Your signature

Do you really think it is a good idea to have "H2O" as your signature? That may cause some confusion with Dihydrogen Monoxide. Melsaran (talk) 23:56, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

How about CO2 ? H2O 23:58, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Reply to WP:BOTREQ

Yes, I can add the box like that but I was wondering if someone can create a bot that can do it faster than I. Jhfireboy Talk 07:11, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

Thank you very much. Jhfireboy Talk 16:25, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

I changed your name on the Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Members page for you. If you don't want to continue to be a member, then just remove it. (Hope it was not too much of a liberty to take). Thanks Woodym555 09:46, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale

Your tagging of Image:Idlogo.jpg was completely proper, and I have no issue with that. However, when you remove the image from the article in which it is used one minute later, it makes it a more troublesome to add the rationale you're requesting. As you're aware, fair use rationale must be article-specific, so determining the use of the image is the first step to adding rationale. In this particular case, I was able to guess the article because I am familiar with the logo, but many editors would have to search your contribution history to do this.

A better solution would be to add {{Deletable image-caption}} to the image in the article. This will make the image page's deficiencies visible and increase the chances of someone fixing them. At the least, if you absolutely insist on immediately removing images the minute after you tag them, please make a note on the image page of the removals, such as this example from OrphanBot.

Thanks, Pagrashtak 19:49, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

Question

I was on RC Patrol reverted as it seemed to be vandalism as you seemed to be editing someone else's talk page and it had been reverted back by another user After Midnight says The page was tagged after being vandalized. I've reverted to last good version. --After Midnight 0001 20:12, 1 September 2007 (UTC) .Hence reverted itas he ahd earlier reverted your edit.[1]Pharaoh of the Wizards 23:24, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

R's RFA

Hello. I'm sure you mean no harm but this is likely to make a chaotic RfA a bit more chaotic. Yes, yes, RfA is not a vote and people should explain their support and whatnot but the fact is that supporters are generally understood to endorse the nominator's statement and comments like that are usually perceived as aggressive. Cheers, Pascal.Tesson 00:27, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Reverted. CO2 00:31, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, I think it's the right move. Pascal.Tesson 00:42, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

COBot malfunction

I've temporarily shut off your bot per this edit, as reported on AN/I, where it blanked all existing content from the page while leaving a message. Please ask for an unblock once the bug is fixed. (It looks as if you might want to use the section=new URL parameter when leaving messages, to avoid having to deal with the existing content in the first place.)

Ps. COBot's talk page still points to User talk:Wikihermit. You may want to fix that too. —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 19:03, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Unblocked - keep watch and see how it goes. Get back to me if there's a problem. I'll keep watch anyways - Alison 20:55, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, I'm getting a lot of "maxlag" right now, so it might be a while before it gets going. CO2 20:59, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
First handful of edits look good ... - Alison 21:10, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
Yeah,it was extremely odd that the bot did that. All bots are prone to error, and it only made one. I was surprised to see it blocked for one error out of 1000. O well, it seems to be fine now. CO2 21:23, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

About Wikihermit

Wikihermit has been gone and his ser and talk pages have been deleted, but recently pointed to your talk page. Was you user name usurped to CO or something? Are you Wikihermit? --Coastergeekperson04 03:48, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

The format

You're welcome; I mess the formatting up occasionally as well, so it's not a problem. By the way, I know this has nothing to do with your original post, but I noticed your recent work with images: good job; I hope you keep it up. :) We need more people willing to tackle images. Re: Courtesy blanking

AFAIK, I've never seen an RfA be courtesy blanked. I've seen Jimbo courtesy blank AfDs, but RfAs, especially 10 minutes after its closing? Nishkid64 (talk) 01:20, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

CO, you do realise that courtesy blanking generally only applies to XfDs (hence why it has its own section on Wikipedia:Deletion policy)? ~ Sebi [talk] 01:27, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
Hardly - I know a number of RfA's and RfAr's which have been courtesy blanked. If Kelly wants it to be blanked, then she can have it blanked (I will do so, and protect it, myself), but otherwise (ie. she hasn't expressed her desire for it to be blanked) I don't see why it should be. Daniel 03:37, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Mzoli's

I dont believe it does, if you check my user page you will see what I think of rascism but for me it is an adequate description. I would more tend to the theory that those who were trying to delete the article did so because it is about a poor, black neighbourhood and they don't believe that can be notable, shame on them. Cheers, SqueakBox 22:49, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

There are poor neighbourhoods for every race. There are a number of communities that are all-black, or all-white, etc. That's reality. There's nothing racist about that. Nishkid64 (talk) 00:01, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Able to send the Signpost?

Are you able to have COBot send the Signpost this week? I'm in the process of shopping for a new computer to remedy the problems I've been having; until then, it'll be tough for me to do so. Ral315 » 00:54, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Sure, I'll send it. I have a script that I use for other wikis like wikinews and commons to deliver the signpost there. Can I use that script, or should I stick with AWB? CO2 00:58, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
You can use whatever you want, if you're sure it'll work without problems. I use AWB because it's convenient, not because it's necessarily the best tool. Ral315 » 01:06, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
Okay, cool. Thanks. CO2 01:07, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

COBot mistake

Media Matters

Thanks for your note; I knew the post I made wouldn't last long. I am simply pleased to have the issue of Sen. Clinton taking responsibily for helping MM come to life actually being discussed (as the other edits/deletions indicate).

--CharliePATpk 14:20, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

In response to your question, it had no place in that paragraph. That particular paragraph discusses Bill O'Reilly's perceived racist comments, MM's reporting on same, O'Reilly's "I've been quoted out of context" response, MM's response to that, followed by Williams's defense of O'Reilly. Why has Glenn Beck's opinion been jammed into there?-Hal Raglan 02:20, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Deliveries to User:Example

Hi, I noticed you were testing Signpost delivery on the User_talk:Example page, which is fine - but I can't tell if that last delivery was a test or an actual automated delivery. That page shouldn't be getting any automated deliveries at all, since it's not an actual active user. I just thought I'd bring it up in case you didn't know about the second delivery. As an incidental point, you may not have noticed that you misspelled "delivery" as "deliverly" in your bot's edit summary - you probably want to fix that. Thanks for reading Gavia immer (talk) 14:06, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Is there a reason for your personal attack? Carbon Monoxide 02:57, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
It's just a question as to why you can't try to reach a consensus instead of adding-in material that has been edit-warred over? GreenJoe 02:58, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
I've replied on the article's talk page. Carbon Monoxide 03:00, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

Is this a concept/early draft of an article or are you going to simply keep it in your user space? The title seems slightly biased--Phoenix 15 16:51, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

  • I concur. This is soapboxing and is not in any way article-worthy; criticising someone for not liking George Bush?! I suggest you move any reasonable sourced statements to Soros' main article. I also removed the unsourced statement which attempted to link Soros to money-laundering, per BLP.ELIMINATORJR 17:02, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
    • It's not bias, we have an article on the Criticism of Bill O'Reilly, the Criticism of President Bush, ect. JR, you're doing exactly what I want, I can't write this article by myself, I want a NPOV article. Although I can't see how this is a BLP issue. I'll just find more sources. Carbon Monoxide 20:21, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
      • I removed that section because it looks a bit too much like synthesis - 1. Soros moves HQ to Antilles 2. Antilles much used for money laundering, therefore 3.... (Hopefully you see the point). Also, I can't see how Soros' views on Bush can be used as part of a "Criticism" article. He's perfectly allowed to dislike GW if he wants to. ELIMINATORJR 20:57, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
        • I understand what you're saying. You're free to help improve it. Carbon Monoxide 21:37, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

I'm honestly not too sure about this. I would go by the notion that whatever would be included in this spinoff article would be considered acceptable material in the main article. Criticism of Bill O'Reilly was created because there was too much material, much of it bloat though, in the main bio so it was split off. (Some have made the accusation that the article was started by O'Reilly fans to hide all bad stuff about him in some obscure corner and off his main page). Starting this article with new material that was never in the main article will be considered by many a POV fork so it could get deleted or merged back to the main article. (See Criticism of Sylvia Browne). In order to justify this article there should be enough information that to put it in the main article it would overwhelm it. I don't know if there is enough material to warrant that yet but we'll see. MrMurph101 02:48, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

How do we go about merging it into the main article, while still keeping the GDFL attributions? Carbon Monoxide 02:55, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
You probably should have discussed it before doing that. MrMurph101 03:33, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
It can simply be revert if it's a major problem. Carbon Monoxide 03:34, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

People make mistakes

Dear CO,

You may have noticed that people make mistakes from time to time. Some people even completely vanish - presumably because they've made mistakes. There is no shame in that. One mistake that I may have made is turning down your barnstar. I'd felt that it probably wasn't given in good faith, but probably as a sarcastic comment. If it was given in good faith, I'd be honored if you re-instated it (but maybe a hex sign instead?!).

Also, I think what you've done with George Soros is wrong, goes against consensus and wp:blp. I'd like you to withdraw it. Think about it for 2 weeks. Consider the quality of Bill O'Reilly's reporting. If after 2 weeks you think that it is quality stuff, I'll be happy to work through it with you point-by-point.

Please do withdraw the material.

In all sincerity,

COBot and WP:SCV

Hey, there was a flurry of COBot reports at WP:SCV and now nothing. Was it a trial run? It did a really good job (aside from some PD sources that I'm sure can be whitelisted) and there wasn't much overlap (unless the other bots are filtering out already-reported pages). Thanks! -- But|seriously|folks  02:52, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for supporting my RfA, which unfortunately didn't succeed. The majority of the opposes stated that I needed more experience in the main namespace and Wikipedia namespace, so that is what I will do. If you have any other comments for me or wish to be notified when I go for another RfA, please leave them on my talk page. WikiProject Universities newsletter

Hey! Thanks for volunteering your bot for delivering WikiProject Universities' newsletter. I want this bot to do the same thing as Grafikbot. If you check out WP:MILHIST's outreach department, ours is the same. So we need newsletters delivered on the last day of every month. The bot will simply post {{subst:Wikipedia:WikiProject Universities/Outreach/Newsletter link|{{subst:CURRENTMONTHNAME}} {{subst:CURRENTYEAR}}}} ~~~~ on every participant's talk page, accompanied by a subject/header that reads "The WikiProject Universities Newsletter: Issue I (September 2007)" where the issue and month are changed every month. Some users are listed on the outreach page that prefer not to receive delivery, so they should be excluded. What do you think? —Noetic Sage 22:54, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
