I am polite, always! I dont make things personal. As you well know, I am no stranger to the SP article. If you dont see a problem with referring to an editor named Jim as "Them", OK. I didnt make it personal. You might consider that other editors might read 'them' and infer you mean the "us v them' nature of the article. Sometimes we dont see things thru anothers eyes. If you are referring to the other topic (Collect) maybe you can give me some advice on how to handle what, to me, is the most uncomfortable situation I have ever experienced here at WP. I have no interest in dealing, in any way whatsoever, with editor:Collect. He knows why. And yet, for the past few days he has seen fit to comment, in various places, to my general questions and input. Among others, for instance, I went to the WP:Helpdesk to ask a general question. Of all the 10000+ editors at WP, he is the one that chooses to answer. There is much more history between us...and I'm tired of it! In good editor fashion he should recuse himself when it comes to me. Maybe you could act as an intermediary. I would appreciate that.Buster Seven Talk 21:41, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

A little Palin irony...

There's a certain irony in the Palin media coverage that could play out over time. Reasonable people realize Palin is not alone in her use of caustic political rhetoric. They also know Loughner is far more likely to be found a mentally-unstable outcast who turned to this heinous act as a last cry for help, and not as some statement of political support for Palin. Despite, the incident seems to have precipitated a national media cry for tempering the caustic political discourse... and they're not petitioning the President or our elected officials to lead that charge. They're putting the onus on Sarah Palin! I don't understand that. Fcreid (talk) 11:11, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Well, Sarah is the figurehead and she is out front in her use of the various formats (twitter, facebook, etc.) available to the New Age politician/Conservative talking head. Lets reflect on what Sarah may have thought the instant she heard about the shooting. Gifford appears on a map of House Democrats "targeted" by Palin. Headline: "20 House Democrats from districts we carried in 208 voted for the health care bill... IT'S TIME TO TAKE A STAND" (Palin's caps). Map clearly depicts crosshairs over Gabrielle Gifford's location (her name listed below, with the others "targeted"). "Caustic"? Please. Civility

Please don't refer to other editors as "pro-Palin protectors". It's best to avoid referring to other editors at all. Instead, focus on the edits. The sentence in question started its life at WP:BLP earlier today. Once it got in their hands it was turned into ground beef with all kinds of additions without any discussion. Now its a mess and their protectivist practices continue. I made good faith edits...that were NOT poorly written, I might add! Im reminded of Howard Rourke, the hero of Rand's The Fountainhead and his dispondence over the Courtland Homes housing project. Timeline-Jan 19

I know that I didn't do the refs right re: citenews. I guess I don't follow the instructions correctly. Can you transfer the instructions into 'layman english' for me. Much appreciated. Buster, the {{Cite news}} template is pretty straightforward; you just fill in the known information. So, for example, using the URL you just added to the Obama timeline, I added the information that the news sources gives us: authors, date, publisher, access date. Those are the usual items. You should always try to include the access date so people know that the URL was active at that time. I'll break it down for you:

• {{cite news
• |url=http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE70H07Z20110119 → obviously, the URL to the article
• |first1=Chris |last1=Buckley |first2=Matt |last2=Spetalnick → in this case, the news article had two authors, so you can see there is a place for the first and last names of both, differentiated with numbers; I think this can go up to 9
• |title=Obama presses China's Hu on currency, rights → the news article's title
• |publisher=Reuters → the news article's publisher, in this case Reuters
• |date=January 19, 2011 → the date the news article was published, usually found at the top of the article
• |accessdate=January 19, 2011}} → the date you saw the news article and added it to Wikipedia; this doesn't have to be the same as the date the thing was published

I think you can use any of the cite templates on any Wikipedia article, unless the article already has an established citation system.—Diiscool (talk) 22:33, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Any reason that you are adding items to one article in a series of three non-existent awards? Wouldn't it be slightly more logical to create one new article with the correct name from scratch? There are quite a few years with the exact same problems waiting for you next, also up for AfD, so I feel that this is a wasted effort for the moment. Fram (talk) 21:31, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

And why would you deliberately populate three incorrectly named articles whene it would take less effort to create it at the correct, single title immediately? You might want to drop in to AN/I. While the discussion is primarily about me, your actions are also being addressed in rather risable terms. (Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#excess of powers by the admin Horologium) We stand accused of being a tag-team because we both reverted the same inappropriate category insertion. It's great that you're getting to grips with that, probably the best thing to do is find some articles that need a repetitive internal fix. A good example is USA => US, except in quotes, names (USA Today, Team USA, etc.), and sports contexts, we almost exclusively prefer US (or until the last year or so, U.S.). Of course the exceptions are the reason we can't just blitz through and change them all - I fell afoul of this with "Infobox road" where "country=USA" drives a load of internal stuff in the template. (I subsequently fixed the template to accept US too, on general principles, but that was reverted - generally I walk away from those kinds of situations, since there is no shortage of stuff to do.) I'll create a list of possible articles to investigate, you can have a look at Animation which has 10 cases of USA that need conversion, while that's running.
