Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in Donatia novae-zelandiae, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. References actually belong after punctuation, not before it, and there should be no spaces between references and punctuation, except between a ref and the beginning of a new sentence. (MOS:REFPUNCT)
So for example, like this: Sentence 1 lorem ipsum.[1] The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.
And not like this: Sentence 1 lorem ipsum [2]. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.
Secondly, have you wondered what a <ref name="refnamehere" /> is?
Well, let's say I want to use the same reference again for another sentence or paragraph instead of having to add another one.
If I write the same inline citation twice, like here for example: Sentence 1,[3] Sentence 2.[4]
You end up with the same reference appearing as two separate ones in the references list in the article. And the number is different between the two, despite both being the same.
So if I write in the opening ref tag of the initial reference, name="example3", and then write <ref name="example3" /> for the second instance of the reference, the desired result is achieved with no duplicate references in the ref list, as well as the same number for both refs: Sentence 1,[5] Sentence 2.[5]
This is called reusing a citation. (WP:NAMEDREFS)
So please don't change them to <ref name="example 3"></ref>. This can confuse other editors into thinking it's an empty citation, and in general it just doesn't look like correct coding.
Lastly, bold markup (like this: Bold text) should only be used for introducing a term or name to the article, and after that it should not be used for that term or name elsewhere. See MOS:BOLD. Also see MOS:ITALIC for a guide on the use of italic text.
