Hallo and thank you for your quick response! I’m having great difficulties with my Wikipedia page. My name is Bryan Lawrence, I am an established actor for over 35 years. As an actor many producers and directors search for me on Wikipedia. However the search always gets redirected to Brian Turner Tom Lawrence. This is very frustrating! I am somewhat confused and upset by these confrontational messages I am being sent from Wikipedia. I am a British actor trying to edit my Wikipedia page. Is there something I am doing wrong - please explain how I can formulate my Wikipedia page without receiving desultory replies from you and your fellow moderators.

Hello, Bryan. I think that the messages you have received really could have been expressed in ways which would have been more helpful to you. However, the most important point is that Wikipedia aims to cover subjects as they are recorded by independent third party observers, and strongly discourages writing about oneself or anyone to whom one has a personal connection. Another point is that to be the topic of a Wikipedia article, a subject has to satisfy Wikipedia's notability standards. I don't know whether you do satisfy them or not, but whether you do depends essentially on what coverage you have received in reliable published sources independent of you.

More information related to the points I have mentioned is in the policies and guidelines Wikipedia:Autobiographies, Wikipedia:Conflict of interest, Wikipedia:Notability, and Wikipedia:Reliable sources. I apologise for the fact that there's rather a lot there; in my opinion the single worst development in Wikipedia since its early days has been the gradual growth of policies and guidelines, resulting in there now being far too many of them, and most of them are far too long and complex, making it confusing for new editors.

Incidentally, Cyberwolf434344 is not a Wikipedia administrator, which is the nearest we have to moderators. He is just an ordinary editor like yourself, apart from the fact that he has been around for several months. I very much appreciate your fulsome response JBW. I did think I was communicating with a scammer so much was the unpleasant and unprofessional response from your colleague.

However, your detailed and informative reply has put my faith back in mankind - and in Wikipedia! The reason I want to put my details on Wikipedia is although I am a successful British actor based in London I have a lot of enquiries from India - since my first Bollywood film 6 years ago I seem to have become the go to bad white guy! Production companies have said they have looked for me on IMDB (which I am on) but fans do not use IMDB - their first port of call is Wikipedia. Being unfamiliar with the machinations of Wikipedia I thought I could simply publish my information for Wikipedia for fans to know what I’m up to and to know my history.
