List of Trinity College Kandy alumni[edit]

You have added some excellent names to the list and this has greatly improved the article. However, I wondered what your sources were for awards of colours and Lions, etc. I ask because I've just been looking at the TCK official 125th year commemoration volume, 'Glimpses into the Past', and I found a few random inconsistencies with what's been entered on Wiki. For example, there is no record of Rugger Lions for Jan Tissera and Rohan Abeykoon. No records of a Hockey Lion for Gamini Bandaranayake. Also R. Rajadurai was not a Senior Prefect, it seems. It may be wise to double check this sort of information to avoid any challenges. Just a friendly comment intended to be constructive. On a separate note, some other recent anonymous contributors have been adding a lot of school achievements against the names of the eminent alumni. I agree that this could be interesting if done in moderation - e.g. 'Trinity Rugger Lion, 1976, Athletics colours' etc., but in some cases the descriptions assume a life of their own and dwarf the actual reason for including the person on the list in the first place. While achievements in school are significant and important to Trinitians, I am not sure these alone justify treating someone as an eminent alumnus on a Wiki page. So, as a rough rule of thumb, my view is that the information on a person's school achievements should not normally exceed the information which justified their inclusion as eminent. There have in fact been two very recent additions under 'cricket' which are curiously based ONLY on school achievements! These two people already appear elsewhere on the list for perfectly justifiable reasons, but I think we risk losing the plot when achievements at the age of 17 can make a person a distinguished alumnus. Thank you for the reply left on my talk page. A week after leaving the above message on your talk page, I also placed an updated and extended version of it on the main discussion page of the article. I wonder whether you saw this? Another long standing editor has also joined the discussion. All three of us seem to share some reservations about some of the entries that have been made, so it would be good to have a constructive discussion before the article attracts objections from people much further away from the subject matter. I am afraid I am not on facebook - far too scared of social media networks! Anyway it might be better to have these discussions and debates on wikipedia itself, don't you think?
