July 2012

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, but when you add or change content, as you did to the article Antawn Jamison, please cite a reliable source for your addition. This helps maintain our policy of verifiability. See Wikipedia:Citing sources for how to cite sources, and the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. We typically wait until an official source confirms the contract has been signed. "Reports" or "sources" are not considered official.Bagumba (talk) 15:27, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nuggets

[edit]

The Nuggets have indeed announced the Andersen move [1], but they haven't said anything about Randolph. Just wait until it's official. A RealGM entry is not an official announcement of anything. Zagalejo^^^ 05:32, 18 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank You for clarifying. Can you suggest some "official sources" that you may use to gather your NBA Free Agency information? This would be greatly appreciated. <<<<Bullsfan48>>>>

The best sources would be the press releases on the teams' websites. Something like this. Zagalejo^^^ 01:43, 19 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, would you consider ESPN Sports to be an official source? <<<<Bullsfan48>>>>
Generally speaking, no. They report a lot of their information using unnamed sources, before deals have actually been approved by the NBA. And even if a player or an agent announces something, it might be a few days until all the paperwork is done. (That said, this page is OK, because ESPN doesn't post anything there until a deal has been finalized for sure. Unfortunately, it's often incomplete.) Zagalejo^^^ 06:39, 19 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'd say that the best thing to do is check the team's own website. If there's nothing there about the transaction, it probably isn't finalized yet. Zagalejo^^^ 06:46, 19 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Jeremy Lin jersey number

[edit]

Hi, in this edit [2], you marked Jeremy Lin as wearing jersey number 7 for the Houston Rockets. What is your source for this information? —Lowellian (reply) 19:04, 18 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind, I've now seen the jersey number in a couple of news sources. Happy editing! :) —Lowellian (reply) 07:29, 22 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Tracy Mcgrady.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Mosmof (talk) 21:22, 4 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Another note about images - please be careful when using images from Flickr. Some Flickr users release most of the copyright to their images, many don't, like the ones for File:Stephen Jackson Bobcats1.jpg and File:Stephen Jackson Bobcats2.jpg - if you look at the source page, you'll see that the license is {{Cc-by-nc-2.0}}, and Wikipedia does not accept images that do not allow commercial use. Thanks. --Mosmof (talk) 04:06, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited 2012–13 Golden State Warriors season, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Stephen Curry (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

File permission problem with File:Brian Scalabrine Chicago Bulls pic.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Brian Scalabrine Chicago Bulls pic.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 21:45, 14 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Steven Adams may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "[]"s. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

NBA free agents re-signing with their old teams

[edit]

If someone is said to be re-signing with his old team, I wouldn't bother changing anything. You'll never get your edits to stick. (Technically, you're right, but it's an uphill battle, and not worth the effort.) I do appreciate your interest. Zagalejo^^^ 19:30, 5 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Also, note that July 10 is simply the first day that deals *can* become official. Not all players will be signed right away. Best, Zagalejo^^^ 20:44, 5 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Zagalejo, this helped a lot. If only all Wikipedians had some sort of patience. Thanks,

NBA bio infobox image

[edit]

I reverted your change to Shaquille O'Neal. The last discussion at Wikipedia_talk:NBA#Infobox_image_for_retired_players was to generally go with a more recent picture for retired players over older ones of them playing. Feel free to discuss at WT:NBA.—Bagumba (talk) 22:05, 1 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
