Princes of Asturias, Princes of Portugual

[edit]

Hello Câmara;

Please do not move pages on the basis of "accuracy" to include more than one title. Asturias and Portugal have never been used in conjunction with one another. Charles 08:20, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Male-line descent does not equate with priority. The Asturian title is more common. Charles 20:21, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In English. Charles 23:04, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The only reason why that shows up is because Portugal in that search is not attributed to Miguel da Paz, but to his father as king of Portugal. If you include quotation marks, you'll find zero results. Charles 23:25, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mapa do Império Espanhol

[edit]

Pictures in Succession Boxes

[edit]

I assume you are the person responsible for the recent plague of pictures in the succession boxes. Although your intentions are good, I must say that the visual appearance of the image in the succession box is very lacking. We have a WikiProject, WP:SBS, for changes such as those you are doing to the succession boxes. If you would like to propose an amendment to the established rules for succession boxes so that images may be included, please join in discussion and we will be happy to talk. However, I do not like the current format you have chosen for the images nor do I like their placement. Let us talk with some members of the group and come to a conclusion before you place images on more pages. Thank you!

Portuguese exploration in Greenland

[edit]

Greetings Câmara I don't know if you've noticed it, but I made a post to Talk:Portuguese Empire in early July concerning Greenland; apparently a joint Danish-Portuguese expedition travelled to Greenland around 1471 but I haven't been able to find other references to this expedition in Danish books. You wouldn't have stumbled over any such references in your books by any chance? A second issue you might be able to help me with: the same book mentions that the expedition left a large symbol of its presence on the wall of one of the mountains. AFAIK, whatever this symbol was, its whereabouts is unknown today. Do you have any idea if Portuguese expeditions used some kind of standard "symbol" / stone cutting / pillar / metal plate or something similar to mark that an expedition had visited a location? Thanks in advance. Valentinian T / C 22:37, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Spanish Empire/Portuguese Empire

[edit]

FYI - that debate about the map has flared up again at Talk:Spanish Empire. The Red Hat of Pat Ferrick t 23:04, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nice to hear from you. I'm finding dealing with those two quite frustrating. Both began this discussion not having even read any material on the empires or seen any maps, and are now scrabbling around to find maps that confirm their pre-synthesized views. So far they've only found one map that shows the Portuguese Empire as "Spanish", in a history of the world atlas suitable for coffee tables or children's stockings. Hi! :) I'm really interested in the Portuguese language. If you want to, you can put a watch on my user page and talk page. I noticed that all the Portuguese speakers who have contributed to my talk page discussions speak English really well. I think it's great, but I also think that it's sad the way English seems to be this universal global language. Let me make it clear that I do NOT want to be the ugly American. Image source problem with Image:King Carlos I of Portugal.jpg

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:King Carlos I of Portugal.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 13:42, 10 April 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sdrtirs (talk) 13:42, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Spanish Empire Map

[edit]

Hi there. I completely agree with your post. Unfortunately, two editors decided one evening to hijack the discussion that was going on and, not wanting to get blocked for WP:3RR, there was nothing I could do about it. However, if you are in favour of putting back the original map File:Spanish Overseas Empire and Spanish Hapsburg Realms.png whilst we return to a normal dispute resolution procedure, I will back you on that. The manner in which these two behaved here was completely contrary to how Wikipedia is supposed to work. The Red Hat of Pat Ferrick t 22:42, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kingdom of Kongo

[edit]

Thanks, I drew that a fair bit ago, and had I drawn it today I think it would have looked far better. I don't exactly recall the source; I think it's a synthesis of a couple of contemporary explorer/conquistador maps in a more modern presentation, hence the "Europeanised" names for fiefs, vassals and political divisions: duchies, kingdoms, marquises. The maps are from books and documents, but I found them on the Internet. I don't have a hard copy, nor can I recall the exact name of the reference. I'm sorry I can't be of more assistance, good luck with your research! PS: I think I can dig up the Photoshop file if you would like, but I'm afraid I left no source information in it. PS2: It is customary to sign your posts with four tildes, like this:~~~~. Doing so will produce a link to your user page, user talk page and the current UTC date and time. —what a crazy random happenstance 00:47, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. IngerAlHaosului (talk) 16:16, 15 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:1563 lazaro luis 04 atlantic nord.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:1563 lazaro luis 04 atlantic nord.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
