Contributing Non-Free Material To Wikipedia[edit]

If you wish to contribute material for which you own the copyright, please follow the guidelines at WP:COPYREQ. If you follow the procedure given here, there should be no problem with your article on the basis of copyright and permissions. 6/17/07[edit]

So, I added the "hang on" tag as soon as I posted the note below. Nonetheless, a user deleted it and left the following message: "This item is unquestionably a copyright infringement of www.bostoncecilia.org..."

So frustrating! He did not even look at the "hang on" tag. He just deleted that page, too, and basically accused me of plagiarism. I left a note on his talk page asking him about this, but basically, this site just takes too damned much of my time to get an entry up. Blah...

6/14/07 This is frustrating! I am trying to get our organization onto Wikipedia and I'm being told I'll be speedily deleted! There is no copyright violation because we own the text that we used to generate this Wikipedia entry.Bostoncecilia 17:58, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on The Boston Cecilia, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet very basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

Copyright status of The Boston Cecilia[edit]

Please do not post copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder, as you did to The Boston Cecilia. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites (www.bostoncecilia.org/about/about-us.html in this case) or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author leave a message explaining the details on the article Talk page and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:The Boston Cecilia with a link to where we can find that note;

Writing about yourself or your organisation[edit]

You should wait for others to write an article about subjects in which you are personally involved. This applies to articles about you, your achievements, your business, your publications, your website, your relatives, and any other possible conflict of interest.

Creating an article about yourself is strongly discouraged. If you create such an article, it might be listed on articles for deletion. Deletion is not certain, but many feel strongly that you should not start articles about yourself. This is because independent creation encourages independent validation of both significance and verifiability. All edits to articles must conform to Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, and Wikipedia:Verifiability.

If you are not "notable" under Wikipedia guidelines, creating an article about yourself may violate the policy that Wikipedia is not a personal webspace provider and would thus qualify for speedy deletion. If your achievements, etc., are verifiable and genuinely notable, and thus suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later.
