Explanation
[edit]Ah, here's the canned message explaining what to do in cases such as yours:
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions to the CAF Airpower Museum article, but for legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.
You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later."
You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question at the "Help Desk". You can also leave a message on my talk page. DS (talk) 13:46, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
"AAHM" vs "CAF Airpower Museum"
[edit]I understand (per your email) that you are employed by the museum. However, the AAHM never calls itself the "CAF Airpower Museum" anywhere on its own website, nor do searches for "CAF Airpower Museum" return any other pages that use the term and can be considered as reliable references.
I'm reluctantly reverting your changes for now. Perhaps once the museum officially decides what to call itself then changes can be made as appropriate.
As far as other issues in your email: The original article was deemed to be a copyright violation because it was an exact copy of the text on the AAHM website. WP:COPYVIO goes into better detail.
Also see WP:COS regarding problems with the museum name. While you personally may know 'for a fact' that the name is different, there must be reliable sources to back up that knowledge.
Since from what I can find the AAHM is known casually as the "CAF Airpower Museum," I will create a redirect page so that those searching for the name on WP will find it. Of course, as with everything else here, if other editors disagree, then they can delete it. Consensus is the rule here. None of us own the place.
Thanks for your work here. --| Uncle Milty | talk | 18:23, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
- I've reverted your changes because, once again, we cannot just take your word for it. That's not how Wikipedia works. If you continue to add unreferenced information to Wikipedia articles, you may be banned from editing. Also: Please continue this conversation here, and not via email. So far, I've refrained from pasting your emails into this area, but in the future I may have to for context. --| Uncle Milty | talk | 00:02, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- Look I understand what you are saying, but I disagree with how you say Wikipedia works. If somebody was to write an article on themselves who could dispute them? No one could, could they? If you want proof of a name change then here follow this link I have provided to the CAF Education page on the CAF website which is brand new and hosted by the same company on which the CAF Airpower Museum will be hosted on. IF you read closely and click on the links that say CAF Airpower Museum it will take you to the museum website. http://commemorativeairforce.org/?page=cms/index&cms_page=19 Now if that is not proof enough for you, then please direct me to someone at the Wikipedia Offices so I can make a formal complaint. - I suggest that you take some time to learn about Wikipedia. Here's a great place to start: Wikipedia:Introduction. A few other points:

- You do not need to copy this entire conversation over to my talk page. I can see your replies here. I've taken the liberty of deleting your copy-and-paste of this conversation there.
- You ask "If somebody was to write an article about themselves..." If that article contained unreferenced facts, or was too autobiographical in nature, then the article would likely be deleted. See WP:AUTOBIO for more info.
- I followed your link. There is nothing there that tells me that "CAF Airpower Museum" is anything more than a nickname. I find it interesting that there is not a single press release relating to a name change. One would expect at least that.
- You can sign your comments on talk pages by simply typing --~~~~. Wikipedia's server will automatically replace that with your signature.
- Again: Please reply here. I'll see it. Thanks. --| Uncle Milty | talk | 05:49, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Speedy deletion of User:CAFAirpower
[edit]A tag has been placed on User:CAFAirpower, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:User:CAFAirpower|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the article or have a copy emailed to you. ukexpat (talk) 18:47, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
This account has been blocked
[edit]Our rules do not permit accounts for groups, organizations or companies. Your userpage clearly declares this to be such a "role account." I have therefore blocked the account from editing. If any of you as individual human beings wish to edit here, you as human beings are welcome to do so. I will warn you, however, that violations of our rules about conflict of interest will not be tolerated. I will also assure you that a nonsensical sentence like Dawson's If somebody was to write an article on themselves who could dispute them? No one could, could they? shows a clear misunderstanding of our standards of verifiability and the rule that nobody "owns" an article. --Orange Mike | Talk 18:48, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- Nor, may I add, will anything promotional. – ukexpat (talk) 18:51, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Spam in User:CAFAirpower
[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on User:CAFAirpower, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because User:CAFAirpower is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting User:CAFAirpower, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD.
