Addition of external links[edit]

Hi Business minded. I have noticed that you have been adding external links from The Canadian Business Journal to a lot of articles recently. You should consider citing information from these sources into prose within the article rather than just adding to the end of it, it will improve the article much more than just adding a link at the end. Further to that when you add many of the same external links to multiple articles, it looks a lot like spam. Although it is much easier to add a link to the end of an article, it is preferred to improve the articles content and use it as a source. Please ask if you have any questions. Happy editing!--kelapstick (talk) 18:04, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Also...[edit]

Please remember to mark your edits, such as your recent edits to Athabasca Oil Sands, as minor if (and only if) they genuinely are minor edits (see Help:Minor edit). Marking a major change as a minor one is considered poor etiquette. The rule of thumb is that only an edit that consists solely of spelling corrections, formatting changes, or rearranging of text without modifying content should be flagged as a 'minor edit.' Thank you. --kelapstick (talk) 18:06, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Recent edits and single purpose account[edit]

Hi Business minded! I just want to bring up some issues with some of the work that you have been doing. First off, it appears that you are operating a single purpose account, that purpose being to promote The Canadian Business Journal. While there is nothing blatantly "against the rules" about single purpose accounts, some editors are against it because it can lead to a conflict of interest and a lack of neutrality (on a personal note, I don't care if people operate a single purpose account providing they are improving the aspect of Wikipedia that they are working on). Specifically article about The Canadian Business Journal is fairly well written, but could be interpreted as advertisement. This is compounded by the fact that you user name is "Business minded" which may imply that you have some vested interest in The Canadian Business Journal, weather or not that is the case, that is how some people will view it.

I added the notability tag to it because, as the tag implies, it may not meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines. What you need to do is find secondary sources which are independent of the subject. In your case you have used the CBJ itself as references, this is admissible for adding content to an article which has its notability established, however the bottom line is notability has to be established. If notability can not be established it will be put up for deletion where it can be decided by other editors.

One more thing, I am going to remove the external links that you have added to Athabasca Oil Sands, Kidd Mine and KBR (company). If you want the journal to be cited as a source use reference and citation templates, rather than just adding a link at the bottom. I will do this in a couple of days so that you have time to work on this (if you so choose). Thanks for listening, and let me know if you have any questions or I was unclear about anything. Happy editing!--kelapstick (talk) 19:59, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
