Translated from dewiki. Is this a page or a category? I don't know, help needed. Thanks--Buchbibliothek (talk) 11:12, 9 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Contested deletion[edit]

This article should not be speedy deleted as lacking sufficient context to identify its subject, because... (it also exists in dewiki and most of the sports people have their own article in enwiki, so I think the article is absolutely helpful) --Buchbibliothek (talk) 13:50, 9 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

For this article we need new categories, but I don't know how this works.--Buchbibliothek (talk) 18:30, 9 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Buchbibliothek, it looks like this is referring to Doping in East Germany, but you don't include any information about that in the article. The basic thing to remember when writing articles is to assume that incoming people are unaware of the topic, which means that you can't expect people to automatically understand context from the title. You need to have at least some explanation of the topic and the list, as well as to show how the list is notable enough to warrant inclusion.
I'm going to transfer this into your userspace for several reasons. The first is that the article is incomplete and needs the above explanation. The second is that you must also show where the list would pass WP:NLIST and would warrant a spinoff article. This requires sourcing, which will be important to establish notability as well as backing up the claims that these people were part of this scandal. Unverified claims poses a huge WP:BLP issue if one of the athletes is denying the claims and/or if the claims are only substantiated by rumors.
Another reason I'm transferring it is because of the term "victims", as this is a loaded term. You need to be careful of this because of the possibility of some athletes willingly doping in order to achieve a win. I'm not very familiar with this so I'm unsure if there are people like that or how many, but this is why the term is usually avoided. I'd recommend something like "List of athletes involved with doping in East Germany". That takes away the uncertainty associated with the term victim, but the title can be played around with. I'm going to leave a note at WikiProject Athletics to see if I can get you some help with this article. Something else I need to note is that it's possible that this list might not be a valid content fork and/or might be just as well served as a list in the main article, as notability standards greatly differ from each language's Wikipedia and by large the English WP's is far more strict than others.
