Welcome back![edit]

I just knew that you couldn't stay away once the new figures came out! :) Don't let one uncivil editor change your sunny disposition and your ability to always create a sense of harmony and a willingness to compromise at the Ebola article. You are needed and you were missed. Gandydancer (talk) 15:36, 30 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

welcome back indeed! thank you again for accepting my apology.Jytdog (talk) 15:45, 30 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Gandydancer, Jytdog thanks and sorry for throwing my toys out of the cot' Greetings Brain BrianGroen (talk) 16:16, 30 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Looking back on the incident, perhaps part of the problem was that Jytdog had not yet had the chance to get to know you as the others at the article had. I have been rather harsh and quick to judge myself, with a person that I did not yet know very well. Gandydancer (talk) 16:26, 30 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

All Gandy good no hard feelings .. Im sure Jytdog just had the best intention as well. and i had a bit of a rough couple of days. MS brain fog. BrianGroen (talk) 16:37, 30 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

As someone who was watching what happened from a distance, I also want to say that I am very happy to see you back! --Tryptofish (talk) 00:22, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I am also delighted to see your work in keeping the Ebola article updated. =)

Focus on svg version[edit]

The vector image (File:2014 ebola virus epidemic in West Africa.svg) didn't render that well initially in the article, so that's why I preferred the raster on (File:2014 Ebola virus epidemic in West Africa.png). However, the image is obviously being updated quite often, and with some modification the svg file renders acceptably and is now the image used in the Ebola virus epidemic in West Africa article. Therefore, I think it's enough to update the png file once or twice every month, thus just focusing on the svg file. Mikael Häggström (talk) 08:29, 5 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. In this diff, you changed {{As of|2014|10}} to {{As of|2014|15}}. This changed the words "As of October 2014" to "As of March 2014", which probably wasn't what you intended: I imagine that you wanted to update the day, but instead inadvertently changed the month. I've now fixed it in the article. -- Impsswoon (talk) 20:39, 15 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

DRC figures for Ebola[edit]

Hi Brian, thanks for the ongoing changes to the Ebola article. I'm not sure where the different numbers for the DRC you have changed are from. I was looking at the latest WHO report which had the numbers in Annex 2:

ANNEX 2. EBOLA OUTBREAK IN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO As at 9 October 2014, and following a retrospective laboratory review of cases, there have been 68 cases (38 confirmed, 28 probable, 2 suspected) of Ebola virus disease (EVD) reported in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, including eight among health-care workers (HCWs). In total, 49 deaths have been reported, including eight among HCWs. 852 contacts have now completed 21-day follow-up. Of 269 contacts currently being monitored, all (100%) were seen on 9 October, the last date for which data has been reported. This outbreak is unrelated to that affecting Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal and Sierra Leone.

If there is a more recent update you've found (or I'm missing something in the report) please let me know/update the ref. Thanks, |→ Spaully τ 10:12, 16 October 2014 (GMT)

Hi Spaully sorry my fault previous report stated 71, 43 [1] WHO must have downgraded will fix quickly.. Greetings BrianBrianGroen (talk) 10:40, 16 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

ZMab versus ZMapp[edit]

Hi Brian, Zmab is one of 3 components which are blended to ZMapp (there is no ZMapp available at the moment, the other 2 components are n/a)

I can only find one source that says it was administered, mostly say that it was available, so I regard the NY Daily news as speculative. She was definitely given serum from survivors.

HI Bob Robertpedley, there is another news bulletin as well, but i have chance the wording to "may" for now.. will keep a look out for more.. else i will remove..[2]. I think the makers are reluctant to release news that a "substandard" drug tested on animal was used. greetings Brian. BrianGroen (talk) 14:26, 17 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

ebola /westAfrica[edit]

hi, Brian sorry to bug you with this question again, but it seems the gap between both Sierra Leones and Liberia "cases" and "fatalities" has grown even wider. Aside from WHO is their any other reliable source we could take up for those "fatality" numbers. The CFR is nowhere in the ballpark of 50%(+ or -). Whatsmore, theoretically lets suppose the fatality numbers exist, both governments simply are under reporting, then could we place a asterisk to indicate this. Why?...the reader will see 14,000 cases, but then think , well its just fatal 37% of the time. What do you think?--Ozzie10aaaa (talk) 22:32, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

p.s. Happy Halloween!--Ozzie10aaaa (talk) 23:17, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ozzie10aaaa Sierra leone i can straight forward tell you that the death rate is definitely wrong.. [3] seems SL are only counting deaths in the hospital while cases outside the the hospital with Ebola is counted but not deaths. In fact Slyphia Blyden the executive PA to president reported this in her news paper as well. she has been sack from her job since then. [4] In Liberia there seem to an issue of corruption in death certificates being issue. [5] . and here is our problem we, the CDC,WHO AND OCHA gets there numbers from the governments,. But this weill change now that UNMEER is involved. . Happy Halloween to you too...BrianGroen (talk) 04:41, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Editor of the Week[edit]

Editor of the Week
Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week, for consensus-driven editing on Ebola-related articles. Thank you for the great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project)

User:Buster7 submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:

I nominate BrianGroen as Editor of the Week because, as editors that have worked with him have said, "(He) brings a sunny disposition and (an) ability to always create a sense of harmony and a willingness to compromise...". Only editing since early August of this year, his main focus has been the important and timely article Ebola virus epidemic in West Africa where he has graciously shared his knowledge while endeavoring to promote a collaborative spirit. He correlates tedious statistics and numbers and verifies their accuracy. Striving for accord and understanding amongst fellow editors, he almost always explains his edits by using the edit summary. His willingness to "give and take" with other editors makes editing more joyful and less difficult. Faced with challenges that may stop some, he continues to be a fine addition to Wikipedia.

You can copy the following text to your user page to display a user box proclaiming your selection as Editor of the Week:

mali/38 suspected[edit]

Brian, should this be added to the page [6] its in French, its the second paragraph in the middle of the site that says "telecharger". The actual report , though French, is pretty easy to understand, they are reporting officially 38 "suspected" cases, what do you think, add or no?--Ozzie10aaaa (talk) 11:48, 16 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ozzie10aaaa it is an official goverment report so as it is in Mali now i agree... Will at it to tab;le vand info box if we get a second reference.. i.e main leading news paper.. Copy-paste[edit]

Please don't move pages by copy-paste as you did at Ebola virus disease treatment research. You should instead use the "move" function to do this (it is under the "more" drop down menu). This preserves the editing history, and is essential for licencing reasons after other editors have made contributions to the page. Thanks SpinningSpark 18:29, 4 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi User:Spinningspark sorry i was not aware of this fact..but in my defense i did not see the move button[ the article Ebola virus epidemic in West Africa is move protected) and i moved sections from multiple pages. Will not let it happen in future Regards BrianGroen (talk) 03:51, 5 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I did not realise that the draft itself was copied from other articles. I was talking about the copy-paste of the draft at Draft:Ebola virus disease treatment into mainspace. I have fixed that by merging the histories, but it is a pain to do, sometimes impossible if the histories get too interwoven. However, from what you say, there is still a problem in that some of the article is copied from other pages. In such cases moving the whole page is not an option. What you should have done in those cases is note in the edit summary where the material was copied from, see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. What you should still do now is make a dummy edit to the article in order to insert an edit summary with that information. SpinningSpark 13:31, 5 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Statistics[edit]

I'm not sure which numbers you are using in some cases, but several totals in this edit are mixed up. For instance, total cases went up to 27,642, not down from 27,642. That can be verified by common sense, by the references, and by a calculator. Art LaPella (talk) 15:06, 17 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry Art LaPella my bad i verified the totals with a calculator but edited the wrong line... finger slapping moment... greetings BrianBrianGroen (talk) 16:32, 17 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Brian[edit]

Welcome to Wikiproject Medicine

Welcome to Wikiproject Medicine (also known as WPMED).

We're a group of editors who strive to improve the quality of medical articles here on Wikipedia. One of our members has noticed that you are interested in editing medical articles; it's great to have a new interested editor on board. In your wiki-voyages, a few things that may be relevant to editing Wikipedia articles are:

  • Feel free to leave us a message at any time on our talk page. If you are interested in joining the project yourself, there is a participant list where you can sign up. Please leave a message on the WPMED talk page if you have any problems, suggestions, would like review of an article, need suggestions for articles to edit, or would like some collaboration when editing!
  • Sourcing of medical and health-related content on Wikipedia is guided by our medical sourcing guidelines, commonly referred to as MEDRS. These guidelines typically requires recent secondary sources to support information; its application is further explained here. Primary sources (case studies, case reports, research studies) are rarely used, especially if the primary sources are produced by the organisation or individual who is promoting a claim.
  • Wikipedia is a kingdom full of a wide variety of editors with different interests, skills, and knowledge. We all manage to get along through a lot of discussion that happens under the scenes and through the bold, edit, discuss editing cycle. If you encounter any problems, you can discuss it on an article's talk page or post a message on the WPMED talk page......Brian the reason I left the above message for you is that your an incredible editor, and the Ebola virus is almost over in west Africa, so if your interested there are a lot of medical articles that could use your help (since your an accomplished author)...if your ever interest...oz...--Ozzie10aaaa (talk) 22:53, 8 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Editor of the Week : nominations needed![edit]

The Editor of the Week initiative has been recognizing editors since 2013 for their hard work and dedication. Editing Wikipedia can be disheartening and tedious at times; the weekly Editor of the Week award lets its recipients know that their positive behaviour and collaborative spirit is appreciated. The response from the honorees has been enthusiastic and thankful.

The list of nominees is running short, and so new nominations are needed for consideration. Have you come across someone in your editing circle who deserves a pat on the back for improving article prose regularly, making it easier to understand? Or perhaps someone has stepped in to mediate a contentious dispute, and did an excellent job. Do you know someone who hasn't received many accolades and is deserving of greater renown? Is there an editor who does lots of little tasks well, such as cleaning up citations?

Please help us thank editors who display sustained patterns of excellence, working tirelessly in the background out of the spotlight, by submitting your nomination for Editor of the Week today!
