbers. The current format doesn't allow me to do this. Also, since you have more experience with the format of food-related articles, perhaps you could compose a task list on the talk page that will allow me to both collaborate and help you achieve the milestones necessary to bring this article to FA. —Viriditas | Talk 03:46, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and I think I was being a little too strict about the Poke image you uploaded. According to the books that I just received, particularly one devoted to Poke and authored by Sam Choy, the photo is acceptable, as there are many variations of Poke to be found. Please feel free to add the image back into the article at your leisure. Sorry about that. —Viriditas | Talk 03:51, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So is it ok to start dropping them in the "Publications" section? I can format them, it's just that some of the sources use multiple page numbers, so it might be best to use the Harvard style...or not. Whatever works for you is fine. :) —Viriditas | Talk 08:48, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm open to new and different styles, so don't be afraid to put your foot down! :) And please, please, please, leave some kind of to-do or task list on the talk page so I can follow the path. And don't be afraid to rewrite anything I add. :) —Viriditas | Talk 09:16, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Update: I've got a ton of stuff to discuss with you, but unfortunately, my mouth (or rather my typing hand) is slower than my mind. Is there anyway you can connect to the bioport in the back of my skull? :) —Viriditas | Talk 06:45, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, nothing like the feel of Borg nanotubes coursing through your veins after a good night's regeneration in a comfy alcove. I'm going to try to put together a beta "Local food" section on the talk page as time permits. We can merge plate lunch, Poke, etc. into that, as all my sources basically classify those two under local food, however its not mandatory. Right off the bat I think we should change the names of the "Ancient times" and "Modern times" sections, but there's no hurry on that. I'll give you my reasons later. I like what you've done with the article so far, but the references section would look better (at least smaller) if we moved all the books to pubs, and either used harvard cites for page numbers or plain ref notes. I'm weird that way, but I'm not going to do anything with your refs unless you approve it. I seriously don't know why it bothers me, but it does. :) —Viriditas | Talk 07:00, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Don't be so agreeable! It doesn't bode well for your status as "Queen"! :) —Viriditas | Talk 08:04, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, if you don't like the look of the refs, feel free to revert to the old version or change the columns to suit your taste. —Viriditas | Talk 13:33, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I can tell, neither Island Plate or A hundred years of island cooking have ISBN numbers. You can see an entry for A hundred years of island cooking and a list of cookbooks and culinary history books in the Hawaii State Library collection here. Both books are classified as "Hawaiian nonfiction". And there's a wonderful review of Island Plate here. Both books were designed and published for Hawaii readers only, so there's probably no need for a commercial ISBN. A hundred years of island cooking has been published continually since at least 1991. I believe the Hawaiian Electric Company (HECO) has published many other cookbooks before it, and has played an important role in the culinary community.[1][2] The Honolulu Advertiser published Island Plate, which is a fascinating historical overview of food and cooking in Hawaii based on microfiche archives compiled by Advertiser food critic Wanda Adams, and is a beautiful book from front to back. In all the research I've done on Wikipedia, I've encountered a lot of niche and specialty books in the library system that don't have ISBN numbers. —Viriditas | Talk 02:48, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I'll start adding to the talk page, shortly. You may be able to find some of these books in your library, failing that you can apply for interlibrary loan. Is there a particular subtopic you would prefer that I start with, perhaps something that interests you? —Viriditas | Talk 04:18, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Good question. I'm sure I can help. I just found a neat tidbit that we can add to the modern times section. I'm adding it to the talk page for you now, so you can decide yay or nay. —Viriditas | Talk 04:33, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you like anything I'm adding into the talk page, please add it to the article. —Viriditas | Talk 04:50, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Made a few changes; I hope you don't mind. I'll do another upload of data tonight. I will try and stick to your last request this time. Oh, and I've got a wonderful imu diagram we can use in the article (I'll have to create it from the reference of course) You're going to love it. It's sort of in the vein of a "Imu How-to", so I'll hold off until the article is more stable. —Viriditas | Talk 00:32, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The error was mine, not yours. My paraphrase left out several key terms, hence the confusion. I'll try not to do it again. :) —Viriditas | Talk 02:56, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
FYI... if you don't like the heading I added ("Ancient Hawaii (300 AD – 1778)") please go ahead and change it to something you like. I admit it's a little unwieldly, but I'm trying to figure out a way to inform the reader of the period. There are of course, many ways to do it. If you can find a better way, by all means set me straight. :) —Viriditas | Talk 14:27, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I remember reading somewhere a long time ago that every section heading should be a potential article. Were you going to move this to Pre-contact Hawaii? —Viriditas | Talk 13:09, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Uses is just shorthand for Uses of durian. Look what happens when you have an article like Milky Way (mythology) that fails to do this. —Viriditas | Talk 13:41, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In the case of Milky Way (mythology), each section heading is a potential separate article. It's not linked, so you can't see that, but most of them are there, I checked earlier (Hungarian mythology, Māori mythology). Every section heading is a potential article, not name. Uses of durian could always be split out of Durian#Uses, that's all. The mythology section names should be shortened, sure, but the section headings expand into subarticles, regardless of the name used. —Viriditas | Talk 13:59, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ancient Hawaii and Pre-contact Hawaii are the same thing; either of those titles are fine, I have no concerns with either one. —Viriditas | Talk 14:32, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll try and work on the beef section asap. —Viriditas | Talk 13:24, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. --BorgQueen (talk) 13:33, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There's more to say about the use of beef in ethnic and regional cuisine than in Hawaiian cuisine in general due to its recent emergence, however my sources do have a lot to say about the Samoan preference for beef dishes, which is somewhat outside the scope of this article. I have to logoff now, but I plan on getting to the plate lunch section next. Please check the temp page and see if you want to add anything about the ancient Hawaiian cooking methods to the pre-contact section. —Viriditas | Talk 14:55, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I may have screwed up your refs in the beef section, so if you could take a look at those I would appreciate it. —Viriditas | Talk 15:05, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think it looks fine. --BorgQueen (talk) 15:08, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I know you only have good intentions for this article, but I must ask that you remove the sensationalist crime story concerning the allegation over a stolen dog. That's a good example of OR/NPOV/undue weight. —Viriditas | Talk 04:54, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Barnes' A Concise History of the Hawaiian Islands (1999) is a good tertiary source, and makes for a nice overview of Hawaiian history for tourists (as Barnes himself admits in the preface) but is probably not the best book for this article. Barnes also makes strange claims that deserve greater attention, such as his statement that "many archaeological remains of prehistoric times can still be observed on all of the islands." This claim may sound wonderful to tourists seeking to find "old Hawaii", and of course, that was Barnes' intent, but the fact of the matter is, the vast majority of prehistoric archaeological sites have been completely destroyed, and of those remaining, most are kapu and known only to kahuna and those who keep the secret of their locations. In the course of my research over the years, I have discovered secret sites, but due to my strong sense of ethics I have not released their location nor do I have any plans to do so. I would not recommend relying on Barnes or using it when there are good secondary Hawaiian, academic and culinary sources available. Ilima Loomis' Rough Riders: Hawaii's Paniolo and Their Stories (2006) is an interesting read that supplements the information from Barnes and I will attempt to help replace Barnes with Loomis. You removed some important information regarding Kamuela and Kula from the article that should be put back in as those are important locations in the culture of the Paniolo. The Star Bulletin article has nothing to do with cuisine in Hawaii, and you synthesized this source to support a controversial claim made by Schwabe in 1979, in a book that is devoted to unusual claims. You can't do this. There's also the issue of currency, scholarship, relevance and reliability. There is no information in the newspaper article to even suggest that the people who allegedly ate the dog were Hawaiian or that this is related to the modern cuisine of Hawaii, and the same goes for the 2004 Fujimori article. You can find illegal dog meat stories in the local press of almost every major city in the United States, and neither article says anything about Hawaiian cuisine. As you are probably aware, we have more people from other countries than we do Native Hawaiians, so even suggesting this is related to Hawaiians is baseless. I'm removing both claims until there are additional sources, and I suggest a restructuring of the article to put historical claims in context. I suspect that the detailed description of cooking dog does not have much merit as there is almost no historical evidence available, and I would ask to see the primary sources used by Schwabe. If I had to guess, Schwabe could only be using Captain James Cook's diaries (1784), because I cannot think of any other source for this information. You should also be prepared to support Schwabe's claims with other additional sources. The fact is, cuisine and food-related article to not give undue weight to the details of butchering unless they are significant. Even the three most extensive books on the subject, Laudan (1996), Brennan (2000), and Adams (2006) do not mention it which is important to note. Adams and Laudan in particular, detail the history of Hawaiian cuisine in extensive, mind-numbing detail. Corum (2000) does mention it, but only in passing reference to Ancient Hawaii, and it is in that context that the "dog" section needs to merged into, minus any excessive detail. This also holds true for the entire ingredients section. Dog is not an ingredient in Hawaiian cuisine today, and does not belong in a separate section as if it were. The most damning piece of evidence comes in the footnote attributed to Schwabe: "Dogs native to the Hawaiian Islands were of a short-haired terrier type." Dogs native to Hawaii? Anyone doing the most basic research will discover that Hawaii, strangely enough, only has two native mammals: the Hawaiian Hoary bat (Lasirus cinereus semotus) and the Hawaiian Monk Seal (Monachus schauinslandi). While I could argue that this puts the reliance on Schwabe on shaky footing, I am convinced of the quality of your editorial skills to know that you will make the right decision. —Viriditas | Talk 09:35, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Jeff is apparently unaware of the current situation, and probably doesn't have any idea what is going on. If you cannot reply to my points and yet permit Jeff to repeat the same mistakes, we then have an additional problem. I fail to see how Jeff's reverts have any bearing on this discussion. Jeff is welcome to join this debate, of course. —Viriditas | Talk 10:20, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:SCV page moves

Hey there.

Thanks for the hand with WP:SCV, but page moves done with cut-and-paste are not false positives! The GFDL requires that the article's edit history be moved along the article when they are renamed or changed into a redirect (with a proper move rather than copying the contents of the article).

A cut-and-paste like (Zhang Han (general) from Zhang Han (disambiguation) needs a history merge before it can be removed from the list. — Coren (talk) 14:20, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's the combination of not knowing about the edit history problem, and of a well-intentioned desire to not have the article show up as a redlink during the move. — Coren (talk) 14:31, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just saw your work on Flammability. You have the most awesome name on here. My kids and I always refer to the Borg Queen as "Honeybun" :-) --Achim (talk) 03:14, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Honeybun? Sorry I don't get the joke. :-D --BorgQueen (talk) 03:48, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, when the girls were younger, I could see where the image of her head and spine coming down and being fitted into a body would have been the stuff of nightmares. I introduced her as "honeybun", making her more palatable and now that they're teenagers, it's just funny - at least in our family :-) Anyway, she's one of the coolest characters, even though Janeway gets the better of her on a regular basis.... There has to be something inherently nifty about anyone who chooses that name as a handle --Achim (talk) 03:55, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see. Actually Star Trek series has a lot of stuff that are not suitable for children, especially since the Borg were introduced. But for mature audience, the Borg added an interesting angle to the series. --Honeybun 04:07, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Absolutely. My kids knew about quantum mechanics in grade school though, as well as major history stuff. It robbed them of part of the innocence of childhood, which they bellyached about at some point but now they're glad because in high school they're only catching up to stuff that I already taught them, so it bought them a lot of time for dating. Not sure it was a good idea after all, but they DID thank me.... --Achim (talk) 05:42, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again HoneyBun!

If you have a moment, would you please take a look at this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Suspected_sock_puppets/Ahering%40cogeco.ca

  • This guy is not leaving me alone. I have a website, as you can see on my user page. As a result of that, I routinely communicate with people all over the world on the topic of fire protection. People ask me for opinions on things, advice on products, etc., and sometimes I get called for expert testimony in court cases after a fire or product failure. I have a suspicion of who the person is who I am accused of being a sock puppet for, but I don't know for sure and cannot reveal the identity of a third party. I have a bit of a following in my field of expertise. I think that someone decided to chime in on my behalf here and this person lives several hours away from me. If you have any advice, I'd appreciate it. --Achim (talk) 03:26, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Flammability

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Flammability

Hi Honeybun!

Would you take a look at this anonymous dude who keeps trying to mess with Flammability? It looks like he keeps changing IP numbers. The last entry one just disappeared, like it was never there before. What's up with that?

Best, --Achim (talk) 05:12, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it has been a few days since the IP user edited. If he continues to be disruptive, he can be blocked after warning, or the article semi-protected if he uses a range IP. What do you mean by "The last entry one just disappeared"? --BorgQueen (talk) 06:31, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
When I clicked on the last IP address handle left on that talk page, there was nothing there anymore, as if it never existed. It seems this guy has a way of altering his IP addresses whenever he goes in to vandalise stuff. Check the talk page on flammability. the same fight from the same guy with two different IP addresses.... --Achim (talk) 04:55, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Moonchild.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Moonchild.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 23:29, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wicca article

Many thanks for rating this article as a good one! As you have just looked at it with fresh eyes I wanted to ask your opinion about going for featured article status. We had a peer review in early December 2007 prior to going for GA, so I'm not sure whether to:

  • Ask for another peer review, even though so little time has elapsed
  • Just wait for a while, then ask for another peer review in a few months before submitting for FA
  • Be bold and go right ahead with a FA submission

I'll ask the same questions on the talk page so editors there can voice an opinion too. Many thanks! Kim Dent-Brown (Talk) 12:53, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. Your contributions make Wikipedia better -- thanks for helping.

If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please tell me on SuggestBot's talk page. Thanks from ForteTuba, SuggestBot's caretaker.

P.S. You received these suggestions because your name was listed on the SuggestBot request page. If this was in error, sorry about the confusion. -- SuggestBot (talk) 01:28, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

Hi, I just came here to tell you - you have the most awesome username I have seen on Wikipedia. I also like the image of the cube (only if there were a free image of your namesake... *sigh*). Resistance to this appreciation is completely futile. You rock. Aditya(talkcontribs) 15:49, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DYK note

Hey. When choosing hooks for the next update, try to start with the dates closest to expiration before doing ones on the 20th or so. The backlog's rather mild right now so it's not a big deal, at least you're helping out :) Wizardman 04:17, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am aware of that guideline. But, as you said, the backlog is not so much now, and I am picking more interesting ones. Why don't you participate in moving articles to the update yourself then, if you have different taste/opinions. Cheers. --BorgQueen (talk) 04:20, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings. I'm wondering if you would consider giving me the DYK messagebox for helping substantially expand Mosque of Omar? Or is that only for the creator/nom? Fishing for compliments, yours truly, HG | Talk 06:52, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, ok. Tee hee. You got one. --BorgQueen (talk) 06:59, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Wheee, my first. Thanks! I'm tickled pink. Or something. HG | Talk 07:13, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Could you explain what the "upright" function does? I see it made a difference in the formatting, but I'm not sure how or why. I'm new to image work, so any help you can give would be great! Thanks for helping out at the article! Regards, -- Bellwether BC 08:28, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks for the link! I have watchlisted it, and will reference it often, when formatting the photos I use in the articles I write. And thanks again for doing the work on it at the V'town article! -- Bellwether BC 08:34, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvio on main page.

Just to let you know that I have deleted Image:Victoriatown Map.jpg from Wikipedia, and have subsequently removed it from the main page as it was an obvious copyvio from Google Maps. I have also removed it from Victoriatown for the same reason. Regards. Woody (talk) 20:01, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can you block this sock ip 124.87.134.96?

Hi, BorgQueen, I come across here as you're active. I've been dealing with a long persistent sock ip users's near vandalism. The user has been registered to Japanese Soft Bank network, and his vandalism on Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Amazonfire fourth times with two ip addresses. As the consequence, the ip user has been banned from editing for 2 weeks. Per their same writing style and interest (ex, manhwa and yujacha), even thought the network host is different, I believe the user is using an open proxy or in a different place like internet cafe.

Same comments with different ip address and networks [4]=[5]

I believe the user evades his sanction again (many 5~6 times?) Can you look into his contributions and block him? Thanks.. --Appletrees (talk) 15:07, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I just wanted you to block the sock ip user, but I think this time, the user switches to Amazonfire (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log · CA · CheckUser(log· investigate · cuwiki) whom I strongly believe the sock of the same user. I filed a RFCU report on the sockpuppetry but have been waiting for over 2 weeks! I don't think the incident page is any good to solve the problem. sigh. --Appletrees (talk) 15:57, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for including it in today's DYK! Cheers Rosiestephenson (talk) 21:33, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DYK talk page

Could it be made clear on the DYK talk page whether new nominations are supposed to be added at the top or bottom of each day's section, or doesn't it matter? Mjroots (talk) 23:04, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't really matter, in my view. --BorgQueen (talk) 04:49, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DYK Next update clearing

When you clear the next update, would you please copy the contents from Template:Did you know/Next update/Clear? Little things like the full set of bullets are a great timesaver! Royalbroil 14:46, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I always do that; please see this latest "clear" --BorgQueen (talk) 14:50, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Are you copying the entire template though? I miss the astericks/bullets on the bottom, so I added them! It's not a big deal, merely a nice convenience. I've been concentrating on contributing content lately rather than updating DYK since DYK has been well covered. It's very nice to see that contributors have been verifying entries early. Royalbroil 14:59, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DYK tags on articles/userpages

Who is responsible for tagging DYK articles when they appear on the main page? The new set hasn't been tagged yet. I can do it if anyone can do it, but one of them is my work, and that might not look right... Horologium (talk) 17:51, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, the admin who updates the DYK page is supposed to do it. Ask him if he is willing to do it, but if he refuses someone else has to do the tagging. --BorgQueen (talk) 17:58, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Satoru Kobayashi (director)

Thanks for the DYK, BorgQueen (I promise that will be the last Japanese erotic cinema nominee from me for a while ;) -- I thought this director's accomplishment was of enough significance to warrant a second JEC DYK within a week). One possible problem though. I don't see it on the main page or in any of the DYK archives... It seems to have vanished from DYK history somehow... Dekkappai (talk) 18:52, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, BorgQueen. Right-- I'm well aware of the pink film problem too, and try to be delicate about the subject with Japanese friends. My (Korean) wife, knowing my interest in the subject, tut-tuts, "People won't respect you if they know you're interested in those movies!" But, to my thinking, Japan is the only country that has really made a cinematic artform out of the erotic film genre. That should be cause of some sort of pride, though I do understand the embarrassment the subject can produce on their part too... Cheers! Dekkappai (talk) 19:52, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DYK

Thanks for using my fact about Music Macro Language in DYK. One thing, though — could it be altered to not refer to MML as a markup language? As you'll see if you read the lead paragraph to markup language, it doesn't fit the definition, though it actually gets confused with Music Markup Language quite frequently. You're doing a great job with the updates BG - not just in keeping them rolling, but with your eye for detail and the care you take over them. DYK really needs an admin like that!

Tweaking of Killing Time DYK hook

Yo, while I appreciate the need for DYK hook's to be concise and to the point, your removal of "operatic tenor" from Paul Feyerabend's careers pretty much undermines the novelty of the hook - the point is that the fellow must have lead a pretty interesting life (and thus have a compelling biography) if he was a Nazi officer, operatic tenor and a notorious philosopher with a vigourous sex life. Might you consider restoring it? скоморохъ 05:52, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You have a point. I restored it, and removed the sex life part instead, which isn't really crucial. --BorgQueen (talk) 06:02, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Are you a Cali/Aussie Cab drinker?

:) Those grapes tend to be more ripe and will have less pyrazines with the fruit essentially drowning out any bell notes. I'm glad you find that hook interesting. :) I'm a little more partial to the 1st because I was surprised to find out that one of the world's greatest wine grapes was an accident that only happened a little over 300 ago. :p AgneCheese/Wine 07:53, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, actually, almost all (if not all) Cab I drank were from there, I think. Nice insight. And, you see, many of the greatest discoveries in history were accidents... Mother Nature has a sense of humor. :-D --BorgQueen (talk) 07:56, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Revert

Your revert of this should not have been done in the way it was done, I understand where I went wrong, but you are not supposed to revert using rollback unless it was vandalism, you should have used undo. ~ Dreamy § 17:50, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I did think it was a vandalism. It has been a target of vandalism before, that is why it is semi-protected, if you haven't noticed. Updating the clock without simultaneously updating the DYK can lead to serious disruption of the process. Can you explain why you made such edit with the edit summary "Updated it"? It doesn't make much sense. --BorgQueen (talk) 18:05, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You see, I hadn't read the template properly before I edited it, and I made the mistake of updating what I though was just the time, not the clock for the next update, it was a genuine mistake, and as you said, it is semi-protected, I am obviously able to edit it, and I would consider myself an experienced user. I am sorry for my inconvenience, and I hope you noticed that I did not revert you, I explained, and asked for an explanation. Again, truly sorry. The only real reason that I knew of the pages' existence is that I have contributed to the DYK before, see here for proof of that. ~ Dreamy § 20:27, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WP:DYKA credit cookie

Hi BorgQueen, regarding this DYK credit, I'd like to point out that the article 2008 Lincolnshire earthquake was substantially expanded (doubled in length) by my work when the content of 2008 Market Rasen earthquake, which I created, was merged by Dhartung into 2008 Lincolnshire earthquake, and the Significance section and the quoted DYK fact came from my edits before the merger.

DYK

Hi, since you're moving entries at the moment, just wondering if there's any reason the John McCauley one is getting passed by? Not a huge deal but if it doesn't get up I'd like to know for next time - length had been questioned but that's sorted now... Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 11:07, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

An election has been proposed and has been set up for this project. Description of the roles etc., can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels/Coordinators. Voting will start on the 1st April and close at the end of April. The intention is for the appointments to last from May - November 2008. For other details check out the pages or ask. Barnstar

The Barnstar of Diligence
For your sustained effort in keeping DYK rolling smoothly from February through early March, and for your sharp eye for detail and ongoing commitment to excellence, I hereby award you the Barnstar of Diligence! Well done, Gatoclass (talk) 05:50, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. :-p --BorgQueen (talk) 06:18, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can you peek at the article and decide if the quotes functions in the references should be deleted. The arguments for both sides are on the talk page. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 01:06, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

David Franczyk

Any chance you would add the March 5 David Franczyk hook?--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTD) 01:41, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely not. It is way too late. --BorgQueen (talk) 01:44, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It is in the expired noms. It was posted in time.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTD) 01:52, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I suggest you bring this issue to Wikipedia talk:Did you know. --BorgQueen (talk) 01:54, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I am just getting annoyed that it keeps getting passed over and is on the verge of being delete. It will only be my second unsuccessful nom against 116 posted noms. All I need is one person who will add it to the T:DYK/N. There is plenty of room now.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTD) 02:10, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rene And Georgette Magritte With Their Dog After The War

Was it correct for an editor to have removed the link to an audio clip included in the article "Rene And Georgette Magritte With Their Dog After The War"? Thanks for your help. House of Scandal (talk) 13:49, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It depends... Since you've left messages on his talk page, you will get to hear his rationale soon. --BorgQueen (talk) 14:00, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thank you. I just wanted to make sure that the link was obviously inappropriate. I will carefully consider whatever explanation the user offers. Thanks. House of Scandal (talk) 15:29, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know about the DYK. I think the whole Stagedoor Johnny thing is interesting and might deserve its own article, but I don't have enough material. Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 17:49, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DYK

Thanks for helping tidy up the links - that's only the second time I've updated DYK, and I think the first time that I've had to add a few more to balance out the space available, so I hope I didn't do too badly... I would have left it but the update was 2 hours late and I could tell that there was going to be a lot of demand for Irish-related DYKs today, so every hour would count!

Posting the credit notes and the article notices then takes another 15 minutes or so (for me, anyway), which is part of the offputting side of things. I assume a bot for that part of the job has been considered before - why was consensus against it? People preferring the personal touch? Regards, BencherliteTalk 02:05, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I personally think employing a bot is a good idea. Was consensus against it? I suppose it might have to do with technical reasons. Let me know if you find it otherwise. --BorgQueen (talk) 02:10, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's one of those ideas that I just assume has been suggested before and rejected... I'm quite happy to do some shifting of hooks to the update now and then, but knowing that if I make the selection "go live" I then ought to annotate 6 to 8 articles plus anywhere between 6 authors and 16 authors/nominators (8+8, worse case) makes me think that I've got better things to do, like sleep. I can't see why GimmeBot or something similar couldn't be used. The admin could update a fully-protected page with the names of the articles and the authors / nominators, and then the bot would read off that. I'll see whether I can find anything... but not right now! BencherliteTalk 02:14, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and I see I forgot {{mprotect}} on the image (although at least I remembered to protect it!) Thanks again for covering for me. BencherliteTalk 02:16, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Update

I see you have started putting the update together now. Would you like me to leave it to you, or would you like some help? Gatoclass (talk) 13:19, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I will appreciate some help. But expect some edit conflicts :-D Thanks. --BorgQueen (talk) 13:21, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I will try and assist, but I work slowly, so don't be suprised if you finish it before I get a chance to contribute something  :) Gatoclass (talk) 13:43, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
See? Told you. At least I got a few hooks reviewed for next time though :) Gatoclass (talk) 13:57, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your ITN edit summary

"main page balance is just fine; it also depends on which browser you are using"

In the future, please pay closer attention to the dates. At the time of your edit (01:19, 25 March), our featured article section looked like this. At the time of my edit (22:21, 24 March 2008), it looked like this. That's a significant difference, even with the extra item contained in today's On this day... section. (The right-hand column still contained slightly too much content even after I removed one ITN item.)
I'm quite aware that the balance is dependant upon various factors (including the user's screen resolution, window configuration, font size and browser), and I deliberately use a setup designed to approximate that of the typical individual. (I base that on the fact that my "balance" usually corresponds to that of other editors who comment on the matter.) It isn't an exact science, but it's a chore that both of us have opted to undertake (since August 2006 in my case), so I was a bit surprised to see that comment (which appears to criticise such efforts) from you. —David Levy 02:07, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, your comments have been well noted. I suppose a sort of neutral edit summary (like simply saying "restore one entry for main page balance") would be more suitable in that case. Please understand that the criticism didn't specifically target at you, but some editors (both in DYK and ITN) who have been not so careful in maintaining the balance in the past. Now I realize that you are well aware of the factors in the maintenance, and I am relieved. Thank you for your effort. --BorgQueen (talk) 02:43, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for clarifying! I'm glad that we're on the same page (no pun intended).  :-) —David Levy 03:08, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Thanks

Yes, I still have it on my watchlist, I forgot to remove it, and I have found that it gets a lot of vandalism, so I thought it good if I helped. ~ Cheers! Dreamy § 02:06, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What consensus are you talking about? The article clearly fits the criteria of ITN, so why are you wheel warring with me without even attempting to engage in a discussion? JACOPLANE • 2008-03-27 21:50

Cuisine of Hawaii

Yes, I'm still interested. I even found some new sources, but I won't be able to access them until late tomorrow. I think I even owe you a few sections that I promised to write, but never did.  :) BTW, are you on the same page as Chef Christopher Allen Tanner in regards to List of Hawaiian dishes and how he chooses to incorporate lists into cuisine articles? I have no strong feelings on the matter, so I leave this decision in your hands, but I will support anything that makes the article easier to read, which is why Tanner's approach seems to be effective. The multi-ethnic backstory to the development of the plate lunch is really interesting, so hopefully we can get that off the ground and running. Still, I think we should expand the farmer's market info on the talk page into the regional cuisine section; it's my understanding (I'll need to find the sources of course) that restaurants specializing in regional cuisine depend on them. Here's one source that touches on the subject, but we'll need more. —Viriditas | Talk 12:19, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Morkoth

Hello! :) In 2006, Morkoth was apparently proposed for deletion. At the time, there was no suitable page for this article to be redirected to, so you deleted the article. I have created a new page, List of Dungeons & Dragons monsters (1974-1976), which would be a proper destination to merge and/or redirect the article to. I'm wondering if it's possible to restore the original article, and turn it into a redirect, thus preserving the edit history? Thanks!  :) BOZ (talk) 00:31, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Even though there was less to be seen than I expected.  :) BOZ (talk) 11:38, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I imagine you reverted 57.72.66.20's edit because it points to an article that is waffle and completely bereft of information, but your edit comment only says what you did, not why you did it. A more informative edit comment would be more useful. Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 13:36, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, your imagination was incorrect. User:57.72.66.20 was blocked for massive spamming and I was cleaning after him. A little check on the anon's contribution would have given you a better idea than a mere guess. --BorgQueen (talk) 13:46, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Had you used an informative edit comment, I wouldn't have needed to exercise my (faulty) imagination.
And I still don't know why you reverted that edit.
(i.e. What "cleaning up" (with respect to that edit) was necessary, and why?)
(Yes, I am playing silly buggers, and yes I am trying to make a point. But then, so are you!)
No reply necessary. Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 14:01, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I believe I explained "why" when I said that I was cleaning after the user's spamming, but then perhaps you are new to Wikipedia...? According to Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback, the guideline states that it is appropriate to use rollback (i.e. without leaving edit summary) if a user's contributions consist of inserting the same WP:SPAM. Please let me know if you have any further questions. --BorgQueen (talk) 14:18, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Whatever. It's past midnight here and I'm going to bed. I'll leave a more intelligent response when I feel more intelligent. In the meantime I'll reflect on why you have a userbox that says "This user enjoys contributing without wearing clothes", vs how your communications with me don't seem to display any sense of humour at all. Night night. Pdfpdf (talk) 15:16, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Stand-alone years

Regarding your recent edit to Bunraku: WP:CONTEXT actually does not say that stand-alone years should not be linked, only that they do not have to be linked. I'm not going to revert the change, because it's acceptible either way. I just wanted to let you know that the rationale you cited for your edit doesn't actually mandate that change. — Gwalla | Talk 16:18, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New Project

Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.

If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. The table can be found at User:Useight/Highly Active, as it has yet to have been moved into the Wikipedia namespace. Thank you for your help. Useight (talk) 17:13, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DYK

Hi, while I appreciate all the work you've put into DYK recently, I don't really get why you recently added the article Guten Tag to the main page, despite my comments pointing to the fact that this article overall was poorly sourced and the fact in the hook in particular was totally unreferenced.--Carabinieri (talk) 22:05, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Euro Mok's comments did not address my concerns at all. Although I was wrong about that, the use of a blog was only a part of my comment. There is still no evidence that the article's sources are reliable per WP:RS and the hook is still unreferenced.--Carabinieri (talk) 19:21, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Main Page balance

Regarding this edit, are you certain that removing it improves main page balance, even after the latest DYK update which is slightly longer than the one preceding it? It doesn't seem that way to me, having checked on both Firefox and Internet Explorer. Perhaps it has to do with our font size difference? --BorgQueen (talk) 00:36, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

On my screen, yes, font size at Larger, Medium & Smaller, IE. I actually removed that line from ITN in anticipation of the DYK update (you almost gave me an edit conflict) If it's really ugly on your screen, please feel free to revert on ITN. I'm signing out soon, so I won't see things sticking out on the rightside on MainPage after your reverting. --PFHLai (talk) 00:44, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I see. That's fine, it is not an exact science anyway, and someone else will fix it if something is wrong. (Not that I imply it must be.) Thanks for your work. --BorgQueen (talk) 00:48, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. And thank you for your work, too. :-)
I don't have FireFox, so I didn't check that. Please feel free to fix things as you see fit, Your Majesty. (i can be 'assimilated' quite easily... :-) -PFHLai (talk) 00:53, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lead article

Well, we haven't had one for a few updates, so I guess it's okay. There is a reasonable selection of different pics available for the next few updates too, so I don't think it will hurt this time. Gatoclass (talk) 04:39, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

But if you want to change it, don't let me stop you. Just as long as the update as a whole is well shuffled, I'll be satisfied.
BTW there is room for one more hook ATM but I didn't add one because the page length often changes with a couple of hours to go, and I'd prefer to see how much space there is when the update is due. Gatoclass (talk) 04:43, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the compliment :)

The article reads rather well. I wish, though, that Tahvili didn't exist. « D. Trebbien (talk) 01:14 2008 May 6 (UTC)

Next update

I'm a little worried about Rosetta Genomics. The contributor's sole two edits were that article. What do you think? We ahve a bit of a back log, so we need to have at least seven hooks for next update.--Bedford 03:43, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Question on how to find something

Hello BorgQueen! Could you tell me how to find this:

In something other than a history tab format? I have no idea whether anyone responded. There are SO MANY incidents, I'm lost. Thanks in advance and may the Schwartz be with you. --Achim (talk) 03:35, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

    • You could try using the Wiki's search function (you see the "GO / Search" on the left of the screen?) --BorgQueen (talk) 03:39, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I just tried that but to no avail. I guess it's a generic question. One posts on the Admin noticeboard. How does one find one's posting afterwards? Do you ever use that board? It's tough because you can't just go to the next or previous edits because of the large number of unrelated items on there. I don't know how anyone finds anything on there. That's why I asked for help on the specific subject at hand, but I'm wondering generically now how you use that thing.... --Achim (talk) 03:46, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The search will do the job. Check if you ticked the option boxes properly. (Check if you ticked "Wikipedia" and "Wikipedia talk" instead of "article", which is the default setting.) No, I try to stay away from the board since I already have more workload than I can handle. --BorgQueen (talk) 03:55, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You really didn't need to promote that one BQ, I was still working on it! Gatoclass (talk) 02:15, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I see. Then please finish your update and I will transfer it to the DYK, and reset the clock again. I was in hurry because the update was overdue. --BorgQueen (talk) 02:17, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I was kind of hoping for some help so I didn't slap an inuse tag on it as I normally do when it's overdue :)

Question about DYK process

Hi, I have a question for you about DYK. I'm currently working on two new articles in my user space. When they are ready, I was planning on moving them (or copying the text anew) to mainspace and submitting a DYK, however, I'm concerned that someone might see that as "gaming" the DYK, since I could (but probably won't) take more than five days to finish them in user space. Do you see this as a problem, or am I being overly cautious? Thanks. Viriditas (talk) 02:41, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The period they remain in your user space doesn't count. An article isn't officially "born" unless it is in the main article space. After you move them to the main space, submit them to the DYK candidates process under the date they were moved, not they were created in your user space. If its history still shows your user space history, contact me or other DYK admin to get rid of it. --BorgQueen (talk) 02:56, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Viriditas (talk) 03:13, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Borgqueen, since you're active, could you make a little fix to the mainpage? The first hook says the Baltimore City Hall was "designed in 1867" but the Frederick article says it was designed in 1860. RfA thank-spam

BorgQueen/archive4, just a note of appreciation for your recent support of my request for adminship, which ended successfully with 112 supports, 2 opposes, and 1 neutral. If there's something I've realized during my RFA process this last week, it's that adminship is primarily about trust. I will strive to honour that trust in my future interactions with the community. Many thanks! Gatoclass (talk) 06:26, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alphaville

On 02:14, 8 April 2007 you removed mention of a music video that was based on the movie Alphaville, stating that there are no sources on the video page. Yet, the music video page has a link to the ACTUAL video on youtube which is, after all, the ultimate source. Anyone who has seen Alphaville can recognise every scene of the video. If someone hasn't seen Alphaville they shouldn't be making significant edits to the Alphaville page in the first place. Dkechag (talk) 16:55, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Of course, I saw the film, many times. But it does not matter. You can't really watch a music video and say "hey, it just looks like the film" and state it as a documented fact. It is a classic case of OR. --BorgQueen (talk) 17:01, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't call something that obvious as "research", but of course I am not a frequent editor, so I might not be interpreting the guidelines to the current wikipedia trends. Still, instead of deleting the section, wouldn't it have been easier to just google for "alphaville kelly osbourne" where you would have found references such as this or this with the artist stating "I am going for something very Alphaville"? Dkechag (talk) 17:43, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If you feel strongly about it, you are welcome to re-insert the information with those references, but such trivia usually does not last for long. Someone else will probably remove it, even if I don't. But you can try. --BorgQueen (talk) 17:48, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I guess you are probably right on that, I noticed there is an increasing trend to remove such things. If I enjoy trivia, I should wait for a "wikitrivia" fork of wikipedia... My point was on the reason of the delete. If the reason was "trivia" I would just suck it up, but I didn't like the particular action/reason. Plus I have a tendency to resist assimilation. Anyway, we bothered enough with this. Regards.Dkechag (talk) 18:33, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My first update

Just posted my first update to the mainpage, woohoo!

Could you just check it for me to make sure I didn't make any mistakes? I uploaded the commons image to en.wiki, c-protected it, copied the hooks to the DYK page and purged the cache, and then unprotected the previous image. Didn't copy the old hooks to the archive as someone had already done that. Gatoclass (talk) 06:33, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Here it is.

No wine in the frig, so I think I'll just have a glass of beer instead :) Gatoclass (talk) 06:56, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rephrasing of DYK hook

I am not quite sure what you meant to say when you rephrased the first hook; "miniature is size?" didn't make sense. I have reverted until you can correct it. I would do it if I understood what you wanted to say! ;) Regards. Woody (talk) 10:03, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Eh, that sentence was actually copy-and-paste from the article itself, and I was in hurry. In any case, the original hook is uncited, has to be replaced with something else. --BorgQueen (talk) 10:07, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Great. I just thought that saying "miniature in size" is a bit redundant. What else can miniature relate to? Woody (talk) 10:10, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's right. How about "... are miniatures?" --BorgQueen (talk) 10:12, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good. Thanks. Woody (talk) 10:14, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I just wikified Federal Duck Stamp, but after reading it, a lot of it seems to be lifted from someplace. I wonder if it is a copyright violation. What do you think?--Bedford Pray 13:15, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I thought it might have been copied from a US government source... If not, we can delete the copyvio diffs and revert to an earlier version. --BorgQueen (talk) 13:56, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It turns out it is from a website, but that site's owner's son put it on the page with permission. I removed stuff that seem very unencyclopedic, but might still need some major tweaking.--Bedford Pray 14:13, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there! In this edit you talked about image consistency; however, since it is a flag, it will be much wider than a picture of a politician. Union of South American Nations

Why was it removed? The oldest on the then list was the headline, "The International Court of Justice awards Pedra Branca to Singapore and Middle Rocks to Malaysia, ending a 29-year territorial dispute between the two countries," and after that, "Dima Bilan wins the Eurovision Song Contest for Russia with "Believe"." The USAN was certainly more important than the two as well. Could you put it back up? Therequiembellishere (talk) 14:54, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It was the oldest. Can you see here the date "May 23" for the entry? --BorgQueen (talk) 15:00, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It was added much after and the ICJ ruling was also on the twenty-third. Therequiembellishere (talk) 15:15, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I've been trying a budget plan, where I get 1 gig broadband DL a month for a set price, and then have to pay $6 for each extra broadband gig, or else be switched back to dialup speed. I already DL'ed 2 gigs this month and I'm too stingy to pay another $6 just for the three days left in the month (I hate giving my money to those greedy telecoms, dammit). So that's why I'm back to dialup speed for the next three days :p Gatoclass (talk) 17:06, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, not 100 percent positive. But I've left countless DYK images on cascading only and they've never been vandalized, as far as I recall. Let me know if you find it otherwise. --BorgQueen (talk) 04:47, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't that because you didn't upload {{C-uploaded}} copies? --BorgQueen (talk) 04:54, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sometimes, although other updaters have said that's all that's really needed. Doesn't matter, I still get complaints. It has encouraged me to never put my images on Commons, just on en.Wikipedia unless asked by another language Wikipedia to put them on there. Far less troublesome.--Bedford Pray 04:59, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps I should rephrase my question. You don't like to upload the {{C-uploaded}} copies because you have a slow connection, or some other reason? It takes me only a few seconds to upload them. --BorgQueen (talk) 05:03, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Mostly because Murphy's Laws never forget me, so it is much safer if I don't.--Bedford Pray 05:06, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict) Royalbroil told me I don't have to actually protect the images because they are automatically protected. So now I just put the mprotected or c-uploaded tag on them instead. If this is incorrect, let me know.

BTW, one thing I have noticed is that mprotected images are often left tagged and protected after being removed from the front page, and c-uploaded images not deleted. I always do it but it seems not everyone does. Gatoclass (talk) 05:11, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I hope that last post didn't come across as an indirect criticism of you Borgqueen, or of Bedford. I haven't actually checked who leaves the images undeleted, I've just noticed it occurring from time to time. Gatoclass (talk) 05:37, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I do check those images, and I usually delete them within 24 hours after they've been taken off the main page. --BorgQueen (talk) 06:07, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That might explain it then :) I delete right after loading a new update, so I assumed everyone else does the same. Gatoclass (talk) 07:52, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I usually forget to delete the image from the previous round, but I have missed promoting many rounds because BorgQueen does them so promptly. I do go back and occasionally check to see what images weren't deleted that should have. About protecting images on the main page: you can test it by c-uploading an image without protecting it. After promoting that group, try to edit the image. You'll get the red text and warnings that indicate that only an admin can edit it. There's your proof that it can't be edited. Royalbroil 12:20, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the explanation :) Gatoclass (talk) 13:24, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Main Page balance

Hmm... is my screen too big? What size are we aiming for?--Pharos (talk) 19:22, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I feel as if I am answering Sphinx's questions. You see, the main page balance is not an exact science; it is dependent upon various factors, such as screen resolution, window configuration, font size and browser. I have been told so many different complaints by different users, I really don't know which tune I should dance to. I guess what we can do is to tolerate small, insignificant blank spaces on Main Page (on our screens), and fix any seriously big chunk of blank space. --BorgQueen (talk) 19:30, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DYK

Hello BorgQueen! Can you please explain why the article Carlos Minc didn't qualify for the DYK? I am quite disappointed that it didn't qualify for the DYK. Can you please explain who selects the articles that appear in the DYK column? I want to understand how it works. Your reply will be helpful. Regards, Masterpiece2000 (talk) 03:39, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sigh, not so fast. It still remains on the suggestions page, so please wait until it is selected by updating editors. (usually meaning me, Gatoclass, Bedford, Royalbroil and Juliancolton) The fact it is in the "expiring" section does not mean it is abandoned. --BorgQueen (talk) 03:50, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
While I was replying, Bedford moved the hook to the next update, so it is only matter of a few hours until it appears on main. --BorgQueen (talk) 03:59, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I noticed Master's post, looked to find it, checkd it out, and since there was a need for non-US hooks, up it went.--Bedford Pray 04:03, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the reply. It was a helpful reply. Regards, Masterpiece2000 (talk) 07:44, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi BQ

Sorry - thought you were asleep .... do you want to load it? Victuallers (talk) 13:05, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sure thing. I hope I didn't confuse you. --BorgQueen (talk) 13:06, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I am confused though - any course available in confusolozy? --Bhadani (talk) 13:08, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Why would you be confused, Bhadaniji? :-D I tried to relax and stay away from DYK for a while but resistance was futile. --BorgQueen (talk) 13:19, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes Queen! Thanks. Confusion cleared. Have some Rasgullas so that you may stop laughing. I had to go out to buy them. You may make them bigger by changing pixel ... hehe and haha --Bhadani (talk) 13:49, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image

Hi BorgQueen, I noticed Image:Deltarhynchus flammulatus cropped.jpg when it was on the main page and saw that its actual license on Flickr is CC-by-nc-sa 2.0, not CC-by-sa 2.0 as it is tagged. The NC means "non-commercial", which is a CC variant that we cannot use per WP:IUP, WP:TAG and Jimbo. I wanted to let you know in case you perhaps had permission from the Flickr user to post with the CC-by-sa license, but, otherwise, the image should be deleted via CSD#I3. ЭLСОВВОLД talk 13:35, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted. Its original (non-cropped) version, Image:Deltarhynchus flammulatus.jpg needs to be taken care of as well, if it is non-commercial only. --BorgQueen (talk) 13:39, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I'll look into it on the Commons side. It's bizarre because it had a Flickr review in April (although done by a bot) and the photo was only just taken at the very end of March, so that would seem quite a rapid change of heart if it was indeed once licensed as by-sa. ЭLСОВВОLД talk 13:48, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Thanks for adding my SALRR article to DYK! But it's not appearing on the main page now, though I see it is there on the DYK archive page. I was last on Wikipedia about 12 hours ago; how long do DYK things stay on the main page, is there a scheduled number of hours? Some seem to stay there for days. Anyway, thanks again.Textorus (talk) 18:45, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is supposed to stay for 6 hours. If you've seen any DYK entry staying for days, you probably have witnessed the worst backlog disaster of all. --BorgQueen (talk) 18:55, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The DYK Medal for BorgQueen

Did you know...

  • ... that for the past 10 days alone, you have updated the {{Did you know}} template on MainPage at least 25 times?
  • ... that for May 2008 alone, you have left {{UpdatedDYKNom}} on my talkpage for more than 25 of my noms?
  • ... that for May 2008 alone, you have archived more than 50 sets of DYK updates at Wikipedia:Recent additions?
The DYK Medal
Here's a medal for the BorgQueen in appreciation for Her Majesty's working so hard at DYK these days, keeping T:DYK/N well stocked, T:DYK frequently updated, and {{Did you know/Next update/Time}} beige or yellow instead of red. Good Job! On behalf of everyone at DYK, I say Thank you! Cheers! --PFHLai (talk) 18:59, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the DYK on the Bill Flemming article. I greatly appreciate it. Chris (talk) 19:30, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
