FaceTime: Capability or application?[edit]

Hi. I see you're interested in the usage of specific terms, which is great, just be prepared for discussions like this one. "Application" has a meaning in general (something applied), in desktop computing (a self-contained program that is opened and closed), and on the iPhone iOS devices (an "app" has an icon in the Home screen). There is no FaceTime app, hence calling it an application is confusing. It is a capability or a functionality or a feature that has been added to the existing phone app. Thank you, HereToHelp (talk to me) 13:31, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

While we're talking about this, it's considered rude to have an open discussion while trying to bypass discussion on another page. Give it time and let other editors chime in. Also: talk to me here, that's what this page is for. HereToHelp (talk to me) 14:34, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for beeing rude. Entirely unintentional. New to wikipedia. I thought it easier to exemplify on the subpage. I hope that when you write here I was checking on weather the FaceTime was a software program or mainly a hardware or both. It is apparently mainly a software concept. That is an app was something I got from the FaceTime page on wikipedia where they cited Steve Jobs. Apple Insider FaceTime video calling (I hope here is the here you mean.) I'm aware you're new and forgive you; I'm just letting you know. I've read through the appleinsider article and FaceTime article (which may be a different revision from what you saw), but it clearly says it is a feature, not an app. Can I go ahead and change the article to reflect that? (Yes, here, although the model/generation discussion should stay where you put it.) HereToHelp (talk to me) 18:50, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I agree it is a feature not an application. You can certainly change it. The clarification I wanted could perhaps instead go into the FaceTime article. It now reads:"FaceTime is a video calling feature for iPhone 4" -> "FaceTime is a video calling software feature in the Iphone 4's phone application,". Sounds good. HereToHelp (talk to me) 21:30, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
