Information icon Hello, BrianMQuan. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Canadian Air and Space Museum, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Ahunt (talk) 16:19, 8 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

question for AHunt: I have been an unpaid volunteer for the Canadian Air and Space Museum since 2007, when it was known as the Toronto Aerospace Museum. I continue as an unpaid volunteer (webmaster/I.T. support) for the successor organization Canadian Air and Space Conservancy. My only interest in editing the entry is providing correct information, based on first hand experiences with the organization.

Does this place me in an apparent COI? if so, what is the remedy? (Unlike peer reviewed papers, none of my peers outside the organization have the knowledge or experience to vet my proposed edits, or publish them.)

Thanks, BrianMQuan 20190108@1415EST

Yes, that's a very clear case of COI. In particular, your first-hand experiences cannot be the basis for article content because they are not published sources. Your experience with the organization can certainly help you locate published sources, though.
We would also expect you to make {{edit request}}s rather than edit the article directly. After you've had a number of requested edits accepted, showing that you know how to handle your COI, you may ask if it would be okay to edit directly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jmcgnh (talkcontribs)
