Billy McFarland

[edit]

Re: your edits to Billy McFarland - Wikipedia is about verifiable information that anyone can check in reliable sources. The opinions of unidentified paramilitary members do not count in this respect (nor, just to be clear, do the opinions of identified members unless they are already available to read or view elsewhere). Your edits might or might not reflect the objective truth but WP:TRUTH is not a consideration on here. I appreciate that can be frustrating but the rules are in place to prevent anybody from coming along and claiming to have insider information that they are just making up (I'm not saying you're doing that by the way, just that it happens frequently and is the main reason for the rules). If UDA members are interviewed and quoted in the press then what they say can be added, with the proper source, to articles but otherwise no go. Also familiarise yourself with WP:NPOV as some of what you added appeared to be too partisan in favour of McFarland and against his internal opponents.

Also from a purely WP:MOS perspective, there's no need to put a title in capital letters at the start of a paragraph followed by a tilde as you did. Either start a new section the same way as all the others in the article or omit the title.

None of this is intended to discourage you from editing McFarland's article or any other on Wikipedia but just be aware that edits that don't follow the rules and spirit of Wikipedia will be removed consistently by editors and continuing to make those sort of edits may lead to censures from Administrators.

But apart from all that happy editing! Keresaspa (talk) 19:20, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I see you don't seem particularly interested in engaging in constructive discussion or building WP:CONSENSUS, having restored your unsourced additions and removed the sourced version. As a last attempt to assume good faith I've partially reverted you but left in places the bits you've included that are sourced to actual newspapers. Hopefully that compromise will work for you but if not we will have to get other editors involved as some of these edits are verging on WP:VANDALISM.
