Category:Pages using infobox television episode with nonstandard dates

Can you run over Category:Pages using infobox television episode with nonstandard dates (at least up to and including the letter G)? I've fixed values there so your script should be able to handle the dates there correctly now. Gonnym (talk) 11:17, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

@Gonnym: No problem! It's a small category, so I went through the whole thing, but I skipped some where I have some questions. Actually, I have some additional questions from when I went through this cat before as well.
1. What's the best way to handle the Australian episodes? There are a bunch of these with different air dates for Sydney and Melbourne (and occasionally, Brisbane). Should these be entered as multiple dates as per the template docs (a bulleted list)? That's what I was thinking it should be, but hadn't worked out the handling of that yet.
1a. If we leave the location as part of the display, what about instances where there is only one date for both? example: Dangerous Corner (Wednesday Theatre) Would we leave the note for location, or just display the date (and ref, if applicable)?
2. On my previous run (and some on this one), I did a lot of 2 (and 3) part episodes. Per the template docs, I did these as a bulleted list. However, based on the docs for Template:Start date and the note for OriginalAirDate at Template:Episode list, I only templated the first date, then an MOS date for the remaining date(s). I assume the note regarding microformatting applies here, too, which is why I did it that way, but I wasn't sure. (That would also play into #1 above.) Example of how I applied it: Redemption (Stargate SG-1) Is this right?
3. Similar to 1 above, there are instances of multiple dates, but on different continents/countries. Example: Evergreen (Adventure Time) Like the Australian entries, I can leave these as multiple dates in a bulleted list if that's the way they should be. If so, then the same multiple date question about formatting applied.

Regarding #1, I move all to the lead like this and leave only the first date. This to me seems the more correct way of handling this. Regarding #2, I wasn't the one who added that ntoe about start date, so I really have no idea. Regarding #3, this is more tricky. If the earliest date is from the same place as the country of origin, then I remove the others. If the earliest date is from a different country or a preview screening, I just leave it as-is for now, as I don't know how it should be handled. Thanks for cleaning up the dates! No problem! I'll leave the rest for now. It's a lot smaller now than it was a few weeks/months ago. Let me know if you need me to run through it again. ButlerBlog (talk) 13:09, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
@Gonnym: I tracked down when the notes were made about hCalendar microformat metadata in the {{Episode list}} docs and sought out the user who mentioned the note. I asked for clarification so I could understand it better, and I think I have a better handle on it now. With that in mind, there is at least one particular change I made to the {{Infobox television episode}} |airdate= that I think would be better a different way than I did it.
I did the following for a two-part episode:
| airdate =
* {{Start date|2020|01|01}} (Part 1)
* January 2, 2020 (Part 2)
But based on the hCalendar format, it would actually be better to be this:
| airdate =
* {{Start date|2020|01|01}} (Part 1)
* {{End date|2020|01|02}} (Part 2)
A multi-part episode could be this:
| airdate =
* {{Start date|2020|01|01}} (Part 1)
* January 2, 2020 (Part 2)
* {{End date|2020|01|03}} (Part 3)
Note that that does not apply to airdates that are not necessarily multi-part, such as airing the same episode on different dates (such as situations where there are two countries or a preview, etc as noted previously). In those cases, only one {{Start date}} should be used (the first one) and any additional dates should be regular dates (untemplated) - at least that's how I understand it. Oh, that's good to know! Gonnym (talk) 08:03, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
I've fixed more pages in the category so when you have time, please run the script again to remove the newly fixed. Gonnym (talk) 10:39, 30 May 2023 (UTC)
@Gonnym: No problem! I did a run-through of the category. Hope I picked up all the ones you fixed. Let me know if I need to go through it again. ButlerBlog (talk) 18:30, 30 May 2023 (UTC)
OK, I think I finished with all single episode airdates so once you do another pass only multi-episodes should be left. Gonnym (talk) 14:24, 1 June 2023 (UTC)
@Gonnym: Done! So there are a few oddballs left. Most of those remaining are multipart episodes or Australian with multiple air dates (i.e. Sydney/Melbourne). ButlerBlog (talk) 13:40, 2 June 2023 (UTC)

hr cleanup note

When you change entries like [1] if the date has a "(part 1)" after it, you should remove it as after the split it's clear that it belongs to part 1. Gonnym (talk) 14:38, 21 June 2023 (UTC)

@Gonnym: That did cross my mind and I thought about both ways (removing/not removing). I tend to agree and I'll make the adjustment on the remaining edits. Thanks! ButlerBlog (talk) 15:27, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
